5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Last couple of days:
Enjoying the bells through the fog, the smell of bacon from the cafe I stump past - running just early enough to allow myself a Waitrose freebie! (Spinningfields machine out of order, drat.)
In town, in 80 yards there are at least 12 shades of Autumn while a lot other trees are still green.
Loved the Wipers Times (BBC2, Thursday 9-10.30pm) - past my bedtime but glorious - funny & profoundly moving. We wonder still if great-grandfather was in the 12th - the records are missing.
Waving to the tailor. Big smiles, both sides of the glass.
As her tired young daughter let rip from the trolley, I cheered on a young mum, who was touchingly pleased someone Understood. My three are largely past public screaming but gosh I remember!
Sunrise uplighting clouds on the run in this morning - beautiful!
I staggered in, to find m'husband frying bacon for sandwiches all round. Truly a splendid parent - all persons arriving are plied with food as they abandon school/office wear. The OS pleasure is the smell!
Hugs to all who need them!0 -
Evening all.
VJsmum - hope you feel much better soon. I occasionally suffer from similar problems, although rarely as badly as you seem to have it - I really hate that "why won't things stop moving?" sensation.
LFS - malarky. Good word!
1) NSD.
2) Event I was running at work went well, with (as usual, tbh) a thoroughly nice bunch of people attending.
3) Had a nice chat to a lady at the CPL who wanted to know if I am still interested in adopting a cat (I am, but can't do it yet, sadly), and ended up just talking about the cats in her care.
4) Left work early because I worked through my lunch break at the event, but would probably have gone anyway as I had a splitting headache.I drank most of a tap-full of water when I got home and now feel much better so it was obviously just caused by not drinking enough - oops!
5) Autumnal dinner tonight, to go with autumnal weather - pasta with leeks, mushrooms and pigeon meat (which has been in the freezer for ages, so I hope it's still OK :undecided).Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening everyone...
all this blogging ... is it catching ? :rotfl:
Vjsmum my sympathies re the dizziness ... I have had benign positional vertigo (crystals in the ears) which sends you dizzy when moving your head and your eyes move uncontrollably ..... very attractive... glad you are feeling better
Chicken - enjoy your night out !
PK (((hugs))) sorry to hear about your ferret x
CCP - Pigeon _pale_
BoP ... injuns !! I always preferred to [STRIKE]do the [/STRIKE]be the cowboy
Pleasures
1. managed to fix freezer last night and its still working this morning. It started turning itself on and off and bleeping. It did this last year when my DF was visiting and we found a fix on tinternet. The pleasure is that I remembered how to remove the circuit board and clean off the solder whiskers causing the problem and put it all back together without electrocution or blowing up the fridge
2. lovely sunny afternoon
3. scaffolding has gone up... chimneys come down tomorrow
4. pizza from freezer for tea
5. DS has gone out for the evening so am going to catch up on some "ME" tv .... 2 hours of Vera first...
Chicken..am down to 1 a day but have to admit foot has started to ache more. Not sure if I have done the right thing coming off them.... however it could be aches from the gym work physio had me doing yesterday.... will see how it goes.

1. Pft work on a Friday – the London crowds getting home, but tis over with and home now snug as a bug.:D
2. I made the effort t cook properly when it was so tempting not to.:p
3. The other fuzzies have been grieving for their cage mate, but today they they literally dragged me out in the garden as I was rough and tumbling with them all must have looked like a nutter to the neighbours as I was getting drenched, but amazing therapy.:T
4. Just about to have a HM peanut Butter and banana milkshake, er 1 of the 5 a day…:rotfl:.
5. Looking forward to getting up at silly o clock to go to a steam fair, we were supposed to be camping but hey we can at least spend the day.:j:j0 -

:T
I have uploaded my first ever picture. This is Honey Bear in the CoL, choosing where we should go (back in May).
This is my definitely one of my 5 OS pleasures!
Others are
Gradually feeling better - but there are still "moments"
watched another killing or two
Started knitting my jumper on the recommended needle size. It's too small so I have to unravel and start again on big needles. The pleasure is that I realised after 8 rows and not when it was finished.
Lunch with friend and her daughter (my goddaughter who is off to uni in 2 weeks)
Nighty night.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
No small Frith children on that photo, VJsmum!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons had a good day at school.
