5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

katholicos I understand what you mean re overwhelmed by the garden, it seems a huge and daunting task after the winter but just take it slowly (as if we can do anything else!), one step at a time and it's surprising what difference pulling a weed or cutting back a potted shrub can make. I try do do half an hour or so a day, at the end of a week I'm amazed at how good it looks. Took me two hours to mow my 16' x 14' lawn this week, have to stop every couple of minutes but it looks so much better which spurs you on to do a little bit more
.
Oh, and please can I have my flour back when you've finished making the livercake and chuck-it-in bickies. (Blame chicken, she was the one who told on you)
One more thing, watch out for that DD, she's going for the dodgy hugs again - and even dodgier jokes! :rotfl:
CCP pleased to hear you're going back to work, home working is fine for a time but can be a bit isolating. Just make sure you stay off that foot, get others to do any running around if you have to. Will be thinking of you and hoping your next appt is positive.
PK glad you got a night's sleep, even if the painkillers did make you feel hung-over. Re bread and butter pudding, I love it, would have to have a trial taste before freezing the rest of the batch
MMS I had a friend who lived next to Broadmoor and they never had any issues. Occasionally the siren would go off and the whole village, schools etc went into lockdown but it was generally a test or someone had 'gone missing', ie gone to the wrong area of the hospital and the staff couldn't find them. Bedford prison is just off the town centre and I don't think they've had anyone 'go missing' from there yet. You should feel quite safe with all the security around you!
BoP Some people will go to any lengths to see 30 grown men scrabbling over a bag of wind. Strange, I'll never understand it....:undecided
mhags pleased to hear OH is feeling better, hope all goes well at next weeks appt. Pity you're so far away or you could have had my bread maker, I love it to bits but I mustn't use it any more because I can eat 1/3 of a loaf in one go (as proven this week)
1. Nothing much to report for me yesterday, it was a sleep day. Some days I could sleep for England!
2. DD had a really good day, she took her import, Korean Jindo (which incidentally I keep calling Korean Ninja by mistake), who took 4th in class. Not bad for her first time, apparently she showed like a professional. When DD took her out of her cage she was suddenly surrounded by two Korean television crews and interviewed for about half an hour. She said it was very nerve-wracking and she hasn't a clue what rubbish came out of her mouth! Now we just have to find the Korean television news programme which is proving difficult but luckily DGD2 filmed it on her phone.
3. Washed the kitchen floor in the morning rather than at night as I usually do. The bonus is it stops me getting to the fridge
4. The snow is holding off so far, very cold but dry so with luck tomorrow's match will go ahead. I don't understand 22 grown men kicking round a bag of wind either but I'm sure the fresh air is good for me
5. Keeping everything x'd until I hear from DS who has gone for a Very Important Interview today. Just received a lovely/silly/funny card from him, a typical DS one, always makes me chuckle
6. Watching trash television, Undercover Boss, but I like it anyways
7. ampersand didn't lose her post!
Enjoy the rest of the day, stay safe and warm0 -
Dodgy jokes? Moi? which reminds me sparrer if it's self-raising flour have you looked at the ceiling? :rotfl:
ampers sticker at the ready:p though phase 1still not moved cos probs with puters
mms is it bedford prison? That's the one next to my old school. Never a whisper from the place.

Evening all. and thanks for all your sympathy re my horrible, ouchy foot. Apart from anything else, it's really getting on my nerves now!
When I posted last night, I wasn't sure whether I was going out with colleagues: I did and I'm glad I went as it was a very pleasant evening. I've gained a new meal to try and recreate (lambs' kidneys braised in red wine, which even got an offal-hating colleague to admit that it looked and smelled delicious), and I even quite enjoyed the cocktail I got told to order beforehand, although I know I wasn't the only one who would really have preferred a pint!
It also gives me a late pleasure to add for yesterday - a colleague's husband very kindly gave me and another lady (and his wife, obviously!) a lift home after our meal, so we didn't have to faff around trying to find a taxi in the thickest fog I've ever seen - in places visibility was down to a few tens of yards.
And for today:
1) Woke up after 12 hours' sleep (I said I was tired!) to find the fog had vanished and been replaced by brilliant sunshine.
2) A lazy sort of day doing not much - I've fiddled about on the internet, played a few levels of a computer game, watched a bit of rugby, and... that's about it, actually!
3) Sort of Reverbed a penny - I'm not sure if it was knocked aside by a passing car or if one of the occupants threw it at me. If he did, he missed and I gained a penny, so it's his loss!
4) Received my new freebie slippers - a reward from a survey company - and they're very comfy.
5) Refried bean burritos for dinner tonight. I'm going to throw in lots of odds and ends of veg to make them healthier, then spoil it all by topping them with a mountain of grated cheese.
sparrer - very well done to the Ninja dog!I might try and watch a bit of Crufts later as, now mog's gone completely deaf, the yapping from the television can't bother him any more!
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -

