5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

1. Visited DM, a very belated visit which had to be cancelled twice for various reasons
2. DB came over, he's such a nut and we do tease and laugh a lot when we get together
3. Bought DM her C-word presents which she chose so I didn't get it wrong
4. Arranged a family meal in a fortnight's time with DB and Sis-in-L, nieces, their husbands and various young children. Should liven up the restaurant
5. Got home safely after a 3 hour/70 mile trip in torrential rain, the car is so filthy it looks like an off-roader. The garden looks like a bomb hit it, the bags of leaves back where they started - everywhere! - wigwams and pots all over the the place, but nothing broken. The pleasure was getting home, feeding the dog & mog, and putting the kettle on. Normality
Sweet dreams0 -
Really tired tonight so these five pleasures need to be quick. I need my bed.
1. Fish, mash and salad for supper.
2. Remembering the collective joy and excitement when watching the TV news in 1990 when Nelson Mandela was released from prison.
3. One of our families at the club gave us a big box of biscuits as a thank you for this year. Lovely and unexpected.
4. Ep 4 of Tudor Farm.
5. The hottie I have just made to take to bed.
Sending (((hugs))) and positive thoughts to everyone who is struggling with the effects of the storms and waiting for the outcome of high tides tonight. (((Hugs))) too to those who are poorly. Get well soon.
Sweet dreams, safe homes

Yoohoo it's Friday ! Hurrah I'm having a night out!
Got my glad rags on, toenails and fingernails painted dark burgundy, make up on, perfume scooshed!
Grocery shopping first thing. Few bargains.
Tidied house.
Stayed dry enough to get washing out on line.
Went to charity shop and got top for me, top for DD2( brand new and half price!) and 2 pretty dresses for great niece.
Popped into hairdressers and asked if they could fit me in to trim my fringe...they could . Went back later and it was free of charge so that's was nice.
Singing and singing and singing out loud with DD1
DD2 delighted she is being moved to a high achievers class for English. We are too. She skipped a year group when moved here and after the horrid year she has had at school this has been very positive news. It is so nearly the school holidays for her. Now dear this!
Just one nod on the twitter, summed it up. Had to unfollow some non entity binty, I realised that the applause the other night were for some 90 year I never knew. Alas, as with all media events, radio silence is again in force.
Until the break through in Reykjavik, there were two spheres. Each getting under the other. We just had 50 years since JFK elimination, and the removal as well of Khrushchev. The world was different then. Conveniently most would not have a inkling of this event!
Bit apt the man with three heads being 1 in 7 billion yesterday. But we all are. Yet, tonight, though not my turn, countless numbers will give their free time to enrich others.
Got a game on tomorrow, so will be in the paper on Sunday, again. You knows you’ll all go gooey eyed over the pictures.
So, my twitter is awash with sentiments from people I do not know.
In some respect, the applause the other night was for respect. The Dartford fans would not have known Mr Dangerfield. Yet they stood together and applauded with the Forest Green fans. Just as Nelson did with the Springbok shirt those years ago. In sport we battle, especially against the Aussies, yet resect our foes. Just as a footballer does when he goes through the tunnel, those with exception can embrace all as the gladiator did to the lion. By then, after the cry to Mr Gorbachev to ‘Tear down the wall’, it was over. As daylight struck, the floodlights. Out stepped the player into the field. Not great at that stage. There had been divisions, not on the local field, but other places. A bust caused some rift. One side would berate, another applaud.
Yet, the shops years ago refused to stock my paper. That early September edition in ’97. I wonder what the next one will say.
Though the rushed editions were awash. Time had been placed for the words today though.
Conform now. As most nose round here, I do not conform. I am not a sheeple. Great people are sheep, they are the shepherds. Rather, as I put it, the Sheep Dog”
But what annoys me again, those whom are unable to add anything to enrich others, who take the opportunity to snide those they oppose on such days. Same sentiments of nothing that are being repeated today, just as the last time a distinguished leader died.
Again this morn on the side of the road was the cairn of faded plastic flowers. Dirty now, but not decayed. And as for another candle I must forward on facebuck. I never knew you, you never knew me, say hello, Goodbye.
So, this morn, another hero dies. Just like the ghetto.0 -
DD - pontefract cakes? Aw! How goes the love of three oranges opera DVD box? I'm enjoying sending Advent iphone snaps to m'lady mother. Need to peg middle son out for a snap... Right with you driver shouldn't have been sent out, & glad to hear you're travelling safely.
Kittikins - great to have you back& what wonderful pleasures - hurrah for choir & latin & all the best for a succesful Fete! Att girl DD on Maths Challenge triumphs! You learn the good stuff the prioper weay & have no truck with these online cutdowns. That way lies Dumbing Down. Keep up the library hours!
BoP - how's Raffles in these brezes? Ruffled? Ah, fur in the paper tray - handy for felines, not so good for printers. Devouring the fishes, eh? "cairn of faded plastic flowers" - I love the way you put things. You share how you see some things with a camera, and others with prose.
Frith - brilliant news about smaller son - congratulations on All Christmas Cards Done! Would love to have seen faces as Grandad on Radio on Internet... pastry is a wonderful game. Footshrimps with added windup spiders?! <HidesUnderTable> All the best mountain building! Chimney cowl, helpful smaller son & Well Done taking posiitive steps against bullying. At least K knows one grownup Knows & Cares & is on his side.
mhagster - no matter how rainy & cool, pack another sweater as it's dratted cold in Scotland this week. My theory is if you Pack for Arctic weather, it'll be Yellow Stuff All The Way. 12 is Roasting, here! Brownies & Strawberries... Your daughter gets moved to High Acheivers (Rightly) & you're on the razzle? Excellent all round!
lovefullshelves - Stay Sitting. You should be planning to wrestle landry as a New Year hobby, not doing it rather than commit uxoricide. Just as the medics have unplugged part of the system doesn't mean there aren't still tides sloshing around. Get those needles going on a tubes top for DS - you can always recycle the wool & laughter has to be good for you, even if it's sore. Desist cleaning!
Purple kitten - yeay for responder training, Christmas music & canny shopping! Understand yearing for kfc, but wow Venison - so much more interesting as well as Much less expensive - well done!
CCP - you twitch? I just enjoy the things that chirp & chark & trill & squalk (as well as the offspring.) Successful reboot of phone, and advice on new CD player? This white heat willbe reaching your toes soon! (That or Isis!)
ampersand - compline sounds delicious. Baccarat decanters tend to have lovely lines - very pleasing to the eye regardless of contents. I like the idea of a jour Saint - but then I almost fell over when I was taught I had a fete!
Broomstick - soup is an underrated pleasure. Sorting a new revenue tream too! <admiresVoom!> The Farm was great - we were very taken with the mining!
sparrer - there's an impressive haul! Glad to hear giddies calming a bit & NHS beginning to extract the digit. You've been driving through this palaver? Gardens can be tidied - you're still alive & we're glad of it!
VJsmum - what a cracking pie! And to be able to fill an apparent gap in knowledge from off the favourite cuff <Awe!>
Skint yet Again - time off for good behaviour & resting! (I'm a fan of Weth's curry club - simple pleasure!)
Sundry OS Pleasures for the last few days:
Was it Mother Theresa who wished God wouldn't trust her so much? Having reversed into a car park space with a puny wire fence before a 10' drop, I echo her opinion!
I was out driving in the winds - lost the back wiper (& almost nerve). However, colleague from Bangor had admirable plans - if there are no trains, he'll call in a favour from his daughter. (One father laughed rather dryly & our colleague revealed the ace - her car goes for it's MOT next week & he's promised to spend a day on it, Before.)
The merry chirps of colleagues tucking into shortbread biscuits I'd brought - happy colleagues, happy noises!
The high-speed constrictor hug from youngest as I got in. Some days I wonder if my ribs can take his affection!
Having a splendid lunch out, chortling with much laughter & interrogating a passing beagle on his collar. Collarless shirt, starched wing collar held in with two studs & tabs tied over the lot. With the intelligence & charm, a devastating combination!
Discussing a possible Work Experience placement:
"A lot of boxes get ticked"
"Yeah & I'll have to count them..."
There wasn't active disagreement.
Big hugs to all who need them, restoring health & may we all survive the weather!0 -

