    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

VJsmum - Robben Island had a big impact on DH and I too. Truly incredible especially as it happened within many people's living memory.

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Friends visited and I cooked them Cottage Pie from the Hairy Dieters' book. It really was delicious and we have leftovers for tomorrow!

    2) A ridge tile has been blown off by the wind. FIL was round within minutes of us finding it with his ladders, DH mixed up some mortar and it's as good as new-ish. :D At least it will hold (fingers crossed) until we can get someone to properly look at it next year.

    3) Watching Harry Potter on ITV. Love Harry Potter and it helped me to get my first job when I was asked at the interview what I liked to do in my spare time. I listed the normal stuff of swimming, keeping fit, socialising and..... reading Harry Potter books. My interviewer also liked Harry Potter books, so I got the job! :j

    4) Helped a friend find some books for her son. They live in Spain and they are bringing him up bi-lingual, but needed some support in finding good English books.

    5) Got loads of things for a charity shop run. I really need to sort out my stuff!!

    1) Ms Whirlwind woke up early this morning (well, early for a Saturday anyway - to be fair to her it wasn't that much earlier than I would usually get up on a work day) but, after a bit of fuss, agreed to have some breakfast and then settle down again, so I got a lie-in. :)

    2) Made a start on my next OU essay, although I didn't get far - after struggling for two and half hours and ending up with only 500 words I decided to accept I just wasn't in a writing mood today and went to watch some Simon's Cat films instead (including this festive gem, which always makes me LOL no matter how many times I see it!).

    3) NSD and NPD.

    4) A few weeks ago I got a tray of pork and apple snags RTC, and put the whole lot in the freezer thinking I could always split them up once they were frozen. Unfortunately they have all stuck together so I had to defrost the lot, and now have a big sausage and veg casserole simmering in the oven, and still have some left to do something else with.

    5) Changed the bed, so I have nice clean sheets to sleep on later.
Back after a very long break!

    1. Went to my school's fete with DD, and met a lot of the children from my class.

    2. Took DD out for lunch afterwards (she needed a treat after meeting all those people!!)

    3. Snuggled up on the sofa with DD when we got home and watched Babe :) She'd never seen it! Such a cute film :)

    4. I dropped her off at a party and popped over to a local town to pick up her last present! I must stop spending and I'm not looking forward to wrapping everything!.....

    5. Had a tiny glass of wine with the birthday girl's mummy when I went to pick her up, very nice too!

Ampersand, one can never have enough hwbs, Thank you for my new French word of the week. I had to do a CCP and look it up too. :o:D

lfs I love the expression 'healing day' - I now have a phrase I can use to describe the times that end up as a lie-in all morning, not getting dressed til lunchtime, forgetting to do essential jobs etc. :T Anyway, I hope your real-life healing is coming on apace.

    Five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Survived the 300 mile round trip to take DS1 to a competition. (Meanwhile DS2 stayed at home to have his very own 'healing day' :D)

    2. Took fleeces, the infamous hwb and packed breakfast, lunch and snacks and spent much of the morning in the car asleep and toasty warm so that I was rested enough for the drive home. It was a horribly early start this morning.

    3. And when I woke up the sun was shining and two magpies (for joy) were flying around chasing each other.

    4. Then met up with lots of friends at the event.

    5. Very funny phone conversation with my dad when we got home about his and my mum's day which was packed with seriously funny senior moments.

    Sweet dreams

Hello it's Sunday evening and I'm listening to the black birds singing and enjoying a wee cool breeze coming through the open front door.

Been a pleasant weekend, dull and windy today but a warm wind. A few spots of rain.

Friday night was very pleasant..we were catching up with friends from Queensland and Tasmania.....the annual Christmas meal. They'd all been drinking since early afternoon so they were well oiled when we joined them!

Dinner in a very nice Italian restaurant , we shared salumi platters, deep fried stuffed zucchini flower ( courgette) which was amazing. Then a cheese filled focaccia . Because I've recently worked ...all be it briefly in an Italian cafe I was familiar with what we ordered . I had a pizza as my main and OH had a seafood pasta dish. All stuffed and no room for pudding! Split the bill 4 ways...still gulped at the price but we all certainly enjoyed our meal and it's once a year!

Out and about on Saturday , coffees, shopping and optician appointments.

Beans on toast for tea...nice and simple after the night before!

Nice walk with OH once it was dark. Lots of homes are all decorated outside for Christmas,so we enjoy wandering round having a nosy! We saw a tawny frogmouth bird in a tree and lots of bats. No possums last night, whereas on Thursday night there were loads of them.all accompanied to the noisy crickets.

Today was a longish lie, a drop off for DD2, a wander with OH , chat with next door neighbour and a big ironing!

Think I will make pasta with cream. Bacon and mushrooms as that's what I have .needing to be frugal throughout this week as we have a busy next weekend. There is plenty in the cupboards and almost got the freezer empty, which it should be by this week.

    Have a lovely day x

Eta chookychicken and tealady. Hope all is well with you both....come back soon :)

    1. New slippers for DD!

    2. 3 for 2 boxes of chocs in Th0rntons, last present for mummykins (yummy diabetic selections, not just chocs, but bags of goodies), and teacher/TA presents bought :)

    3. Not MS at all, but paid some chaps in the car park to wash my filthy car for me. After all, it's been about 2 years since it last saw a chamois leather! Now to think (note the use of the word think) about the inside ;)

    4. Have lots of ideas, but nothing too coherent for this week's lessons! Hopefully once I stop procrastinating, I'll get them done!

    5. DD and I counted to check that daddykin's second-hand jigsaw present had the right number of pieces....phew!

    6. DD crept into my bed during the night and treated me to cuddles:)

    7. Another form of procrastination is list-writing! So far, I'm making lists of : chums we want to see when we go to Brighton; favourite restaurants we need to visit; uni work that I must get done for all gazillion subjects; places in the house I need to sort paperwork out from (my filing system has gone to pot in recent weeks). I do so love a good list or two!! :)