3) Gloss! Did all the new woodwork in the kitchen, the door frame (seems to be made up of a thousand different angles) and some woodwork upstairs.
4) Took my brother to an open day at our local cinema. Got shown round including upstairs and the projector room.
5) Went to bingo in our village hall. I won a tray of cyclamen plants then a bottle of wine. Then bigger son won a bottle of pretend Baileys and a big bag of crisps!
That's all for now. Taking advantage of more heritage open days tomorrow to look round our local Polish church and the dig I was working on the other week. And we've got a geocaching meet up!0 -
1. DD and I played a duet on the keyboard! (She's had one lesson so far, and played C in a variety of crotchets, minims and semibreves with amazing timing
I played the accompaniment). She was so thrilled, she wanted to play again and again and again and again....bless her chops x My granny, who was a professional pianist for a while, must be looking down proudly at us
2. Last day at schoolbut had a brilliant day
and will be back there in October
3. Lovely cards from the girls and head of junior school.
4. Did another bit of teaching - a fab science activity that was the envy of the KS2 teachers , even if I say so myself
5. Cuddles with DD this morning, always the best part of the day
6. My first week's uni timetable has come through - woo hoo! Looks rather dull, especially compared to the past 2 weeks, but it's the official start of my new life
7. Whilst waiting for DD to come in for her keyboard practice, I played through a book I used to play years and years ago. Must find more of them, as it was very relaxing to sit and play (and despite my piano snobbery, I did like the fact that I could have the volume turned down low on the keyboard to hide any wrong notes!)
8. NSD0 -
So sorry to hear about the estate agent mhags, you certainly need to rant at them long and loud until they do what you pay them to do.
pk sorry to hear about the ferret, but you gave him a far happier life than he might have had elsewhere. RiP little ferret
VJsmum love the pic of Honey Bear, how on earth do you do that? The view reminds me of many happy holidays in our tourer
CCP you are in a similar position to me, I have a friend who desperately needs to rehome three adult cats due to very sad circumstances and I would love to take even one but can't, and can't bear the thought of them being pts through no fault of their own. What a quandary. So many mogs, so few homes, wish it was compulsory for them to be speyed/neutered, though I'm not sure how it could be enforced
Frith well done on your wins, I'm envious about the tray of cyclamen
Chicken thank you. Hope your Mum is well on the way to recovery now
1. Made my first loaf on quick setting, turned out really well so don't know why I've been wasting time & elec on the normal bake setting
2. Made a korma from scratch, enough for 3 meals
3. Phoned the respiratory clinic and have an appt for next Tues. Physio said she'll get me on the next pulm rehab course which starts at the beginning of October as she could hear me wheezing more than usual. Will be perfectly fine, it's just the sudden cold snap that doesn't agree with me - don't think it agrees with anyone! Thank you NHS and the clinic for getting me an appt so quickly
4. Got a WW wm loaf for 9p, 8 pints of milk for 30p, half a kg of runner beans for 5p all now in the freezer, plus a dozen large eggs for 9p and a beautiful yellow chrysanth for 20p
5. A friend is coming from Yorkshire to stay in a few days time, I'm visiting her in Jan and we've arranged to go on holiday next March (not forgetting my week in Malta in 6 weeks time). I love retirement, and love my holidays
Sweet dreams0 -
Back with lots of proper pleasures.
1. Dr C. (DS for new readers) is in the best form he has been for a long while. He has some really good long term strategies in place, so I am breathing a lot more easily. I feel as if I've been holding my breath for months on end.
2. Dr C.s' best form meant that the outhouse got a mammoth de-cluttering, as did the attic and garden alcove . These are jobs I just can't do anymore, well, not if I want them to be completed in one week with all bones intact.
3. The switch from summer to autumn wardrobe and knowing I have enough clothes to see me through to next summer without resorting to the CS (or the XCatalogue shop, which is cheaper!)
4. A healthier diet, lots of MSE type meals and a slow, steady weight loss. Thankfully I have no 'need' to buy cakes, crisps, biscuits, chocolate, ice-cream and all the other things that normally de-rail my healthy eating plans. I used to get them in 'for the grandchildren visiting' and years before that 'for my childminded children', then snack mindlessly when in the kitchen. Then I would wonder why I found it so hard to lose weight...
5. Not having to have the heating on just yet. Let's hope we get well into October before this happens.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
