    Giddynmg

Tealady thanks for the maps idea. It led me on to finding all kinds of other mapping tools. Very useful.

VJsmum, sorry about DD's no. May the next one be a yes!

Frith, the young apprentice stuff sounds fantastic.

Bit of a disaster tonight. Fell asleep in the chair :o so another quick five pleasures for Tuesday then bed!

    1. Bit of time lying in bed this morning reading before I got up.

    2. Got my 'I'll only help in the kitchen if I absolutely have to' DS2 to agree to the idea of starting to do some regular cooking if he gets to experiment with things like cakes, puddings and biscuits (which he will eat and eat and eat, and probably needs to eat and eat and eat 'cos he's so thin.) I think it might solve the problem of never seeming to have enough in the house. :D

    3. Had to go for a walk after dark and before the rain came but got my steps in for today. mhagster, it's fantastic about having a job that gets you moving. When I'm having a sedentary day at home it's terribly easy to do under 2000 steps all day. Hope the job goes well.

    4. Huge mushrooms in veggie delivery today so had one with scrambled egg on top for my supper. A treat.

    5. Clean sheets on bed and hottie made to go with it.

    Sweet dreams

Coo sounds excellently mse mhags on the left over food
Enjoy soch aye all street bop and & you up in the land of the deep fried mars bar too
    Commiserations for your dd vjsmum
Have you had your b12 levels checked sparrer? That leads to anaemia
    1) hotel had booked me a premium taxi to the airport. Twice the price of a budget but oh so nice. Fortunately a) uni paying and b) actually everything's so cheap in malaysia cmpf uk prices this is the time to go for luxury!
    2) morning breakfast tea in harrods tea room at KL airport (as for 1 re pricing but had snaffled muffin from hotel breakfast room so overall was mse)
    3) colleague there to meet me at airport. My it's hot and humid in sri lanka, and this apparently is the better month to visit. Fantastic drive to the med school. We stopped off at mcd's (lol) where i had the mclocal - a very nice chicken and spicy rice
    4) then on to his house in a village. Stopped for fresh pineapple on the way, peeled and chopped by the stall owner. One road was just pineapple stall after pineapple stall. It was scrummy and didnt give me the acid burns fresh pineapple in the UK does
    5) had a small nap then played monopoly with host's 9-year old. I'd brought over the dundee version. Then a meal out at a restaurant - fried chicken rice and a bread whose name escapes me. Oh and a ginger beer :P
    6) slept with fan on. It's one of those huge ceiling ones. Woken at 3 by dogs barking, caught up on corrie (soooooo sad) and went back to sleep. It's now 8 so best get home, have some breakfast (rice-based) and go through talk. May be anything between 10 and 50 at the lecture. Have been asked what i want to do with my 4 days' holiday - so far beach and tea plantation :-)

Lost a big post (and worryingly, an email on a completely different system (geeeemail) has gone as well!).

Hugs to poorlies, love to all - and DD I want to come on your next trip, you're going to places I've always wanted to visit!

    Anyway, pleasures.....

    1. The NHS

    2. A lovely tutor at uni who met with me and a couple of others who want to do our big assignments on languages - she was so passionate and interested in what we want to write about, and we came away with folders of resources and weblinks.

    3. Great day at uni yesterday.

    4. The nice PE teacher who let me go home early when I had what I thought was going to be a migraine on Monday afternoon :)

    5. Filling my car up cost slightly less than I thought it would - every penny helps, especially when you're waiting for your student loan to go in!!

    6. Sat in the 24-hour party room (aka computer room) last night and tried, unsuccessfully, to print some research, but had a very nice chat with a complete stranger! (He turned out to be a student, but not a teaching one, hence being completely strange, lol).

    7. Went to a very inspiring lecture on maths last night with a few people from my group. It's made me reassess ways to approach teaching maths to children :)

I had such a good sleep last night, much needed after feeling ill with tiredness and the remnants of my headache yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting lots done today.

Not sure what's going on but can't thank your posts but I have read them and as usual appreciate them.

