5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Hope everyone has had a nice Mothers Day:)
Sat and Sunday
1. Getting 8 more World Book Day £1 books using the left over vouchers from my class to try to get a full set of class reading books. (Budgets are going to be none existent this year and they are talking about staff redundancies, so using my OS resourcefulness to plug a few gaps!):(
2. Bought The Hairy Bikers Mums Know best for £5 with another voucher to put away as a Xmas pressie. Went back today and got another as my Mothers Day present to me!!
3. Inviting friends for a meal. Making fish pie, and DH actually saying he liked it:) (Not usually keen).
4. Went to see 'Happy Ever Afters' at the cinema this morning. (Freebie from See Film First). Not quite 4 Weddings, but v enjoyable.
5. DS1 got me a bar of choc from his own money!!! Will share it after dinner.
Acey - OMG glad you are all back to normal after the fire incident! I did a similar thing when I was small. Set fire to my dolls pram full of torn up newspaper! Then rolled it against the living room door! Mother never lets me forget:rotfl:Anyway, thinking about the school meeting. Your little son prob doesn't have a statement, but good idea to go prepared with list of issues. I always get so involved in all the positives I forget to question the negatives. DS2 didn't have a TA all last year and really suffered. He has got one this year though;)
Night All:)0 -
Evening all! Hope you've all had a good weekend. My five for today:
1. Catching up on sleep, with eight hours last night and a nap this afternoon. I don't always get as much sleep as I should, so this was great.
2. Releasing my inner domestic goddess and making a batch of yummy hummus for lunch tomorrow.
3. Another beautiful sunny day here in Bristol.
4. Yummy homemade soup, roll and yoghurt for lunch.
5. Finally (I think!) finishing my short story. It's taken me about 3 weeks and is just over 25,000 words long. I think it's my best yet. I'm hoping that I will soon start feeling ready to write my first novel.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
House elf - I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a statement. I have asked for years what he DOES have (should he have an IEP?) but have never got a straight answer out of anyone. He was doing the Fuzzbuzz series for a while (he didn't read at all until recently) and we did loads of it over last summer holidays and it is too easy for him now. School stopped it as he kept reading it in a silly, sing-song voice and sighing! I don't know what issues to ask about, to be honest. I'll tell them about the CASBAT/autism thing but I don't know what to ask them to do or what to expect them to be doing. If that makes any sense!
5 for today!
1) Was woken up by 2 small boys carrying porridge and a cup of tea! Bigger son asked for porridge making instructions last night. I ate the porridge then looked at the clock... well, it was nearly light!
2) Had a good Sainsburys shop followed by bagels for lunch with smoked salmon (Basics trimmings) and avocado.
3) Went swimming in the afternoon with my brother and sister (and the boys).
4) Went to my mum and dad's for tea which was the home reared pork in a casserole.
5) Quite up to date with housework, washing machine is on as I type. Have also done my college homework. Little son's homework is done and bigger son has one exercise to do which he'll have to finish in the morning. He was set loads this week.
6) Got back to find a message to speak to my solicitor so I gave her a ring. She is very fired up about court on Tuesday and my barrister is also raring to go (he is my solicitor's husband). They're a formidable team and basically, nothing is going to change if they have anything to do with it! And my dad is coming with me too.
L
and 7) Going to TRY and go to bed earlier and will listen to the Archers omnibus on iplayer.0 -
ACEY - Your solicitor and barrister sound a great team. It sounds like they really care about you too. Glad to hear your dad will be there for some moral support. I'm sure you'll have a good result on Tuesday. I think everybody on here will be thinking of you too.As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0
-
Carolyntia it looks like that at the mo but it's just that they're all coming in at once. If want to see the real Queen you should read Reverbes posts, she gets free meals and allsorts
. Wish I could do half of what she does to eke out the meagre pension this government gives us but she lives in London where there are far more offers than out in the sticks here
.
1. Left home early so had a good run down to Henley to visit DM. Usual dawdle back but being Mothering Sunday it's not surprising.
2. Only used half a tank of petrol. I must be driving better because I used to use almost a whole tank
Can't think of any more, too upset that DD forgot completely, not even a phone call, and DS didn't phone til this evening to tell me he only send my card yesterday.
Night night (((everyone)))
S x0 -
oh Sparrer, your children are so naughty and forgetful, I'm upset on your behalf
How can they forget their lovely mummy. Grrrrr.....I wouldn't forget you if you were my mummy
Hope today is a better day, enjoy the sunshine x0 -
Morning everyone,
Katholicos - I hope your uncle is feeling better, thoughts are with you and your family.
Savingforoz- Glad to hear you had a good date
Caterina - Sorry to hear you were upset by your meeting, I hope you manage to resolve it and have a better day.
