3) dumped our stuff at her (empty) bf's room. He's got a double bed but is back in dundee so we have free accommodation
4) fab walk round edinburgh. Even took my jumper off! 17554 steps on he pedometer
5) met up with dd1, sat in princes gardens enjoying the sun and a natter then had supper in mosque kitchen. Recommend to anyone visiting edinburgh. Very cheap and nutritious nom nom. Dd2 doesnt like curry (or eating out) but was quite happy to sit while we chomped then had tesco pizza back at the flat.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for yesterday.
1. Smaller son off school with a teacher training day so we had a lie in. Bigger son doesn't have to get on the bus til 8.
2. Went up and down brother's new stairs.
3. Went swimming.
4. Made Janssons temptation for tea.
5. Played football with sons and mrN.
6. Fell asleep within minutes - almost unknown!0 -
Morning all, been a bit busy. Chicken, I am sorry about the ring. My daughter ate the stones out of two very valuable rings as a toddler - she thought they were sweets. Sadly I only worked out what happened a while after the event. She also smashed up my Swarovski crystal (she always tested to destruction. ) I am not destined to have valuable things.
Pops, hello on this thread! Did you wear your red shirt? I wore red head to toe in Darlo and was the only person I saw doing so.
Re the doc recommending Buddhism. This isn't as bizarre as it sounds, 'mindfulness' is increasingly recommended by mainstream doctors.
It's part of Buddhist practice but can be done by anyone, without embracing the whole Buddhist shebang. This website explains more - Jonty Heaversedge is one of the TV docs, you'll probably know his face.
Frith, well done all round - school, job, quick thinking for ambulance.
1. Helping my friend out when her Mum's care home had asked her to bring her in some new clothes for her - she didn't have the money to hand. I gave two skirts and a blouse that suited.
2. Got this week's Aldi bargain that I wanted - a picker -upper. Extremely useful, every home should have one, great for getting behind bookshelves, etc.
3. Found a sachet of yeast in the cupboard so made pirukkas and two pizzas with some bread flour that needed using.
The pirukkas were much larger than usual to make a meal, rather than the usual buffet snack. Much tastier cold than hot though. Using the food processor to chop bacon and onion and make the dough they took no more time than making pasties with pastry from scratch - but so much more tasty.
4. Sunshine - drying washing on the line again.
5. A 30% off bunch of red carnations from A!di - double flowers and absolutely beautiful.
Not a pleasure, emailed SwitchSticks, as my walking stick - cost over £40 - broke yesterday. It is 3 years old but the metal failed, and as I am some 4 stones lighter than the max. weight it shouldn't have happened.
I ended up on the lounge floor with bruised knees, yet another fall.... This is getting boring.
TG it happened in the house on the level, if it had happened on the stairs or when I was out and about, I could have been badly injured in the first case or stranded without a walking aid in the second.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Computer full of probs. Have taken screen msg pics to ask about.
Will try and post briefly now.
1.Trip to France was absolutely the right thing to do - and it seems I took a few of you with me in spirit and vêtements rouges[loaned you my cashmere scarf, frith]. All OS pleasure friends were thus bienvenu/e-s:-). Haven't used P&O for a while - Pride of Britain is a lovely vessel. If there were 20 passengers I'd be surprised and thus we all had marvellous curve-form leather lie-down length sofas for do-do. Super comfy.
2. Notably nice crew all round. Maybe they were enjoying the near-emptiness too.
3. Collected the box of 6 free bottles Piat d'Or sans problème, rouge pour moi, but read on...
4. All day market on Wednesday in Dunkerque, so great dawn meander up coast, only 30k, and a happy day began. Now have splendid purchases to contemplate/cook, consume, wear. Take your pick: 3k oranges[gorgeous leafy fruits]2€; 2k coeur de boeuf ripe tomatoes 1€; 2 beautiful striped aubergines 50c[just like these beautiful pics;https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=striped+aubergines+pics&aq=f&oq=striped+aubergines+pics&aqs=chrome.0.57j65j60l3j59.19976j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8], 5k filet de poireaux €3; 3 melons charentais 2€ and a 3 Suisses little pinky/floral print Liberty-style dress[rather moi]1€, red tights[wore them@Spits next day-excellent, not fall-y-down infuriatings]€1.59
5. Treated self to caf!/croissant in market bar. Read local journal Le Phare, thus learnt that 1 et 8 mai will see 2 big vide-greniers/brocantes in Bray-Dunes streets.... OUI d'ac!!! Have bought rather well there previously.
