Still using phone!
1) a lie in
2) had a tweet from tom Watson mp about bigger son's houses of parliament homework.
3) soup for lunch
4) tidied bookcase so old Thomas thr tank books can be replaced by Anthony horowitz. Not enough room to keep everything. :-(
5) bigger son tidied the toy boxes out and I washed the dusty corrugated lids in the bath
6) fish and chips from the bus for tea
7) casualty!
8) bigger son ok now...... came downstairs to find him fainted on the living room floor. He'd modified his catapult and fired a skewer through his thumb. In the top, through 3cm of thumb then out the other side. :-S no bleeding but will look impressive for school on Monday.0 -
Evening
PK - Hugs
DFV - Hope you are not feeling too uncomfortable today and enjoyed your haggis
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Porridge with apples and blueberries for breakfast
2. Productive meeting at work and managed to park a project which I thought was a waste of time. Hoping it stays parked.
3. Managed to get mum some vintage knitting patterns (Scotch Wool Shop) she wanted off the internet and the price was very reasonable plus the advantage of a happy mummy.
3. Read an interesting blog on a family that have decided to live a year of thrift. http://ahiveofactivity.blogspot.co.uk/
4. Quick and easy chowmein for dinner as had done some of the preparation before work.
5. Roof is now fixed, thank goodness. No longer worrying when we have rain and wind that we will be having an indoor rain storm or losing more tile. They did turn up rather early though and nearly got more than they bargained for as went past the windows on the ladders but luckily I had seem them coming and got dressed a touch rapidly.
6. £35 into the sealed savings pot which is grocery underspend for the month.
Pleasures for today,
1. Food shopping done and well under budget again plus made full use of the Aldi vouchers.
2. Bacon sandwich when home from shopping
3. Little snooze this afternoon, storm woke me up
4. Gourmet dinner of fishfingers, chips and beans
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Wow, that's some saving bouncydog!!
Blimey Master Frith, that's some injury! Hope it doesn't hurt much and you don't cause your mum any more heart attacks this weekend!!
1. Brilliant science club with DD this morning - we learned a lot, and I have a fun experiment in my bag of tricks to use with a class, hopefully on my next placement!
2. Lovely coffee and chat with the staff at a swanky caf! where DD and I stopped before the science club. They're both students at my uni!
3. Yummy lunch afterwards....not a MS day at all today!
4. Mummykin's birthday, so DD and I decided to help her celebrate in style
5. We all watched the Mr Deppp Lone Ranger DVD and loved it, especially daddykins and DD, who laughed like drains0 -
Quick one as nearly midnight!
1. Passed on bootcamp and had a lie-in, the first in a long time
2. Clearance jumble sale, gor a lovely pic frame for DS for £1
3. Friends back at mine to have tea after jumble sale
4. Cooked vegetarian Burns Night dinner for family and friends
5. The evening went really well, everybody loved the vege haggis (thanks to recipe from Elaine of Mortgage Free in Three) and the pudding my friend contributed (Caledonian Creams and shortbreads) was gorgeous.
Good night xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
One real grump before pleasures - beeb have mucked about with radio access. Can't now just hit one button to see what's on/upcoming simultaneously across the range.
1. No eggs from our Vic's chicks atm, so back to Mick's instead. His lady L brought a box out to me - 'This one's too big for the lid to close' she said and it's true. This egg is a tad over 7cms long!
2. Went into Church on way out. Needed quiet moment. Wasn't alone. A chap was there with loads of photography wotnot, near one of the great interior tombs. Interesting - works for Yale University Press, updating/adding pics for Pevsner via English Heritage, as here:
http://yalebooks.co.uk/pevsner.asp
3. Left note on prayer board after Friday's visit.
4. Village jumble sale - several purple clothes, all in silk and wool. In washing machine as we speak. A few more No More Books.
5. To Mr T with 'Please help' re: new phone. The Storm hit as I left distant car[deliberate, always, for farthest walk]to entrance. Sheet and forked lightning, dramatic and crazy, huge hail, wild wind, fold-up signs and trolleys tipping, scudding, clattering, racing everywhere. Phone shop N. spent nearly an hour fixing, missing his break. It transpired that the things I was told had been done had not been done. I'm always prepared to think it's me, but it wasn't. Dear N also managed to ship all my pics from old phone to new, which I had been told was impossible.
5. Found a way to see Canal+ diffusing Toulon vs Brive hier soir. 'Twere better not. Where was Toulon? Brive blasted off like rockets and their Gaetan Germain[lovely name] was a Wilkinson through and through. Double figure penalties gifted by Toulon. 23-10 to my other midi lump of France.
6. So, Rafa's soon to start victory[I will say it]will be a tonic.
Stay warm and snug and safe. This time last week was Blochairn hunt and gather.
pk - comfort hugs through your hurt and may that decent job come soon. Mhags has passed that lucky baton on to you.
Frith Son the Elder - AAAGGHHH! My insides did salt-on-snail to read about your thumb. Crikey! Good h/w response news.
Right, back to re-zap chamomile tea before tennis on Australia Day, but I see it's a comfy 28 chez moi way further south.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Really having a mare of a kitchen disaster weekend. Today, I managed to unplate the spagYETTI on toast.