Wednesday evening here, sun shining with a gentle breeze which is pleasant....we are climbing back up in temperature from tomorrow though....:(

So tired last night and fell asleep and then was wakened by my husband phoning me and then some silly person sent a text at 11.10pm about a school book for sale....sent them a reply at 6.20am, then they replied later to say they'd got a copy....then I sent them a text meant for my husband!....it was one of those slow motion moments....toooooo laaaaate to stop it going! Then sent an oops sorry text!

Work was good, early start but just a half day today.

Good drive in and back home again.

Got my eyebrows waxed...ouch I said, oh they're hairy she said!

Someone has just picked up a couple of school books so that's an extra $20 in the coffers, school goes back end of next week so we will either have a flurry of panic stricken parents or they won't sell.

Made big 2 omelettes with bacon and cheese for tea.

Nos 6 and 7 tomatoes are in the fridge.

DD2 has been gutting her room...wish her sister would be as inspired ( shakes head in dismay)

So that was my day, nice to be at work but nice to enjoy time at home too.now going to watch final episode of wartime farm and iron the black clothing for work....can you tell black is so not my colour :)

    Have a wonderful Wednesday :)

    Morning

    Pleasures for yesterday,
    1. In work early which just as well because if it could go wrong it did but we managed to patch together a fix so brownie points for me.
    2. Last of the HM butternut squash soup for lunch with some HM bread
    3. NSD as so busy at work did not get to step outside the door.
    4. Enjoyed the walk home from work, nice to get some fresh air after being indoors all day.
    5. DD doing really well in mock maths exam, she has come on so far this year with learning it is a joy to see her confidence in doing things.

Hugs to all who need them

    Morning all

Thanks for DD commiserations - she is ok about it now. Her drama teacher said not to be too downhearted as many schools take few students at 18 - they like them to have a bit of experience behind them. If she doesn't get in this year, she will stay home for the year and try again next year. Whilst this is frustrating for her, we get to keep her a little longer :) and, as she has just qualified as a swimming teacher as well as being a lifeguard, I think she will get some employment. I would like to see her do a "gap" something - a few months, if not a year. Anyhow, we have another 7 auditions to get through yet!

Oh, DD, I am envious when I have no right to be. I loved Sri Lanka - one day I will return with OH and maybe DS.. The market stalls along Galle Face do wonderful fresh pineapple. It is so refreshing. On my last day, just over a year ago, I had been to Kandy for the day but then walked along Galle Face, had fresh pineapple and watched the sun go down - knowing I was coming back to snow  and a drop in temperature of 40 degrees :eek:
CCP - f0ghorns remind me of home - we don't get much of that sound here in the Midlands :rotfl: Especially at Midnight on NYE when they would go hell for leather
Frith - exciting about paying off the mortgage, and also about DS joining the railway volunteers. It's such a great thing for them to do. My DS wants us to move to Bewdley so he can volunteer on the Severn Valley Railway. Love the tiles - I was taken by "Waterloo" - am also thrilled that you wrote "these are they". My Grammar Police mother would have been :T
LFS - gosh, 10 weeks. Pasties sound - erm, interesting :D

Chicken - nice free frugal book? My favourite kind! Linky?
DDS - Always good to have a meal to hand.
Dfor V - I am now officially the short ar*e in our family - and I am 5'7, so not really! DS (nearly 15) is now 5'11  DD is 5'9
Giddy - ooh can you do squaddie parcels now? I thought it was a Christmas thing - I must look into it
Catarina- how do you become a professional storyteller? it's not your usual "doctor, lawyer, teacher" ambition
PK - sorry you are having a horrid time at work
Sparrer - look after yourself, you sound like you are very rundown
Broomstick - I am trying to get DS to cook also. He made a couple of Victoria sponges a few weeks ago - was v. proud of himself. As well as a couple of "main" dishes. Must get onto it again.
Kittikins - My DS was pants at maths, and then we got him on to a scheme where he goes to a tutor once a week and then has to do 10 minutes a day the rest of the week. (a bit like Kumon, but not) The difference is incredible - he will do it, cos it's only 10 minutes, and after more than 2 years we are hopeful of a solid B at GCSE, if not higher. At one point we weren't sure he would manage a C
Mhags - Glad you've had a few days to cool down, and that work seems OK.

