    Happy Burns Day :)

    Saturday scone :)

Popped into aldi , in the nearest town one yesterday they had sets of 10 white dinner plates/ side plates/ pasta bowls reduced from $9.99 to $6.99 so I thought I'd get some to replace the mix & match and incomplete sets we use for every day. Went into our Saturday town aldi and they were reduced to $4.99 for each set. So I was rather pleased with that as I was going to buy them anyway. It works out at 49c or 25p each plate.

Also bought pillows that were reduced to $5.99/ pair.

Treated myself to 2 bunches of flowers from aldi . I bought lilies. They usually last a little bit longer than the roses.

More washing done, more ironing to be done. It is honestly never ending in this house.

Made a banana and choc chip loaf , still to be iced with chocolate icing but looks and smells nice. Note to self check you have all the ingredients before you start...I'd forgotten I'd tried to use everything up before we went on holiday and this is the first time I've baked.

We are going to have a barbecue for dinner. Took some of my rtc sausages back out the freezer to defrost. We have not used the barbecue in 2 years since we moved to this house as shortly after we moved OH was ill. So it's had a very good clean and a de-spider ( by OH not me :))

Popped into work to get a key for my first solo shift tomorrow and saw my friends , so had a quick chat with them.

Stopped at our local cafe for a coffee and an Australia Day Weekend lamington and had a very nice chat with the owners ( 2 older ladies who are always very chatty) about how to make lamingtons . We then had a google at the history of them. Then had a chat at what ever did we do before google!

A bit of a potter around afternoon, baking, putting new pillows in pillowcases, sat outside for a bit but got too warm, watched a bit more Edwardian Farm, swept up some more blooming leaves, wee snoozette.

    Have a smashing Saturday :)
PK sorry to hear about your little ferrety friend.

    4. DS gf came round and we were going to all have tea, then when it was almost ready DS decided to go to fitness training. :( They have been together for months and she has hardly spoken but she decided to stay until he got back and have dinner with me rather than waiting for him to get back - and she didn't stop talking! Nice to have a good chat ... its usually hello or goodbye ;)

Rather uneventful here, nothing much happening ... apart from next door have been banging since 8am then slamming the lid on their recycling bin outside... don't they know its rude to make so much noise on a weekend !

    I'm officially alive!
VickyA - step away from the Lakeland catalogue! Book club calleth...
Caterina - what a wonderful way to spend time with your children - paid to tell tales! Hurrah fresh bedding!
Sparrer - sorry to hear medics being dumb & delighted your friend en route to settling things - hope it works out for you both! Found ring, pedometer & book?! Quite a haul! May need iron boosting advice!
Mhagster - what critter has been at your tomatoes? At least warm means easier laundry & clean bedding. Real rain! Good for water butts & Edwardian Farm wonderful to iron to! Sausage on Burns Night?! Ah, well - when in Aus. (Potters off to google lamington & pre google we Asked folks, elders, librarians etc!)
Tealady - bothers are a special treat/affliction. I just had sisters but lots of cousins who provided similar hassles! Beef casserole sounds glorious!
BoP - scrabble & chuckles & Raffles snaffling cod - all sounds good! Rock on snorkers! And ah well re: egg!
Ampersand - bless you for the link! Blasted enfant more amused/bemused by First Girlfriend palaver ("if he has Royale children, she (V) Can't be First...") Hurrah on Belville win & have a happy frolic through the amazing textiles! Pauvre Andy to be thus subbed. Will inspect chocolate labelling with care. Spring happening as you feed birds!
CCP - hoping sis manages Escape & return to health soon! Count me in with pitchfork for LL visit! Sure OU tutor would offer compassionate leave if saw indoor water features! Hope cold Goes Away!
Giddynmg - haggis ahoy! Hurrah, team!
Lovefullshelves - tall folk fall harder. (Tested!) Good luck with real paper diary! Cat stealing Jaffa cakes? I believe you - OH may not!
Frith - <hard stare at laptop> wraps & no fuss homework - brilliant! Misread new shower through post initially - should be fun! Certificate & sensibility? Awe!
Broomstick - sweet dreams! Fun making old men smile - a new hobby?! Long car journeys handy for conversations!
Mcculloch - soup maker sounds fun & Dr C well trained, likewise Angrove Rumbaba. Enjoy both!
DD - sorry to hear heat undoing students & stomach - hope things improve!
Purple kitten - so sorry about Wispa & well done getting the rest done before.
VJsmum - building & watching & mending & knitting?! Think work a calmer environment. Musketeers all very pretty but weapons wrong & all that leather isn't "right" either, but once the historian has been gagged, bound & sent to do the washing up, the show's *fun*!
Chickenopolis - argh it makes a day stretch when disclosures trigger timed & dated reports. Hope you & person are relatively OK & that you get your flexi day!
Kittikins - go on, have a coffee & a swing at being a cougar! Real people beat Internet photos... Enjoy the rosee!
Skint yet Again - sounds like DS gf is learning New Family?!