BoPsie has remarked that I have often said that should I err too much, she is to ring the Vetinary and request he brings his gun. I thinks she is on the phone, requesting a drive by on Sunday!0 -
Holy Moly hot weather ...it's Australia Day ! Tennis is on ampersand! But we are not in the city watching it this year as Andy's oot!
So work was fine, I managed !
Finished an hour earlier which was very welcome and was paid which was even more welcome.
Glad rags on and Velcro rollers in! Sat out in sun for a wee while to dry my hair but it was too hot.
We were invited to associates of OHs through work, to their house for tea. They all discovered after working with each other for 7 years that we live very locally to them. They are Chinese and put on the most amazing spread of food. The kids weren't very happy to be made to come but actually they all really enjoyed themselves and were very chatty. The couple ( who work together) have a daughter , who's a teacher, so we had lots of school chit chat. We had lots of ' in your country( Scotland) ...? and ' in China do you.....?" conversations , so a very interesting evening. We came away with a whole cooked chicken, a tub of fried rice and tub of dumplings...so that's tomorrow's tea sorted!
Yesterday's barbecue was cooked by a kilt wearing man assisted by a kilt wearing boy under a St. Andrews Cross and eaten by girls in tartan.....so we might have had rtc Australian sausages DFV but they were almost Scottish.....not much haggis for sale over here!!
frith I hope Master Frith The Elder is feeling better today...yikes!
sparrer I'm going to do tubs of strawbs next year as they haven't done well in the beds. Rhubarb kept growing over them and then the birdies ate them.
Have a superb Sunday....I'm off to bed..up again early for this work lark!0 -
Morning all, and apologies for the lack of posting the last couple of days - I didn't have time on Friday as it was the annual pub quiz team meal, and yesterday I didn't really feel well enough to spend much time on the computer.
PK - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog - RIP Wispa.
Frith - I will echo ampersand's 'salt-on-snail' comment - yikes that sounds bad! Glad the injured thumb isn't too badly wounded, at least.
I already have one pleasure for today - Isis' purr when I let her out of her self-imposed confinement in the bathroom first thing this morning. As far as I can tell, she was playing with her ball and managed to push the door shut behind her - I don't know how long she'd been stuck there but she was certainly pleased to see me when I opened the door! :rotfl:
I will be back later with more.Back after a very long break!0 -
So sorry to read your news re wispa pk
Missed Burns Night and the great chieftain of the puddin' race. Update for my weekend...
1) went to an elephant orphanage. Stroked a baby elephant (everybody now aaahhhhh)
2) visited the sacred temple of the tooth relic. Very peaceful. Sat with my eyes shut and refocused
3) up into the mountains and touched a tea bush - almost as exciting as the baby elephant (you can aaahhh again for the elephant)
4) visited a tea processing factory. Have discovered bop stands for broken orange pekoe
5) stayed the night further up the mountain. The b&b was shall we say quirky. The area is called little england, and the decor reminded me of my grandparents' house. Lovely staff. Can you believe it i even donned my cardi. Oh bliss (though probs only mhags will truly appreciate that)
6) sat on my verandah reading my book club book then full english for brekkie with lashings of ceylon tea. I like curry but am finding for breakfast a bit strange
7) visited a very nice lake. Was cool so slapped on loadsa sun lotion cos sun up
8) saw 2 monkeys running along a telephone line, then another one while we were having lunch
9) got back safely despite manic driving by one and all. I guess the rules of the road are just a bit different. Whenever we were behind 2 adjacent tuktuks (known as trishaws in sri lanka) it did remind me of whacky races. Actualky come to think of it the whole drive reminded me of WR!
10) nothing dastardly happened. Can i still have a medal?MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
25 for 25: 371 / 625

Good afternoon all !
DfV -I hope you are ok ? Starvation diet etc.
Sparrer- I knew that you would get the whole "safeguarding " issue. I think we have had similar experiences i.e working with vulnerable people.
5 for yesterday
1. Busy weekend
2. Made a curry in the slow cooker which makes it easier to get on with stuff for the rest of the day..
3. Let the hens loose in the garden as I was in it with them putting new clips on the mega hen run and tightening and cutting off the cable tie ends as the run has settle in situ.(the mud)
4 Found a car on the net that I liked the look of , very very low mileage , reasonably priced tidy little G.V;)
5. Enough curry to share with DM and "her familiar " with L*dl veg. Indian snack mix . Dubious about these but they were lovely.
5 for today
1. DM says "Chicken always gets what Chicken wants":rotfl:...( although she doesn't call me "C" word obviously.....because..
2.Got to the rural garage VERY early to be the first there. Saw some pheasants mooching about whilst we waited outside in the OGV for owner to arrive.
3. It was already reduced by £300 and OH haggled another £200 off of it. This allowed me to purchase it on my debit card and not touch any savings and drive it home in the pouring rain( the garage have a 7 day fully comp. insurance to get you home and give you time to sort out new ins. etc )
4. Modest GV now at home, taxed ,insured and will have a years free breakdown cover tomorrow as part of the deal. OH will use the OGV as he travels loads and I only drive on average about 10 miles a day . It is lovely to drive and "feels familiar" as I feel that all G.V's do from my experience of owning 5 of them. Happy but tired out ! All that adrenaline :rotfl:
5. Comfort food for tea . Cottage pie for OH and a quorn effort for me..
Have a lovely evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0
