Bit of stupid apology. 'Felt needed' in prev. post referred to compline, not self. Even that sounds egocentric precious.
    1. Comfy tummy, warm and full of all wrong things supper and don't care. Bubble and squeaked leftover cavalo nero and apple, added w89rs last-one fish cake, ditto AbAng beefburger[31p for both, thankyou young M on meat counter] -total butter fry-up. Eating just half of each means brekkers demain, prob. Might take compline mulled wine to bed, just to maintain the mse spirit of rechauff!.

    2. Struggled to find something in little c.s. en route to Nmkt today, but suddenly saw a heap of old embroidered hankies and a pretty padded coathanger. Only tonight do I find 5 hankies at bottom of heap are lovely old silk Union Jacks, hand-rolled edges.

    3. hwb awaits, yumyum. May well frecklessly[to defeat silly censor] throw further OAP portion at purchase of une autre[because it's la bouillotte, broomstick,as we all do know. Ask kittikins].

    4. An extra good catch-up cuppytea with friend in near village, which warmed hands, frozen despite glubs. We shared marvellous chat about recent auction find, concerning which things are ongoing and quite a little bit exciting.

    5. Spits improved, thank goodness and &was able to put out a few fires[thankyou for that phrase broomstick - entirely apt, but wishing we needn't be it finding thus. Some people's lives are not easy and that sends me back here in whatever unlikely thankfulness]. Moderately happier banking late this arvo therefore, with free w8rs kaffe and read of broadsheets. Knew nothing of what was going on yesterday in world, in weather, in cricket until half-way back last night. Sparrer, we're not zog-miles apart, so your damage was startling to read. Nothing here and my honeysuckle sprig is still crimson pink and waiting to open.

    6. Usual ruggers banter in Bank, when poss. NZ trip May/June came up. France will be touring. S. said 'You'll be happy. You can't lose either way.' Wouldn't mind watching Toulon in Exeter tomorrow after last week's clean slate shock loss. Jonny was not playing.

    7. em re:Lord Minchin of Tim -

Done instantest. Early pack-up@Spits after next. That's my crimbo to me.

    8. Still loving Spooky Men's music massively. It's permanent. I've long loved big sound loud singing car times and have just joined in the Beach Boys one started earlier on here. 'Pet Sounds' is still a fave.
    Let's have this one:

-since pk, & and maybe others still have long hair.
Agree with this comment down the page-

John Lennon heard Pet Sounds when it first came out, and called it a masterpiece. Of course, he was right. I don't choose between Beatles or Beach Boys...I love them both.

    Oh, now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkPy18xW1j8&list=RDVyhU2mVyFAk
and just down the rhs what do I spot but The Mamas and The Papas' California Dreamin?...gorgeous, gorgeous and this nostalgia IS what it used to be.

    9. Some big supporting concerns and THINGS atm. Just have to plod on, but this Thread does feel like a safe place to simply lay the words out, a respite and restore pause.

10.Postie!!! - from one who no longer crimbo's as such, my very special thanks. I love that card, 3 sails v.right for &. ykwya.

Now, just a quick sign-off to Ms Whirlwind and Admiral Raffles....go easy on them please. Yes, they're inept, they can't do much right. BUT THEY TRY. One of them makes his own scrabble rules. Let's hope t'other one does get that new job in the rubber ball catnip mouse warehouse[we know the application went in] You have to face it, both of you, they're only 2-foots and - it's obvious - can't expected to be up to scratch without constant re-training. Yes, it's exhausting for you both but such is your destiny. Just rest whenever you can.

VickyA - I've been to Robben Island too. Amazing isn't it? Had a massive impact on us and the children. Mr Mandela you were, and shall remain, a truly inspirational person
Ampersand - will you hate me if I say that I am not much keen on either the beach boys or the Beatles
CCP - how nice to have tree traditions. I am looking forward to putting ours up on Sunday
DforV -we have work experience to deal with too. I think you know the week clashes with Glastonbury so I have to do some fudging on the dates
    LFS - gently does it
Mhags - hope you had a lovely time

    Today's pleasures

1 the advantage of teaching the same subject several times in succession is that you really do learn what you need to. Enjoyed today
2 DD is improving having not been well this week. Another audition has come in
3 yummy cottage pie for tea
4 got a bargain present for nephew via gropupon
    5 dad didn't get flooded

    Night all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Glad we're all here (as are our parents etc) after the winds and floods x

    1. Had a lovely lie in this morning, as wasn't due at uni until 11 :)

    2. Made my maths lecturer's day when I chatted with her about loving teaching maths, despite having major fears beforehand :)

    3. Today's maths equivalent of yesterday's English workshop was still pretty pants, but was many times better than yesterday! At least I got to chat to some different people.....

    4. Enjoyed a few hours in the library afterwards :)

    5. I've got more ideas for my next big assignment, and next week's lessons. Just need to turn them into something a wee bit more tangible!!

    6. DD answered nearly every clue in today's Telegraph small crossword by herself at dinner time! We do the crossword each day and she always blows us away with her knowledge, but today was out of this world!

    7. I've finally joined the technological masses, and have had my first Skype chat with a lovely chum!!

    8. The boots I bought DD yesterday fit beautifully and she loves them :) Hoorah for 25% off in MrS!

    9. No more uni until 2014 :)

    10. The prospect of another little lie-in tomorrow :0)

Evening. Flipping freezing here tonight. I think I'm going down with DS1's bug and my sense of temperature has gone wrong.

    Five pleasures for Friday:

    1. Seeing DSs' sports coach - lovely man - hadn't had the chance to meet up with him since September and I dropped in on their individual lessons today to say hello.

