5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Afternoon all. Thought I'd post mine now as I may not switch my home pooter on this evening.
The last two for yesterday:
4) Isis apparently fully recovered from the weekend's unwellness and doing a passable Simon's Cat impression to convince me of the merits of feeding her.
5) Finding an episode of one of my favourite archaeology TV programmes lurking on iplayer to watch in the evening.
And for today:
1) Waking up to the sound of foghorns, a noise that always makes me smile - although my smile faded a bit when I opened the curtains and saw just how thick the fog was.
2) I ran out of coffee at work this afternoon (:eek::eek:) but a colleague very kindly let me have a cup from her coffee machine. :T
3) Rather than asking for reduced rent I decided to ask my LL to hire a dehumidifier for me, to dry out my soggy flat (the carpet is still damp to the touch nearly a week after its last soaking) and, much to my surprise, he's promised to see what he can do.
4) Took a packed lunch - LO tuna pasta - to work for the first time in ages.
5) Pub quiz tonight - it's our annual team meal on Friday so we could do with winning a bit more money to add to the kitty.
On the negative side, my sister is still in hospital - they've changed her meds and the difference gave her a migraine, which unfortunately she is rather prone to anyway. Fingers crossed she will be out tomorrow, or by the end of the week at the latest.
mhagster - glad your first day in your new job went well. That pumpkin salad sounds .
ampersand - glad you had a good trip away. The Thing sounds quite intriguing!
VickyA - I love love love that hwb cover.Shame I'm very allergic to wool and could never have one, really.
Have a good afternoon / evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
The laptop won't charge whilst in use so updating now before it goes flat!
CCP - You have no idea how exotic it sounds when you say you can hear foghorns!
Busy day chez Frith....
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) A bit better! Still burping for England but can walk about normally now.
3) Sons OK at school.
4) Pilates! Turns out 2 ladies there (I recognised vaguely) used to live next door to my sister.
5) Popped to see brother. Mum and Dad are at the WI college (Denham?) doing Scottish dancing til Thursday so he is on his own. I helped him load the tractor twice with firewood.
6) Dropped some stuff off of Mum's at the charity shop (she did ask before she left!)
7) Very exciting endowment policy pay in to my account means tomorrow I can (drum roll) pay off my second mortgage that covered the cost of my divorce - hoorah! This will free up some money each month.
8) Ordered a new shower from Ebay for the new bathroom.
9) Found fantastically cheap tiles online so have ordered samples. Going for an underground station type feel with white and perhaps a band of colour. Bit 1930's. These are they: http://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/range/wall-tiles/metro-brick-200/ I would have the White Chapel (white!) and perhaps a band of Green Park.
10) Cooked beetroot yesterday and thought I was defrosting cherries. Turns out it was a bag of braised red cabbage! So I have just pickled the beetroot.
11) Fire lit. Haven't been able to lean over to do it for over a week. :-/
12) Other good news is the application form is filled in ready to post for smaller son to join the Young Apprentice section of our steam railway. :-) The newsletter they put in with the form looks ace with "engine cleaning" Saturdays and footplate riders.
13) Looking forward to Holby later.
14) And TA says I haven't got to do anything about the renewal of smaller son's statement of SEN. Thank goodness. I don't know who writes the letters accompanying all the forms but they don't make any sense.0 -
Giddynmg - helloooo and welcome:D Mam's are great for a laugh! I know mine is!
1. Mommy lady called...her phone went strange (NSA listening in I think!) and she sounded like a darlek..me shouting 'mommy you've turned into a darlek'.."gnnI'llnn caggnnll tonnggmorrownngg"
2. Leftover pasties for tea..they can play spot the meat!! Honest it's not all mashed potato!:D (ok so it's leftover shepherds pie..the veg from last nights pot roast, a little beef brisket and mash! It made 8!)
