    Evening everyone.

    'One of those days'.

    1. The pleasure for today is that it's nearly over and I'm going to bed (and that is a genuine pleasure :))

    Sweet dreams

Very much enjoyed reading through so many pleasures.

    1. Lovely spicy lentil soup from the soup maker, which arrived safely on Saturday. It was out of the top drawer, great stuff. The soup maker is also a really efficient blender. I have a stick blender and my Jamie O. food processor but I had an ancient 2nd hand Kenwood goblet blender when Dr C was a baby, and for years afterwards, which was so useful.

    2. Cycled down to get my Mirror A!di vouchers x 2. It was bitterly cold with a strong wind and my joints were aching (turmeric notwithstanding). Dr C. agreed to take me straight after work....

    3. ....Which Dr C duly did. He came round the store with me and it probably added £25 to the bill, but none of it was silly or wasteful purchases. Apart from my ginger wine and dark chocolate ginger biscuits. Ginger wine was reduced.

    4. Enjoying my latest free books from Am@zon Vine and free beauty bits too - gave myself another lovely pedicure this morning. Bliss.

    5. Great night at the live music club, I've uploaded videos to our FB group and lots of people have viewed them and made appreciative comments. When I first started doing this hardly anyone took any notice, I felt flattered if I got 8 views and 2 likes from 120 members. Now I've got the membership up to 204 and get around 35 views of each video, which is far more like it.

    6. Angrove Rumbaba entered his first show since retiring from racing on Sunday, being shown in hand, rather than ridden. He won 2 classes and was Reserve Champion. I foresee a bright future for him as a show horse, particularly in ex-racehorse classes. He looked gorgeous.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Thank you all but I'm really not a chocolate lover - I realise that's not a 'normal' statement for a woman but not only do I not have a sweet tooth, it makes me cough! Must say though that mcculloch's dark choc ginger biscuits sound rather lish. Re Marmite/Vegemite I really do prefer the latter which is also rich in Vit B so will stick to that - sorry BoP if I'm letting the side down. There are lots of iron rich foods in my cupboard now so it can only get better :). No worries Ampersand I'll get to NZ next year, I'm raring to go.

    1. Heard the mobile ringing but couldn't find it anywhere so rang from the home phone and traced the ring. Found it down the back of the chest next to the bed, so managed to pull the chest out enough to vac behind it. Found a ring and a pedometer back there plus a paperback I lost months ago!
    2. Lovely lunch of my version of Scotch broth with broccoli and some of the new potatoes and runner beans I bought ys yesterday
    3. nsd/npd
    4. Where was the forecast rain? The yellow thing was certainly showing itself here for most of the day :)
    5. Watched a bit of Weight Loss Ward, makes me feel pretty good about myself!

    Sweet dreams :)

Too hot too cold this thread's like a virtual game of hide n seek. I'm most defo in the too hot brigade and struggled yesterday, but to be fair i think i would have in 'normal' weather as woke at 4:30 (due to moving 2.5 hours west i guess) with no pause for a siesta. Paid for it this morning (read on mcduff)
    1) left house at 6am for colombo to miss the worst of the traffic but still the jams were spread more liberally across the road than marmit would have been
    2) stopped off for breakfast which was nice but the tea had sugar in. Not to my taste and cos my host very generously wants me to try different things had twice what i should have
    3) arrived at the uni in good time. My host was giving first lecture at 9, tea break 10:30 then me till 1 so had plenty of time in separate room to tweak my talk having llearnt a bit more about the audience
    4) gave talk but my goodness they didnt like interacting, so moved to a pretty much didactic mode. Only one of them momentsrily dozed off and by then they'd had a long morning and the temp was climbing despite the air con. In retrospect although i talked to the topic given (the hope and scopes of elearning) i think they needed a bit more how to and something i've already delivered back home would have been better.
    5) went for a cup of tea (not sweet hooray) then shopping then lunch
    6) went for drive round colombo including a museum about independence (not air con) and a 'village' living museum (all in the open so also no air con). Very interedting but totally overheated
    7) Went to the beach - lovely and my first tropical beach. We promenaded then promenaded back then supper at the lighthouse restaurant. First mouthful told me my stomach had shut down in protest to the heat :-( so didnt feel too good after that. Had to ask for the car to be stopped on one occassion as i thought i was going to be sick. Traffic awful and i was shattered. Got home 11 and secreted a plastic bowl up to my room which was just as well cos 5:15am supper returned. But then slept on till 10 bliss. Just off for a shower but still feeling a bit fragile and so hot. My friend's house is beautiful but has no air con. How do you cope with the heat mhags!

I just don't cope with the heat DD at all! Last week was just unbearable and we have similar temps coming up from Sunday. If I have to be thankful it's that we live in Melbourne where we are more temperate and have defined seasons ( often in the one day ) other parts of Australia are hot 3/4 of the year. You still have to live/ work/ shop/ housework / try and sleep ....we don't all head to the beach! When we were getting ready to move here , people expressed lots of "you're so luckys" but by this time we'd already been out twice and I knew life wouldn't be spent in holiday mode and at the beach everyday. We are lucky and I am grateful that because of OHs work we as a family have had the opportunity to move here and share the experiences that we have together but we had to leave all our family/ friends/ pets/ everything we have ever known.

Anyway.... A day off but woken up by Ohs alarm clock going off at silly o'clock ..as he'd forgotten to change the time.

Phoned my MIL, my mum and then a good long chat with my friend from home.

It was raining....we have not had proper rain in ages. Everything is so dry. The grass is the colour of straw, our water butts are empty. The trees think it's autumn and losing their leaves, the driveway and path at back door are covered in leaves. I swept yesterday , DD 2 swept yesterday and then today it's covered again! So the rain was very welcome and has brought some lovely fresh air. When it's hot the heat builds up and up within the house as the day goes on. You will know what it's like in UK when it's a hot day and at night the heat has built up and you struggle to sleep....add on 15-20o for here! So fresh air through the house has been very welcome today. So the gardens , grass and veggie patch has had a sustained drink of water today which has been very welcome .

DD2 and I went into next town for a few bits and bobs. School jotters purchased and all set for back to school next week. Bought fruit and veg in aldi and then did main shop in Woolies. A few things bought on special and I managed to get sausages for 10% of original price....so 90% off!! Think this may have been a mistake as I've never known such reductions ....but I bought 2 packs and have divided them up and into the freezer.

Made a spicy pumpkin and lentil soup which I need to blend then portion up for the freezer.

Bought phone top ups (10% off when using store loyalty card) for kids....so hoovering done, groceries away, dishwasher emptied, bins emptied ...thanks kids!!

Have started watching the Edwardian farm series so I ironed whilst watching that.

Another $50 made from book sales today :)

Filled my car up with petrol today....first time since November ...so that's not bad! Was only using my car once a week to do grocery shop when I wasn't working so had hardly used any. Petrol is expensive at the moment ( we vary dramatically in price often dropping/ rising by 20c/l in a day) but managed to get it a decent enough price....10c cheaper than yesterday .

CCP hope your sister continues to improve and she gets home soon.
DD enjoy the rest of your time away. Drink lots of water and moan ....that's what I do!

Have a fabulously thrifty Friday :)