Ladyhawk - Welcome back from holdiay, glad to hear you had a wonderful time
My pleasures for Saturday / Sunday:
1. DD staying over at a friends house on Saturday night so OH took me out for a curry, even brought some home to have Sunday
2. Chatting with my mum on the the phone and her liking her mothers day present. She was a little bit upset as it reminds her that there is one missing but by the end of the call we were both laughing.
3. My lovely MIL cooking us sunday lunch and letting us use her shower again so at least all clean for Monday. The boilerman is coming tomorrow to fix it :j
4. Lovely danish pastry from the local bakery for breakfast
5. DD buyin me a lovley present which included a red bracelet (red is my favourite colour) from her own money.
6. More free chocolates from thorntons and still have 2 vouchers left. :T
7. Lovely cup of tea and cake in a cafe that I haven't been into before but will definetly be going to again as is was really friendly and not too expensive.
8. Still using contents of the freezer so shopping bill was half the usual weekly amount for the 2nd week running.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.
1. Really enjoyed eating out yesterday. I think because we don't do it every week........ now we are msers, it was just very special. Ds was in great form lots of chat.
2. Making my own pasta for tonights tea. Watched Rachel Allen do it a few weeks ago. Doing ravolli, with a spinach and cheese filling. Hoping it works as we eat lots of pasta, and it is another meat free meal for us.:money:
3. Don't laugh, i get emails from fooducate, a tip from one of the boards, and becauce of the number of adds to food, it encourages cooking from scratch and gives great recipes too, every little helps as they say. Latest recipe being hm toothpaste, which i've made and it's great. Ds is well impressed.:D
4. Housework up to date, thanks to fly lady. Never been so organized. Bliss.:j
5. Found a great thread on the debt free board, all about life after late 40's, will be following that......... Just love this site it really is a great hobby.:money:
Have a great day everyone,:A:A hugs to all who need them. Love BTxx
Mummy Ollie would you have a recipe for toffee cake tried searching on the site, no luck. Thanksxx0 -
Good Morning everybody  - pleasant morning so far, looks like it could be another decent day
. Going to have to try hard to catch up with your posts, but let's see how it goes .......
bunny too - your outdoor picnic for today sounds like a great idea - hope the weather is kind to you all. That fooducate site sounds good - will have a nosey at it. I don't have a recipe for Toffee Cake, but just had a google and found a couple.
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2246/starry-toffee-cake-squares
http://www.allaboutyou.com/food/Toffee-Cake-Recipe/recipe
http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/baking/cakes/hot-chocolate-cake-with-toffee-sauce-recipe_p_1.html - any of those of any use?
mineallmine - I feel the same as you do about my clutter - seems to breed in this house - and OH is a hoarder (one item out and two back in again ). I'm also a hoarder, BUT I organise mine - and he doesn't. :T on passing on your surplus vouchers to a friend - too good to go to waste.
wssla00 - lovely of your mum to pass on the blankets for your cats - they do make a difference IF you cats will lie on them. wd on your choccie win .
Tealady - what is it with men who can't show gratitude to a woman - so annoying. Not long now to getting your boiler fixed :j. wd on your using up freezer contents for the past 2 weeks :T.
Megs mum - best of luck with your sewing projects. Just thinking about your, and Tealady's, experience with ungrateful men - does it upset their macho image to say 'Thank you'?
katieclampett - that sounds like a great start to Mother's Day weekend.
Kittikins - oh dear, buffet food meals for the next couple of days :rotfl:? Hope some of it was freezeable. I bet you and your friend enjoyed your prep evening as much as DD enjoyed the. Hope your mum is soon feeling better - shame you couldn't have all been together this weekend.
ACEY - wd to your ds2 on queueing by himself :T. Good that the smell of smoke has almost cleared now. Good Luck for Tuesday - love the sound of your solicitor/barrister team. Hope all goes well for ds's review as well.
newlywed - enjoy your visit to Brantano - I love that shop as it's one of the few places where I can find a decent choice of size 9's :j.
nuttybabe - wd on your lie-in and wtg to your OH on saving £100 like that :T. what a lovely OH you've got - brekkie all round . lol at being told to NOT do laundry - do they really think that it does itself :rotfl:.
Ladyhawk - speaking as somebody who slips/falls on the least amount of ice on the pavement, all I can say is 'Very impressivethere'!'. I'm another Ian Rankin fan
. A secret visit - wonderful :j - hope it all goes to plan.
CCP - lol at Garfield - most cat-lovers are Garfield fans. Any day out that results in a new pair of earrings, is a good one in MY eyes :j. wd on clearing up your cat's 'outdoor litter tray' - Tiggy-Tiger used to 'go' behind the garden shed - and it's still a mess today even a year down the line
.
gratefulforhelp -and welcome to the thread - sounds like you had a great start to the weekend
.