3. OH is peeling potatoes for tea:) Too much standing makin pasties!
4. Leftover gravy from pot roast:) Will make pasties taste more meaty!(and they need all the help they can get!)
5. Did half an hours work:) 10 weeks tomorrow!

5 for today
1. Work ok. Colleague getting some grief from senior bods in other departments asking her to do their job. Had a meeting about it , line manager needs to support her, watch her back and put them straight .I would.
2.Hens enjoying the sun in their new run (which rhymes) according to DM and again) and were still out when I got back from work.
3.Found a leek (not of the CCP kind) in the fridge which has been there since before Christmas , so made leek and cheese sauce to go on top of jacket p's . Used a packet sauce and added extra cheese , wonder if OH will notice ?
4.Not been food shopping for nearly two weeks (apart from Li*l ham and olive oil last week). Using up stuff is satisfying
5.Found a nice free frugal book for the kindle one of my fave bloggers is the author
Have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
1) Enjoyed a sausage sarnie with my son before school.
2) My whole class did a sentence writing job today! Yep, all called and written in 1 day! (No small task for a reception class in January).
3) Made tomorrow night's dinner when we made tonights so I don't have to cook after my staff meeting (lasagne/pepper/chips tonight and bolognese left for tomorrow).
4) Came home and enjoyed some game time with my son.
5) Snuggled in pjs already...bliss!0 -
Chickenopolis - I have "cranky" 5/2 colleagues too. Me, I'd rather eat smart than 'starve' 2/7, even though it does mean less! Hurrah for the no-longer-open-plan garden. (Our garden's a state - Himself is talking of sorting the fence & borrowing pigs as ambulatory rotavators.) Love how you keep tabs on office politics & back up folk when needed! Hens enjoying fox-proof palace?! Strong cheese & he'll never realise there's leek (no matter how vintage) in there! Superb kitchen surprise cooking there!
CCP - good to hear you're getting the dumplings in. With you on delighting in suddenly noticed beautiful architecture! Out of Coffee?! Foghorn the very minimum response! Hope Landlord sorts dehumidifier (& rent rebate!) pronto. Holding your sister in my thoughts. Could you knit strips of fleece? or would that not be sheepish enough?
Broomstick - well done getting all these strides & smiles in! Mnnn, rosemary roasties!
sparrer - argh - getting all ready for Godot only to be told this time next week. So impressed with the poundland gardening successes & the lamb-in-field soups ounds sensational!
ampersand - delighted to hear you keeping the Auld Alliance properly tended & Hurrah for The Thing, which sounds utterly sensational, and should inspire storytellers! All the best with pressure week. That link is to a Mirror? But oh yours sounds such fun! Delighted to hear surgeon & secretary are cooperative.
Frith - whilst your sofa of course appreciates the company, is it not yet time to see your medics? +1 for peppermint tea! Scottish country dancing parents?! It's all in the elbow grip... Paying off divorce mortgage - HURRAH! Love Underground feel bathroom idea! Forsee heavy usage if smaller son becomes a Young Apprentice. (Local steaming station uses amount of mess as approximate guide to how good a time had...)
VickyA - love the herdy pattern! Have both jacob & blueface to spin, but aware of my limitiations!
Purple kitten - glad sol is starting up & hope that isn't too painful. Aunts on phone are a delight. (Mine are mostly hardcore letter writers, but the other side ring!)
Caterina - HURRAH for good dream & scan outcomes! Dead right to feel happier with that load of anxiety neatly placed in the bin.
Giddynmg - welcome! There are people who call apple names (& when faced with an iTunes glitch, I'm one) but FaceTime is a special treat. Well done being on top of healthy eating & housework too!
DD - Enjoy every minute - and every sip of that Strongbow! All this travel is both great fun & exhausting - lovely to be part of it through you!
mhagster - I really hope your boss not only pays promptly but appreciates you! "that's really all" - I'm feeling limp just reading it!
Tealady - what a wonderful bit of timing that greatgrandchild will arrive in a usually tricky month & how thoughtful of you to sort a book for her kindle! A good read is a precious gift! Brilliant thinking re: peppermint tea - we drank it at the Lebanese restaurant & it certainly helped us to eat loads more than we might ordinarily have done!
