  • My five for today;

    1. Just made Italian chicken and it was gorgeous! The first time I've tried the recipe and it will now become a regular.

    2. Feeling really calm despite the rather scary amount of snow that has fallen here. I know I am more than equipped to deal with almost anything. Had a few people laugh at my preparations, including my mum who has no method of heating her house or cooking if the electric goes off  she just keeps laughing and saying they'll be fine. I hope they are but I keep telling her its not just about if she can get to the shop, she has to think about if the shop will be open and if it has had any deliveries.

    3. OH home safe and sound from work. He had to travel a fair amount today and I was flapping about him getting stuck or worse but thankfully he is home okay.

    4. Hibernating for the next two days, eating food and watching films with OH and Ian the dog.

    5. Another Ian related pleasure, watching him prance about like a deer in the snow. He is four stone of pure muscle and he looks so funny elegantly jumping around :rotfl:

  • Just got inn from Wobbleade Centre. Bit covered, and why is it in the yard, I have bird marks, footprints and a snowman down the alley.

Yet, there are no paw prints from Moggy. Oh dear, he is on the radiator!

    Evening all.

    1) It snowed! Proper, fat, fluffy flakes of it, too. :snow_grin

    2) Further to BoP's post, I have to confess that I hate driving in snow - I can do it, but I can't pretend I enjoy it! I drove to work while it wasn't too bad but conditions got rapidly worse so I chickened out (no offence meant in the use of that phrase, Chickenopolis! :o) and got permission to leave my car in the office car park. I can go back and collect it tomorrow or Sunday, when the snow's gone.

    3) Finding that the boots I bought just before Christmas are wonderfully grippy, so I was able to mooch around in the snow with no problems. :)

    4) A lovely 'thank you' from a lady working in a shop at lunchtime - she was so bored she thanked every customer for coming along and relieving the tedium! :rotfl:

    5) My work team was given permission to leave early (well, more of an order to leave early, actually) so I was home by mid-afternoon. :j

    6) Playing around with my soon-to-be-ex phone and realising that I don't actually like it much - despite the inconvenience, I'm not that sorry that it's faulty and has to go back.

    7) HM pizza for dinner, using up the last of a not-particularly-tasty bag of bread mix - by the time it's covered in ham, mushrooms and cheese, the taste of the base won't be that obvious!

My snow's pretty much melted by now - I hope those of you who don't like it have also seen it go, while those who enjoy it get to keep it a while longer. :)
Back after a very long break!

  • Good evening all !

BoP- I wish that you had told my nephews girlfriend this- she crashed her car in to a wall today in the snow with my 4 month old great nephew inside. Both ok, car and brick wall not ok . Funny thing is it happened right where I broke my nose when my horse refused to "listen" to my instructions and walked headfirst in to a post, fell down a bank with me on/under him -Pilot error x 2:rotfl:There should put a plaque on that wall !

CCP - you are brave I wouldn't have driven in even ! Hate sNOw:(

VJsmum - yes Prime Minister - you are soooo not a forelock tugger . Hope you can land back in old Blighty ??? I have been thinking about this all day as you are leaving paradise on Saturday .I will get my new hair dryer out for you on the runway :D

PK- get well now - its the weekend !

    5 for today

    1. Day off

    2. Spent £4 only in Mr. T

    3. Got free sample of a some sort of hair oil in a nice jiffy bag which will be re used.

4.Nearly finished the tiny terriers coat . Hens "scared" of the snow and were only brave enough to leave their run when I walked up the garden they felt duty bound to follow.

    5. Nice fake away chow mein for tea.

Have a good evening all - keep safe and warm and remember BoP's
advice about driving and stay indoors !!

Enjoyed reading all that and playing catch up. Thank you all. My collection:-

    1. Home pedicure with some lovely products that were a Christmas present. This was absolutely divine, will have to make it a weekly treat. I am big on pampering, having joined the No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries thread a few years ago, but this was extra-special.

    2. Batch of Laundry Gloop that I made came out perfectly. It usually does, but this is so moneysaving that making it is a real pleasure. Especially when a bottle of gel that would do half the number of washloads is about £7.

    3. Ordering a personal care product online that was about a third of the price that I expected to pay. The product itself will save me money when it arrives, so a win-win situation.
No, it isn't a Mooncup - 10 years too late. I wish I'd known about those though, I'd have used them, back in the day.

    4. Our snow came early and hasn't been added to much in the past few days, so I was able to cycle down to get shopping with very little difficulty. I love snow when it doesn't inconvenience me, though since my walking and balance really deteriorated I love it less.

5 Sent off £10 today, having been approved for a Blue Badge for my disability, I'd never got around to applying for one previously, but I have struggled when with DS and we've had to park the car in a less than convenient spot, when a badged space was empty but unusable nearer.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

'Warpspeed', that's the word I needed. Thanks VJsmum, warpspeed it is. :D

    Five pleasures for Friday.

    1. Made it into town for sports coaching just in advance of/on the edge of the snow front as it crossed over our area. About three-quarters of the people who should have been at the venue managed to get there which was pretty good. While we were there the main trunk road back home (the only road, given the weather) was shut because of snow - unheard of. Fortunately, they got it open again by the time we left and we managed to get home in the light because they closed the sports centre at 3 and my DSs couldn't stay on for their own training. It's been a pleasure just getting through the somewhat stressful logistics of the day. Glad to be home.

    2. I made the DSs a proper, sensible supper (the one I'd planned) :T and I comfort ate my way through a cup of tea and an emergency (secret-stash) half-packet of Nice biscuits (Mr S basics so MSE :T) for my supper :o:o:o Bang goes any hope of the diet! I may have the other half-packet for pudding in a minute. I blame it on the weather. There's always tomorrow. I did have a healthy packed lunch though. :D

    3. Another NSD - miracle really. Helped having managed to take enough food and thermoses out with us.

    4. Got a chunk of accounts sorted.

    5. My hot-water bottle again.

    Sweet dreams, stay warm,

    B x

Tired! Woken up at 6.50 by smaller son's bus driver telling me the bus wouldn't be going, then every 10 minutes after that by texts from bigger son's school, smaller son's old school and from my sister who got a day off teaching! Then had a phone call from heater man to say he wouldn't be able to make it here to mend the heater.

Anyway, I would estimate we have 15cm of snow but it is drifting more than I've seen in years with some drifts (e.g around my car) probably 60cm!

Here are my pleasures for today.

    1) No school runs!

    2) Lots of snow.

    3) Less than 1 car an hour going past during the day and haven't heard any at all for the last few hours.

    4) Going for a walk with smaller son in the snow.

    5) Hot cross buns from the freezer for lunch and some very nice salmon for tea.

    6) Thought oldest cat (former farm cat) should come in for a while so picked her up and brought her in and she stayed in the house from about 3-9pm. She even tolerated some stroking and purred a bit. She hasn't been in the house voluntarily since she and her tail parted company and she came to let me know back in 2010.

    7) House reasonably tidy considering it has been full of boys and cats and wet washing all day. Stove going well.

    8) Going to go to bed early (by my standards) with a couple of hwb to listen to the News Quiz.