Given that, when I first read your post, Isis had just embarked on another whirlwind game with her ball, the answer to that was a definite 'yes', albeit not in the sense you meant!
mhagster - hope you had a great time out in your glad rags.
1) Managed to get one of the last spaces in the office car park this morning, something that is by no means assured at the moment.
2) Went out at lunchtime to buy a new Christmas tree (I decided to get a little one this year, which can be put on a table out of the reach of flying paws!) and the man on the till had a definite dose of Christmas spirit, singing his comments to customers to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas! :rotfl:
3) Isis has developed a new fondness for playing catch with me - I throw her ball to her and she bats it back, and we repeat to the sound of an ever-increasing purr.(A related pleasure - a colleague today decided to look up the Egyptian myth of Isis and Osiris, after which my Isis is named. If you don't know the story, look it up on wikipedia, but don't say I didn't warn you! :rotfl:)
4) Put up my Christmas tree. Given that I've downgraded from a 7 foot tree to a 4 foot one, I'm pleasantly surprised by how many of my favourite decorations I've managed to get on the branches, although I've had to leave off some of the bigger ones as they looked out of scale with a smaller tree.
5) And I will now have my traditional post-tree evening - a takeaway pizza, using a money-off code, a glass of wine, and my very dog-eared copy of The Hogfather.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
It's been a hectic past few days. I went to Ladies' Night at Leicester Tigers on Wednesday. Not many ladies, but plenty of women, and plenty of petrified players. There was one "young boy" (must have been 19) and he just looked like a rabbit in the headlights. He admitted to me that he felt VERY uncomfortable. Bless.
Right, let me try to wrack my brains for my OS of the past couple of days.
1) MyWaitrose card has arrived, complete with key tags. DH has been issued with one as he works very close to a Waitrose. I think I'm now loyal to most supermarkets.
2) Unpacked our pretty Christmas candle from our trip to Brussels at the weekend. I'm looking forward to lighting it tomorrow when we have friends round to visit.
3) Speaking of friends visiting, I need to find a recipe to cook for lunch. I had a recipe in mind, but it's been removed from the BBC Good Food website and I didn't print it out the last time I cooked it. Rats! :wall:
4) Looking back at some photos of when DH and I visited South Africa and spent half a day on Robben Island. We had the most amazing experience as our tour guide had been in the PAC and one of the other people on the tour was Andrew Mlangeni who had been tried in the Rivonia Trial and was imprisoned next to Nelson Mandela. Still incredible to think about it.
5) Supper tonight was from our freezer stock. Good old spag bol! Mmmmm, yum
