Acey - glad you and the boys are okay, what a scary thing to happen!!
Very tired today.....for obvious reasons
1. Lovely friend came over last night to help me with party food preparation......we had a huge amount of alcohol and had a great laugh, finally got to bed about 4am, lol.
2. Great friends helped out at the party which went really well, DD has some fantastic little chums and the venue was great. We're going to have a fun time writing thank you cards tomorrow as everyone's presents were really thoughtful and amazing
3. DD is currently at a friend's house whilst I sit here and try to work out what I'm going to do with the leftover foods.....I always cater for the 5,000 but I hate to think of anyone going home with a hungry tummy! At least I know what I'm doing for tea tonight
4. Hoping that tomorrow's weather will be as dry as today's so I can get some washing out to dry. I guess 5:30pm is a bit late to hang things out now!!
5. Planning a nice early night with a good book, wonder how many pages I'll be able to read before needing to sleep like a log......0 -
5 for today (Saturday).
1) Thanks for all the lovely messages. No harm done, all washing done and the smoky smell has pretty much gone.
2) Had a bit of a lie in this morning and was brought breakfast in bed by bigger son!
3) Went to Ikea with boys and my mum. I always love the meals there (£1 something for the boys') and I got some cheap picture frames for school certificates and some plastic beakers. Little son bought his own ice cream (queued by himself) which is another step forward on beating the selective mutism. :-)
4) Stopped off on the way home to feed my sister's cat and found him safe and well. He had some biscuits left from yesterday so I gave him more meat and cleaned his tray out so he should be fine until she comes home tomorrow.
5) Ikea pizza about to go in the oven.
6) Listening to both sons have hysterics watching the Mr Bean film (think its Mr Bean on Holiday).
7) Looking forward to Casualty later.

Acey - glad it wasn't much more serious!
Here's mine:
1. Sunshine
2. OH going to do a job for a friend and taking the boys with him (to play with their kids) - PEACE!!!
3. Finding out a friend's husband has a large collection of chic flicks - so watching the Devil Wears Prada - taking advantage of all the blokes being out
4. Being invited out for dinner to friends tomorrow.
5. OH finding trainers for £25 instead of the £70 catalogue ones and asking to go to Brantano next week - oooh there will be some more spending than that though
6. Using the opportunity while everyone is out to empty the bins, tidy the sofa throws, tidy the front room, hoover through.
7. Finding a friend likes ryvita type things - have a box sat in the cupboard that OH no longer wants to eat so will donate them onworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Evening Everyone!
t seems like ages since I posted on here... but it's only been a week.
Just back from a fabulous week skiing with my friends. I had ski school every morning with a mad frenchman called Boris who pitched the sessions exactly right for me... really challenging but doable. We did some blacks, some off piste and some mogals which were all brilliant (except when I fell over on the off piste sections and ended up floundering in the powder!) It was topped off by him plying us with mountain liqueur before suggesting we did a few jumps... which were such an adrenaline rush. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHev_1KpKis
So my 5 for today:
1) I am so grateful for my wonderful holiday, with my wonderful friends
2) Getting home to my furbabes to find that they have been well looked after in my absence
3) Enjoying the England/ Scotland rugby match
4) Enjoying reading the latest Iain Rankin - The Complaints. I really love the way that he writes and it a nice change from the really, really dire book that I read before it.
5) Looking forward to going to the farmers market with my friend tomorrow.
Hope you are all having a fabulous weekend (and Acey - glad to hear that you and the boys are safe)
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Good afternoon all - hope you're all well.
ACEY -:eek::eek::eek: at your fire - I'm so glad you're all OK. It definitely sounds like a good idea to look into getting a fire extinguisher so, if (god forbid) anything similar happens again, you don't have to try to put it out with a measuring jug again. WD to your little son on buying his own ice cream - that's very brave of him. :T
Ollie - thanks for the Garfield smiley - how did you know I'm a big Garfield fan?
Kittikins - nice to hear you had such a lovely evening / night / morning - hope you sleep well tonight to make up for it.
Caterina - do try mango on porridge - it's lovely. It was a bit of an accidental discovery - I didn't have any other fruit to put on my porridge one morning so thought I'd try mango - but it's a real favourite of mine now.
Ladyhawk - glad you had a nice holiday. You're obviously very brave - the idea of skiing down even the gentlest slope scares me a bit, let alone going off piste and doing mogals!
My five for today:
1) Had a very long lie-in this morning. I woke up at a decent time, but it took me nearly an hour to summon up enough energy to actually move!
2) My first daffodil's out.