    Pleasures recently:
Rain, making for shimmering reflections. Some mornings, puddles can be pretty!

Colleagues, bemused by me eating a heap of white rice, have all sorts of happily scurrilous (& scatological) tales relating to others who have had colonoscopies. Their supportive humour is glorious.

Appalled squeal as I walk into room where son ironing. Hadn't realised he's that sensitive to being disrupted. (Dreadful language, lovely smart shirt...) Engulfing apologetic hug!

Listening to power tool die, then possibly be resurrected with strategic cleaning. Hope is an amazing feeling (especially when the replacement is £140...!) [Um. Indeed, darn.]

Son, hearing I'm now on liquids only, promptly asked if he could have one of the bread rolls (I'd included them in meal plans then not followed the plans!) so he devoured it - managing to grin throughout!

Papiermache helmet (Cylon?) propped up for multi angle consideration found sporting a clay pipe at a very jaunty angle. (Pipe owner chortling alongside me - all is well!).

Just so glad I got the low salt organic veg bouillon powder when it was on special offer last month. It tastes much nicer & *much* less salty!

Trying to negotiate cab fares - and succeeding in part...

"Stop. Sit. Savour." reads the jar of Bovril. Well, the first two instructions I will Certainly be following...

Husband industriously working on sword - handle a two hander for me! It takes his mind off worrying (although I suspect he's multitasking on the sly...)

Realising I can stop whimpering if I just move away from the "last thing you ate" thread!

Son made me a tiny bunch of felt flowers, which I wore or had with me, all day. They're simple but utterly cute!

Shortly sorting Haggis, tatties etc. My first Real Food, & I've been planning it!

Big hugs to all who need them, hwbs & hankies likewise & hurrah for the NHS!

PK my condolences re your Wispa, may she RiP x
VJsmum thank you, I've made up my mind to give up thinking about GP's, results etc, and am just going to continue as usual. I enjoyed Musketeers also, I don't mind a bit of 'eye candy' now and then :)
BoP I hope you went back and cleaned up that kitchen before Mrs Bop found the mess you made. Tut tut.
chicken good for you handling the difficult situation at work, it's never easy but better done sooner rather than later
kittikins hope your dad is feeling more himself today
Belated Happy Burns Day mhags, and good luck with your solo shift
DFV there's no noise much more scary than a power tool about to die, so I'm please it had a revival after some TLC

    1. Managed to get some washing blown dry on the line this morning. Lovely to hang it out in January
    2. Thinned out the strawberry bed but think I may dig them up saving the newest plants, and make a 'square foot' bed in its place. I could possibly grow enough veg to see me through a good part of the year, if it works. Worth a try
    3. Hung some wall baskets ready for tomatoes
    4. The storm this afternoon. They're usually at night so I sleep through them (I could sleep through a bomb dropping!) so was pleased to sit and watch it for a while
    5. The haggis I bought on my trip to Oban last year came out of the freezer to defrost last night. Will be having it this evening with the neeps and tatties that are simmering in the slow cooker
    6. 5000 posts, goodness you'd think I could find something more industrious to do ;)

Enjoy the evening and have sweet dreams later :)

Ah, BoPsie. She luffs her BoP. She had bought the Bishop round, will be glassed later!

    HUGE hugs to purple kitten

Busy day yesterday in London doing "school stuff" before getting home and going straight out again to see Punt & Dennis. Yesterday wasn't terribly OS but at least I'll be able to claim my travel back.

However, my OS over the last couple of days:

    1) Croissants in freezer eaten this morning for breakfast, having been heated up before hand. :D

    2) Pens, pencil, notepad and a mug collected at yesterday's ICT in education trade show (aka BETT).

    3) Friend treated me to lunch. Yum! (not OS, but a lovely treat)

    4) DH has washed my car, bless him, just before the most horrendous storm hit us. Well, by horrendous I mean the sky became black all too quickly and the lightning was bright with the thunder far too loud. I know other people have been affected in worse ways.

    5) Money transferred into various pots. Hoping it'll stay in those pots and be saved up, as opposed to having to be dipped into. However, hopefully no massive expenses over the next 5 weeks. :o

    Night all x

    Evening all.
    Hugs to all :)

    Five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Braved a big supermarket shop to use my 'spend £60 get £12 taken off the bill' voucher for last week - had to be used by today. I got the weekly shop but also carried on stocking up on tins and loo rolls up to the £60 and no more. :D The heavens opened with torrential rain and gales just as I was going through the tills and absolutely everyone stopped what they were doing, including the cashiers, and turned to watch. There was a collective ooooh which was very funny.

    2. Treated us each to a can of ginger beer with supper. (We know how to live!!!)

    3. Went out for a walk after dark to get my steps total up and stopped off to pick up some hot cross buns (which I'd forgotten to get earlier) for the DSs' breakfasts tomorrow. We have another really early start, long drive, breakfast on the move etc happening. Hot Cross buns in January is ridiculous really.

    4. Another £2 for the car tax fund.

    5. Nice chat with my mum on the phone.

    Sweet dreams

    B x