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. Good teaching - plan went slightly awry, but it meant I could finish early rather than give them a big break in the middle.
    2. Went to visit new house - unfortunately it does all need painting, but we think we'll get a man in and offset it against the rent we will gain earlier than if we do it ourselves (if that makes sense - it will take us a month or two to paint the whole house, whereas the cost of getting a man in will be the same as or less than, 2 months rent). I liked it still, though - although they had left the kitchen filthy :(
    3. DS parents' evening - glowing reports from teachers :T they say he gets on with work, doesn't cause them any bother, and is set for a bunch of solid B's and maybe a couple of A's. This is the child who we worried ourselves sick about not being able to learn, thought he would struggle to get any A - C GCSEs. So proud of him - especially that his attitude is so good (particularly as we get a lot of "Kevin" style grunting).
    4. OH and I have almost finished new wardrobe - put the doors on ("Your only s'posed to put the bloody doors on" :D) with minimal swearing on his part - and none on mine! Just door handles and a wire basket "thing" to go.
    5. Cleaner came :T

Have a lovely day all - I am actually having a day off from work and marking and all. Might do wire basket "thing", build DD's bookcase and a bedside table - while watching Call the Midwife and Musketeers. I am hoping for a few hours with the sewing machine, quilting. Might update the home page too.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • I take it that our & has found the Shopping Street in GasGa, enjoyed the French whine and saw a Rugby game! Was there years past, but went under Paddy’s Umbrella. Caught the train south one Sunday afternoon.
Isis is back, with sweetcorn and tuna, Laptops with no charge, and posts sooner! Burping, for England, that be BoP’s way of life
You lot, carry on no trouble and strife. Daleks on Call, celebrations for all? Hens, sun and runs. Dippy egg time, ior just claw sandwich (Still no Toasted Fox!) DingDong, that was a Snorker Sandwich on this thread, get the jingo dear.
DfV, planting for us all, enjoys same, films on box, but come on gals, clear soups are for the Frogs, &. Not us. We want real body! Squadiie box. Remember the cakes Mums used to bake, and back in the lawyers hall, of the barrack block after a break. Cauliflower fritters, use Spam my dear, far tastier! Banan loaves, with kidney bins! Sparra. Marmite! Napping in chairs! Is Singapore Lil back yet? Mhags in the Sun, others seeing steam

Well, I do not nose how difficult it has been dragging my body this far, but I have made it to here. May have been rebuilt every 6 years or so, but tick tock on. So Jenny, :heartpuls :heartpuls, see there she goes, has a open PM to Sparra. Eat yers Cheese, MARMITE and Onion sandwiches. Gis you a boost of B12 Got It. No more messing eh!At least we hope it is not a day of Shingles?

And the rest of yous, enjoy your day.

5 No Scrabble last nite, ham egg and chips instead. Washed down with wobbleade and chuckles with BoPsie. Hic, burp and a lay in as well. Raffles was absent, obviously missed his feeding time so went to get his own. Always his bowls are clean. Today he is on COD!

4 Double OLAF day, that is Out Lived Another. I nose, but yet another one I see has been burnt out by thirty. Waste. Good that Big Sis, though coerced by mum BoP to go to University, was made of sterner stuff and … Well elder nieces did not venture into that system, and now aged 22, aor there abouts, has only a few exams to go before fully qualified as an accountant. With nearly 6 years of experience as well. No degree can do that. As for the one at work, too educated to …

3 Should not take pity though, still, play the songs in the sunset as we go home again.

2 nite thinks me and Ms BoPsie will have that game of Cribbage. 15 for 5! 19 in the box as well.

1 Ashes and Diamonds. See Mr Waters, of ‘Are there any paranoids in the audience tonight?” is in the landing zone today. Still got his hair, so is in with the BoP club of small partings. Yes, reached the age, where if I see a coot, I call it a coot! Apologies to the coots!
  • Frith - glad you are feeling better. Beets and beetroot juice are supposed to be good for indigestion

    Sparrer - get well now!

VJsmum sorry to hear about DD audition, fingers crossed for the next one