Caterina - sorry to hear you had a difficult day in work -
to you. Hope the digestive system has settled back down again after all that sugar/dairy explosion.
Carolynita - hope they give you the opportunity to show them that YOU are capable AND qualified to do the job this time - smacks a little bit of discrimination if they don't let you have at least a shot at it. Could you put that to them - a 3month trial for you to PROVE to them that you can handle it? Hope you get the chance to get out for a bike ride.
miecherox -to you too - wd on getting your meat so fresh :j and wtg on getting on with your planting/growing season.
GirlySquare - I've had my hair done this weekend too - just a dry cut, but it's such an ego-boost.
katholicos - sorry to hear about your uncle -for him. Good luck with your crocheted squares.
sparrer - ooooo you've just brought back a distant memory of a little rhyme from infant school - I've just been a-google to find it. I'm sorry to hear that your ds and dd disappointed over Mother's Day - let's hope that they realise their error and make sure it never happens again - maybe a little reminder about how important it was for YOU to spend some time with YOUR mother will nudge them a little - hope so -
for you.
JennyJewell - sounds like you and your family have had a fabulous weekend for your ds's birthday and mother's day :j. Congrats on winning the tickets :T.
house elf - I hope Health&Safety can find a step-ladder for use in the classroom - you be careful, you shouldn't be climbing up like that. Good Luck with assembling your Ikea wardrobes - just don't do what we did and make a start on the BEFORE the assembly :rotfl:. wd on using up all the book vouchers and loving your Mother's Day pressie to yourself.
savingforoz - happy to hear that your date went so well - good luck with the second date. wd on finally reaching 'Le Fin' - so what's next???
Reverbe - my american cousin was recommending Julie and Julia to me on the phone yesterday - sounds like something I should watch too. wd on the trials.
Mine for the weekend -
1. Up early on Saturday morning to get some housework/laundry done ready for visit from DS2 with dgs2 and dgs3. As usual dgs3 spent most of the time in the travel cot - what would I do without it! It must have been my BEST BUY of the past couple of years. Have to admit to letting them watch cartoons for most of the time. DS2 had been playing poker the night before with his friends and had come away £50 better off. Apparently the rules state that you have to allow your opponents the opportunity to win their money back, so he arranged ANOTHER session for saturday night (can tell his dg/f was on night shift)! As they were leaving he asked if he could leave dgs3 with me again on Sunday morning as he was playing football but taking dgs2 with him - flipping men! Visit from hairdresser to 'tidy me up'.
2. Up early yet again - no Mother's Day lie-in for me ! Little visitor arrived around 9.30am - bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as he'd been up since 6.30 - poker-playing daddy had only gone to bed around 3.30 - so it'll teach him a lesson! Luckily, by 11.30 dgs3 was beginning to wilt and flaked out with a warm drink. DS2 informed that although he gave his poker buddies the chance to get their money back, they failed miserably and he won ANOTHER £50 off them :rotfl:. I did advise him that he should put a time limit to their games as he's useless the next day - all out by midnight no matter what the state of play is.
3. Baked a Cherry and Coconut Loaf for later in the day.
4. Managed to get three loads of laundry done - and most of it dried on the line - first time used it this year :j.
5. Visit from DS1 with g/f and her son - they waited for DS2 to return so they could give me a lift to DD's.
6. Rang my own mum and planned a visit to see her when she's at my brother's over Easter. Hopefully will do a trip out for a meal with her, brother and his girlfriend.
7. Felt as though I hadn't stopped all weekend - need a day off work to recover, but lots planned for today, so no chance.
Hope everybody has a good day today - best of luck to everybody with 'BIG STUFF' going on this week. speak again later - love Ollie xxx0 -
Hello Everyone!
Sorry been out of touch for the weekend again one of my housemates didn't pay for the broadband so now we've been cut off .
The board looks really busy and i will read all your posts, but i'm at work so have to be super fast.
Mine for the weekend...
1. Having a lie in on Saturday for the first time in about three weeks.
2. waking up to two days of properly nice sunny spring weather. :j
3. Going through all my drawers and having a massive declutter and finding out i can probably stretch all the shower gel, cleanser and toner I found for about 6 months
4. My sage plant has grown another couple of mm, (as have my salad plants and my lone sweet pepper plant) mmmmm summer salads here i come.
5. BF put up a projector in his attic room so its like we have our own cinema screen, or the flattest screen tv you ever saw, was fun watching In the Loop on it.
Hope everyone has a good day and the sun keeps shining0