    2. Sorted out DS1's work cheques for him to bank - an overdue job.

    3. Phone call with my parents making cheering plans around Xmas.

    4. Went and sorted out the sports hall bookings this afternoon for the new training sessions after Christmas. Lovely member of staff showed us round and talked us through the paperwork, layout, security etc. It's going to be a great venue to deal with. Very cheered up by that.

    5. Discovering that the weather early tomorrow morning for the very long drive I've got to do looks like it will not be too bad.

Off to find and fill the hwb and get some sleep.

    Sweet dreams
    B x

    1. Finished the C cards, there were just over 20 to write this year, a few more than the dozen I'd planned but you know how it is! WaterAid will reap the benefit of the ones I didn't write
    2. Finalised Sundays dinner for the friend who is emigrating, the restaurant have done us proud with every item on the menu being made exactly as we asked for it and dealing with all the diets and peculiarities
    3. Have sneakily been in touch with said friend's sister in Rotorua who is going to buy her a NZ prezzycard with our collection, as her home has already gone in the container and she already has several cases to take with her. I think a single straw more would break the aeroplane's back!
    4. Had a lovely reminiscing session with the photograph boxes and Channel 4's blues programmes in the background
    5. At last a definite appointment for g/enterology, now 27th Dec which means I'll be able to enjoy the 3 Christmas dinners I'm attending. So far ;)

    Sweet dreams :)

    Quite a busy day today.

    1) Had to write a statement at school about the fight yesterday. (Well, didn't HAVE to but the head was going to be in meetings all morning so the secretary suggested it.)

Head then phoned me at home. I was worried she might think I was interfering but she said she had spoken to the 3 boys who were being rough and thanked me for stepping in.

    2) Managed to speak to someone really helpful at the Science Museum (after 4 wasted calls!) and a refund is on its way for the lava lamp that would not work.

    3) Made an appointment to get my new will signed.

    4) Porridge for breakfast. (After all of the above - was hungry!)

    5) Brother and dad appeared to fit the chimney liner and new cowl. What a palaver! As always with jobs connected with this pokey little cottage - not enough room to work and lots of sticky out bits getting in the way. Brother ended up sitting on top of the chimney on the roof as so difficult to reach it from the ladder. :-/

New cowl sits across the ceramic chimney pot so hopefully no more rain flooding the living room.

    6) Last bit of yesterday's vegetable crumble for my lunch.

    7) Brother returned with different tools to chop off end of chimney liner (too long with new fitting at the top!) and within an hour we'd got the stove re-fitted.

    8) Smaller son's TA said he had helped a child in the speech and language nursery (with no speech at all) to put her coat on and find the staff member she needed. As she said, smaller son won't acknowledge staff members and walks about muttering under his breath but if you can get past that, he is incredibly helpful and polite!

    9) Christmas fair at smaller son's school. I gave him a £5 note (as I had no change) but he thought I meant him to spend all of it! So he ran in and bought 10 bags of sweets he and his classmates had made. It's been crazy - we gave 2 bags to my brother and we've been eating the rest for hours but there are still 2 bags left!

    10) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    11) Curry and rice for tea.

    12) Worked hard on the Sinter Klaas presents (for tomorrow!) Smaller son has my brother in law as his person so has made him a papier mache "mountain" and will put a Lego man abseiling down it. :-)

    13) Enjoyed watching I'm a Celebrity.

    14) Sitting by the fire (mended at last!) with some sloe gin.

    15) Looking forward to the News Quiz just now.

I was convinced I had written a long post Thursday night and it isn't here. Oh well, c'est la vie on here.
Thank you for all yours, cannot put into words how much I feel lifted by them so often. So many GOOD things to celebrate.

    1. Sharing this on FB with Dr C. and one his best friends who is the best guitarist I know.
It's the utterly incredible Tommy Emmanuel, who, like the great Martin Taylor, can make one guitar sound like three.

    2. Dr C has got all the Christmas decs out of the attic. Last year he wasn't well and I got into trouble with my daughter for getting them down myself. It was a bit scary, I must admit.

    3. The incredible discovery that turmeric works on me as an anti-inflammatory and painkiller. My usual ones don't have much effect, I ration them so my system doesn't get too used and all effect is lost. A very messy but effective spoonful of turmeric with honey worked. Psychosomatic or not, I am definitely in less pain in my hip and moving far more easily. 49p a 40g jar, at A!di which should last me for around 10 days.

    4. Speaking of A!di, their Hunter's Chicken sauce made a very tasty meal with chicken breasts wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with cheese. The A!di frozen chicken breasts without added water made this cost-effective with compromising quality.

    5. I have found an old schoolfriend on FB! We were friends and friendly rivals for top scholar in English throughout school. She was such a nice person. She is newly retired, I am looking forward to some long chats with her remembering old friends.

DD - re: the first two across spelling out a phrase....well, usually we're having to cope with my daddykin's rather idiosyncratic reading of the clues and quite often, his undiagnosed dyscalculia,i.e. a 4 letter word is often billed to us as "a 6, oh sorry, 5 I was reading the wrong clue, no, I mean 4" ;)

However, DD has bought grannykins (mummykins) a book of DT crosswords for Christmas, and if we're lucky, either grannykins or mummykins will be allowed to don their reading classes once in a while to hopefully not massacre the clues!!

    1. First pleasure of the day - somehow managing to clear some space on my stupid phone so that I can receive text messages again!

Strange, I thought of that when I was[STRIKE] on the[/STRIKE] in the bathroom this morning - no, not all at the same time, not even on Christmas Day, and not a sprout in sight!! :rotfl:

Spending today with other scrubbers (thank heaven not all my friends are emigrating and having to clean their houses), back later if we're not worn out :)