6. Caught up with ladies in SPF magasin b!n!vole, wished I had room for a 5€desk and a cabinet - fat chance! - but still had a couple of bits. I like it here and their ethos, which chimes with other orgs I'm involved with.
7. Bought this year's calendrier for whole Northern region's fêtes du village,
vide-greniers. lotos, brocantes which Dunkerque tourist office sells for 1€. Excellent doc., invaluable for me and great for them, vide-greners.org site notwithstanding.
8. Arrived @ Grand-Synthe Emmäus for 14h ouverture. Lost in space/time warp hours flew till 17h chuck-out, but was nonetheless very lsd[NOT the other kind]restrained. Big chunky vase+orig.70's sticker, pr good emerald/white handkerchief glass dishes, retro wrought iron+Vallauris Capron tiles mag.rack. Total €8.p[ http://www.ceramic-signatures.com/index.php?id_page=1438. This site's a terrific resource]
9. Long eventual sun-setting meander back down coast down every little offshoot road, with many stops, gazes, binoc., reading moments, path-crossing with strangers, hares at play[iconic creatures for me, as for many], cloud formations, balmy sun, French radio giving temps further south of 1st-time 30C this year, chats with people...just my sort of besty-best times.
10. Pride of Kent rtn vessel was older, stuffed with trucks, but still okay.
11. Dover to Spits unaccosted by plods and I was surprised by my edgy alertness, but memory of January cauchemar remains vivid, because my car is necessarily laden for Spits, a.k.a. burglar's booty, to those over-excited young oicks. Apologist bureauspeak letters since were pathetic, do nothing to remove it. Border controls and passport scrutiny both ways very exacting and slow, noticably ramped up. I AM a furriner, après tout:-), but I never mind this.
12. Felt so strange to be unloaded at Spits in broad daylight@0500h. Luckily, hunches proved correct & French stuff flew out instantly, besides which, v.nice chap paid £200 balance and lovingly stroked his bronze dragons again before taking them back to office, then home. Said everyone at office was sick of him talking about them since last week. These things really WERE lucky, as trade was v. flat otherwise generally. Did a bit, but not much else and many packed up early, saying the sun was making everyone go out, not in, BUT shortly after that came a dramatic black sky change and fierce hurricane-like winds and driving squall, lasting an hour. The rain was even gusting inside Spits, making the usually favoured perimeter stallholders squeal and run to cover their stock, pick it up again, cursing smashed pieces. By the time I was packed and having first precious pause moment in car, pre-ignition key, it was calm again, c21.30h.
13. Rather lazy hier. Rang NZ Aunt for her 81st b'day and learnt Uncle's 90th is next year, not this...even so, may head there for briefest jaunt. Who knows? I love my dear Lally so much and things happen. Cousin's last-born is off on month-long USA rugby tour, despite still being at teenage school - a clever at everything clogs, all sports, Arts, music, academics, plus shy, modest, v.good-looking. I liked him last year, made him a monstrous choc-of-horrors birthday cake edifice which he massively praised in audible, enthusastic non-narp language, whole sentences!
12. Spotted a jumble/carboot on within 10 miles@14h...
13. Setting off for comforting, modest Banking shortly, maybe a free w8r0se cappuccino. On verra. Again, I thank M. for my chance and reception@Spits.
14. Other morning 'job', skin test @College Salon for de-badgering appt Monday. Happily learnt yesterday that it's half-price, prob. free, because of last week's !!!!-up, unwritten here as it was NOT a pleasure. Went for test last Fri, only to find College closed - no water! No plumber until Wednesday. Why hadn't people been advised? Little Missy at Reception was little Missy Lippy - 'Well, yz'know now, arncha?' - and that is NOT a re-write for effect. She continued to chew wotever, with mouth open, chat on own phone 'Hold on Chel, I got this [giggles]..yeah, well, she's 'ere', during this interruption to her day by moi.