3) Feeling rather better than I have done for the past couple of days, so I had a mooch down to the shops. Got a few good bargains - a pair of trainers (which I really needed) reduced to £10, a pair of cat-shaped earrings reduced to £4 and with a voucher for £5 off my next purchase (now, what shall I spend that on?;):o), and a smoked mozzarella from the market, which wasn't a bargain at all but I'm pleased with as I haven't been able to find any anywhere, for any price, until now.
4) Treated myself to lunch in the museum cafe - a huge tuna sandwich with 'a crisp garnish' (which I'd call 'a bag of crisps'), a chunk of HM lemon cake, and a cup of very nice coffee, all for £4.50. :money:
5) I think I might be naughty and treat myself to a glass of wine tonight - it will just go so nicely with the slow-cooked pork that's simmering away in the oven...
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi, can I pitch in?
1. met the estate agent who sold my house and she gave me some party bags her DD was too old for - just right for my DDs easter egg hunt.
2. Gardening - first time of the year.
3. Spending day at home with DDs as not at work.
4. Making tomorrow's dinner for DDs with leftover mash and beans (cheesy potato pie)
5. Fire on instead of central heating. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Hi all
Acey, adding to everybody else's sentiment, delighted that you and your boys are ok!
Welcome onboard gratefulforhelp!
I had a difficult day at work, a general meeting, and a lot of things did not feel right, long boring story and won't bore you with the details. As a consequence, though, I have been very upset, but now I am here to find at least 5 blessings to my day:
1 - My friend and colleague drove me there. Even if she is not always the most attentive of drivers, I decided to put my worries aside because I wanted to spend some time with her. It went very well.
2 - We started the day very early and once near the venue we stopped in a cafe for a lovely (but extremely pricey - North London prices:eek:) vegetarian breakfast.
3 - The Powers That Be provided loads of very good food and refreshments. Not necessarily a good thing (I pigged out on forbidden sugar and dairy food and am paying the consequences in my tummy:() but definitely a pleasure.
4 - My friend and colleague drove me back and I had an opportunity to rant rave and cry rivers and she calmly validated my viewpoints and listened and was there for me. I really felt the need to be heard and I felt that I was. Thanks goodness for her.
5 - As I came home I started crying again and DS offered to make me a cup of tea, which I accepted gratefully!
6 - Look, I was so upset and I have still managed to find 6 pleasures including the discovery that as I write, life is not so bad after all! :j
Tired and worried that the baby woman might call me, so going to bed super-early, like, NOW!
Good night all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I'm sorry you've had such a bad day, Caterina. I hope you get a good night's sleep (preferably without a baby interrupting you!) and that things look better in the morning.Back after a very long break!0

Evening all :hello:
Woke up with a bit of a cold this morning so I've been snivelling and sneezing all day. On the bright side it's given me a reason to use up my stash of YS tissues.
ACEY - Glad to hear you and the boys are ok after your incident. It must of been quite frightening for all of you. You must be very proud of your son ordering his own ice cream
Westy - Congratulations on your son getting into uni. Which one is he going to? I did my engineering degree at Leicester
Savingforoz - Hope that date goes well for you. Come back and tell us all about itIs that Penny Puss on your avatar?
Pepsimax62 - That birthday cake sounds fabulous
Ollie - I'd love that job. All the managers at work know I want it too. I was a bit miffed when the last one that came up went to one of my colleagues - in my opinion he isn't qualified enough and doesn't have enough experience
Kittikins - Sounds like you had a great time last night. I love those sorts of evenings
Ladyhawk - Welcome back! You sound very relaxed. Glad to hear your furbabes were well looked after in your absence. No doubt they were pleased to see you
gratefulforhelp - Welcome aboard. There's always plenty more room for pleasures here :rotfl:
Caterina - Have a good nights sleep....I hope you feel better tomorrow. Well done on still finding 6 pleasures though
Right mine for today:
1) Nice long lay in
2) Getting the laundry out on the washing line
3) Deciding to walk to the shop that's closing down and seeing a thrush with a beak full of nesting material. Wouldn't have seen it if I'd hopped in the car and there aren't many around here.
4) Getting a lovely enamel baking tin at the shop. 25% off too. As I left I saw an enamel roasting tin. If it's still in the window on Monday it's mine
5) Lovely cottage pie for tea
6) Nice relaxing afternoon reading old posts on here
7) Nice glass of chilled wine
8) NCIS and CSI on tv tonight
You know I thought I'd nip into the charity shop on my walk and found out it doesn't open on Saturdays . How can they afford not to open on the busiest day?As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0