BoP - you gastronome extraordinaire, gluten free as well, or just for porridge? All the best at Scrabble!
VJsmum - monster post compiled over time in notepad as MSE wibbles So Frustrating! Good to hear Portmerion memories include excellent food! Another chunk of pension sorted & awaiting painting? Excellent! There's PE Homework?! Ouch on audition 'no' but you have to learn the relevant coping strategies & (within reason) the younger the better.
lovefullshelves - intriguing phone calls always fun but too much pasty making leads to needing rest! Steady as you go - two weeks will be extended if you go daft & overdo.
dingdongsaving - sausage sarnies are a real delight! Game time & in PJs? Excellent scheming - must try that!
OS Pleasures
Day flexi! (OK to shuffle folks around hospital appointments but more reliable than public transport for inter hospital shuttle.)
Satnav sort of working! (In car power fuse sorted.) So glad it's live again as navigation not one of my specialist subjects!
Composing peeved email to garage as billed for coolant which wasn't noticeably present. Overheating engine not pretty.
I enjoy the way the car joggles when the lads join in with "the boys are back in town"...
Unexpected pleasure - all medical appointments running on time & all receptionists/ nurses smiling!
Bonus Yellow stuff
Additional bonus - several films lined up to go onto iPad for when have to "prepare". Husband making positive noises about consommee, but have bovril & veg bouillon powder on standby!
Further additional bonus - eldest measured at 5'8" & happily hogging the phone telling relatives! (Now "Much Taller!" than me.)
Big hugs to all who need them, in so far as you are able Enjoy What You Are Doing & all the best with Wednesday!0 -
Thank you very much everyone for the warm welcome.
Pleasures for today:
1 - Getting up early and making the most of the morning.
2 - Spending time with my mam as it was my day off. Went down to meet her, had a wander around the shops and then went back to my parents house for lunch.
3 - Getting bits and pieces together for a care parcel for a squaddie. Haven't sent one since before Christmas so it will be nice to get that sent off in the next few days.
4 - Nice relaxed evening on the sofa.
5 - Heading to bed early. I'm going to do a few bits around the house, get my stuff ready for the morning and then head off to bed to finish my book.0 -
Good evening
A quick one as very tired and ready to sleep.
1. DD visited this morning.
2. Talked to DD's friend about storytelling for her dissertation (I used to be a professional storyteller)
3. Helped another friend to sort out her tax
4. Afternoon with DS writing application for job and planning a small art project he has in mind
5. Cooked lovely feta and cauliflower fritters using leftovers, instead of having a takeaway as originally planned.
Good night all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Sorry it's a little bit short but I got back, popped out then had to work again this evening because of numpty features, I'm not going to be able to do it much more, but ignoring that:
1. Applied for some great looking jobs.
2. Shopping was only £19 but timed it badly there wasn't a lot of anything where and no rtc's (sorry chick)
3. Watching furry vengeance always have an eye out for the weasel of course.
4.Washing is up to date
5. Half price trainers arrived for DH and I, they are so comfortable, I know not fashionable but my feet don't mind.0 -
Another one ready for her bed, so in brief...
1. made a banana loaf and some scones
2. soaked a pack of kidney beans and another of salad beans overnight, all cooked/frozen this morning so there's plenty to last several months
3. nsd/npd
4. saw the GP last night, still anaemic, still got labrynthitis, still no results from the biopsies so he's going to chase those up.
5. Some friends of DGD2, two who are doing hair and beauty and another who's doing photography, made her up and did her very long, thick wavy hair then took photos of her which are amazing - in truth I didn't even recognise her at first! (Needless to say she's amazing anyway). Couldn't think who she reminded me of then saw the photo of my grandmother on my sideboard taken when she was a young woman, and they're identical. DGD2's friends now have to sketch her from the photograph as part of their course work, it'll be interesting to see the result.
Sweet dreams0