Have a good evening all0 -
Evening
Pleasures for today,
1. Food shopping done for the week and £1.45 into the underspend pot. Just thought there should be another £3 to add to that as bought something for DD which she hasn't given me the money for.
2. Nice chat with mum on the phone and she is looking forward to getting the stitches out of her head on Monday so she can wash her hair.
3. Enjoyed a peaceful couple of hours to myself this afternoon as DD was out with friends and OH at golf.
4. Postie brought me £54 in rail vouchers today. Was a refund on my recent work trip to Wakefield that got delayed for quite a long time. I have enough points on the East Coast rewards for a return journey for 1 to parents and this will cover at least another person so will have to look at when we can make a visit.
5. Been invited to the inlaws for lunch tomorrow
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Greetings from a train hurtling northwards at 125 mph
1. Managed to get up at some unearthly hour without too much hassle.
2. Not too much in the way of delays given how complex my journey has been
3. Picking up a jar of manuka honey for dad to try on his ulcerated legs for about £4 from @ldi
4. Dad seemed in better spirits than he had on the phone, but I did notice a tremor in his hand I hadn't seen before. He is 81 so I guess I should expect it.
5. Lovely lunch cooked by my little bro (who is 42) with the nicest roast spuds i have had in many a long while. Much nicer than I can do.
6. Hopped off the train part journey to meet up with my sister for a coffee. She was able to off load her marriage woes and it was nice just to catch up.
7. Yummy M&S salad for tea - makes up for some of the calories I had yesterday
8. HOme in half an hour and BED
Night night all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

1. couldnt sleep last night. got up at 4am cup of tea and did the ironing. back to bed and managed another hour sleep
2. house tidy and 3 lots washing done and dried on line outside
3. heating offsupposed to be snow tomorrow
4. DS is in local paper today so picked up a copy from local shop for his "wall of fame" lol. Hes been in paper 4 times now for various events. Each time I get a frame from charity shop as photo frames are really cheap there, so will pick one up next week.

Tired this evening! Here are my pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Have cancelled my Guardian order (after a decade and a half) because I can't justify the cost anymore.
3) Got the beds changed and all the sheets and other washing finished.
4) Made some sandwiches and went geocaching this afternoon. 4 hours of walking! Did 6 caches, by myself.
5) Brother in law has texted about taking bigger son climbing next week. Says they will be taking the camping stove and having hot dogs. :-)
6) School friend came over.
7) Just watched Casualty.0 -

Cheeky miss! I shouldn't tell you that I actually glanced up at the ceiling when I read that . There's no hope any more...:doh:DundeeDoll wrote: »Couldnt find it on thedriving licence site but martin sez 2033 which isthe year i turn 70 so maybe leave it for now. I believe I'm right in saying you only have to update your driving licence if you change your details, ie address. I did when I moved here, wish I didn't have to though, it makes me look like a moron. Although judging by what I just did it's not far off :rotfl:
Skint a friend in Chesterfield says it's been snowing there all evening. Hope it doesn't travel this far south but the outlook isn't too good
VJsmum I've heard that active manuka honey works well on ulcers, certainly hope your dad gets some relief from it because they're awful things to heal
Frith what a lovely uncle your brother is to your sons, the climbing and campfire cooking sound great fun
nuttybabe enjoy your cereal
Tealady Hope all goes well for your DM having the stitches out. Congrats on the rail vouchers, well deserved.
If I wasn't so darned tidy I'd remember when I took my DM to Majorca and we had to sit on plastic chairs for 7 hours overnight at the airport waiting to come home with only one free coffee voucher offered. I'd claim for the delay which everyone seems to be doing now, but not only have I shredded any paperwork but any details I might have had, and the photo's are on the broken computer no-one can get into! Ah well, story of my life, we had a good holiday and I don't really want to join the queue of grabbers
Sweet dreams0