Toodle-pip - and usual apologies for this mensonge: 'Will try and post briefly now.'
mhags- we continue to wonder. You have all our good wishes for OH, family, your good self.
btw- I declare virtual fellow-travellers' lists open for no. 3: 2 P&O daytrips, bkg tonight. Thanks again to Martin for this heads-up. I'll complete my Piat d'Or set with the white and the ros!. I've never drunk it, but someone will. These £23 trips are brilliant value.

kittikins - I am relieved that little springs of hope have arrived on your 2 major worry fronts.

Shoes In Fridge Day Alert!
Made my morning cuppa, put bowl beside it ready to pour cereal, missed bowl as texting a friend. Result - one overflowing cup of tea, fruit and fibre
The worktop and cupboard door, inside and out, are now spick and span and the cats thoroughly enjoyed their extra breakfast, even if it was on the floor and not in their bowls :rotfl:
Happy sunny Saturday0 -
Thank you for such an interesting post Ampersand, what a great trip and so pleased it was worthwhile. I wish I lived nearer the south east for trips like this. On the other hand I had a few dozen cheap flights to and from various bits of Ireland in pre-arthritis days, so I have had my share of bargains. I once flew to Ireland to fly to Cardiff (and back) and it still worked out cheaper than taking the train. Go figure. (Since then, the coach service has improved and I use that.)
Cardiff City could be in the Premiership after today's result.
Go Bluebirds! C-I-, C-I-T, C-I-T-Y, CITY!
Thinking of all the diehard City fans of my childhood who will be thrilled. I've read stories about one of them in the Press a few times . A journalist suggested to one fan that he risked arrest by the police for foul language , only to be told, "I am a policeman."
I read that in the Observer and knew it was my old friend G that I was reading about. Some years later I read a similar tale again.
Can I be forgiven for laughing at your cereal, Sparrer?
A friend once poured the kettle into a full tea-caddy rather than her cup first thing in the morning - and this was in her early thirties.
I went to put some food in the freezer the other week and discovered a Body Shop Sweet Lemon Body Butter in there, fortunately it had only been in there half an hour and was fine.
A further pleasure -latest Am@zon freebie has arrived and it's a goodie, a Jamie Oliver steamer. It matches Dec's wonderful food-processor freebie.
To make space for the JO steamer in a fairly cluttered kitchen, DS has been instructed to bin our old convection -but -no -longer -a -microwave oven that has cluttered up the work surface for 2 years plus, since its replacement arrived. The old oven was more efficient at convecting, so it had a stay of execution and DS used it. I've noticed he hasn't used it for some months though, thankfully, so out it goes.
We have a 'Steptoe' (that's actually his trading name!) who will hopefully collect it.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Good afternoon all !
Sparrer- did you eat the cereal after the "shoes in fridge moment"?
VJsmum - glad to hear that DD is better now
5 dor yesterday
1. Day off
2. OH did the shopping , which is lucky that someone was in as we had a parcel collected and the guy came earlier than he said.
3. Went into town and as I was on my own I had a lot of time to mooch about and compare prices for the stuff that I needed and saved about 50% doing this . It was nice to have some "me" time , I don't mind my own company !
4. Sat on a bench waiting for OH in the sun and sat next to a street drinker who was to be fair a bit fragrant, but that didn't bother me or him(!) in the slightest as we were both enjoying the sunshine.
5. Fish and chips from the shop.
5 for today
1. Sunshine !
2. Put some factor 30 on as I was gardening .
3.Neighbours next door but one have moved out "suddenly" today. I shall miss their dogs.
4.Planted carrots, peas and broccoli in the raised beds and the pots .
5.OH cooking tea tonight -he has shown me a picture taken of him which has just been published in a diving magazine. Not Tom Daly type diving- tiny Speedos and all !:rotfl:
Have a lovely evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Evening all.
sparrer - sorry to hear about your cereal, but I'm glad the cats got to enjoy your breakfast even if you didn't!
1) More lovely warm sunshine.
2) Spent a bit of time mooching around the garden tidying up before remembering that I'm meant to be keeping the weight off my foot.
3) Received the work parking permit for my new car, which the lady in the parking office kindly posted to me as I wasn't at work last week to collect it.
4) A nicely lazy afternoon watching various sports.
5) Easy dinner tonight - I'd forgotten what huge portions my local Chinese takeaway serves so I've got another meal's worth for tonight, and a third in the freezer. :money:Back after a very long break!0
