Sorry to hear about your continued foot problem, CCP.
Here are my pleasures for today so far (Saturday).
1) A lie in!
2) No more snow.
3) Went swimming with sons and my brother. No one else there (not surprising considering the snow drifts I drove through!) so we played water football and polo for 1.5 hours.
4) Went for a walk this afternoon to see my sons and MrN's son5 sledging.
5) Cleared the paths of snow.
6) Made chicken nuggets for tea plus chips and beans. A small boy favourite.
7) Smaller son has been making cakes with me (in the oven right now) and he wants to make them into butterfly cakes.
8) Looking forward to Casualty and my friend is going to phone me back later when sons are asleep!
9) Letter from the CSA promising me £10 a fortnight from the ex husband. Must make sure I don't spend it all at once.0 -
Evening
Pleasures for yesterday and today,
Friday
1. As just missed the bus walked into work, was well wrapped up so got to work looking a bit like a snowman but a warm snowman.
2. Free lunch at work as lunch had been ordered but meeting cancelled so had yummy pasta with bacon and mushrooms followed by a piece of victoria sponge. Also got to bring some watermelon home for DD.
3. NSD - about time as well
4. Got to leave work early as nearly everyone in the office has to travel. I only live a 20 minute walk away but wasn't complaining.
5. Tried a new fish to us (Basa) yesterday and everyone was ok with it. Very pleased as only £1.99 in Aldi.
Today
1. Toast from HM bread for breakfast
2. Haircut and coloured today so badger steak gone dread to think what natural colour is now
3. Free cup of tea in Waitr0se after hairdressers
4. Food shopping done at Aldi and Lidl again with lots of fruit and veg bought on special offer. Going to make butternut squash soup and parsnip soup tomorrow.
5. Using up more of SO gammon for dinner and put some in the freezer for another meal.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
caroline so long as vicky doesnt fall of the maternity roof while taking down xmas lights in gratitude for bethany's safe arrival
Methinks canaries should have stayed in bed.5-0 ouch
1) reasonable shop in lidl and got rest of mum's bday pressie :-)
2) chilli for lunch as found a tub of savoury mince frozen um no idea
3) oh made lovely stew for tea and there's masses of it. Used the white wine wa bought for her party as we dont drink white well more to the point i dont drink white :P
4) decluttered and cleaned son's room. Not particularly OS but didnt cost me anything and looks soooo much better. Found secret stash of pressies which i had totally forgotten about d'oh
5) watched mirror mirror on lovefilms. We lit candles in our nice tidy front room and it was very relaxed.
Keep safe in the snow. Hope oh is feeling better mhags and your foot ccp

ampersand good to see you back, pleased you made it to your friend's birth in spite of the delay on the ferry
missmoneysave what a sensible name Ian is for a pet. Two of my DC's horses/ponies were Willybat (Willy for short) and Pea, it was so embarrassing calling them in from the field :rotfl:
Hugs CCP hope you get your poor foot sorted out very soon
VJsmum hope you enjoyed your Saturday trip upcountry, I'm told they're amazing. Friends have just gone to southern India for three months, it's still inexpensive at the moment so don't blame them for taking advantage of it.
katholicos what a lovely time your DM and DD will have in Rome. I took my DGD last Easter, a week wasn't long enough so we want to go back one day
BoP your #5 made me smile
1. Did a stock-take of cupboards and f/f, still have enough of everything for the next couple of weeks. (Neighbour went shopping this morning then came to ask if I had some cat food I could lend her. Of course I had)
2. Washed and polished the sofas, they're all lovely and shiny now, if a bit slippery!
3. Made a mouthwatering shin of beef stew with dumplings, and had it with mash for dinner. And there's more for tomorrow
4. The flowers I sent yesterday didn't arrive, am really cross because the recipient lives on a clear main road, so they can't blame the weather. Have read the small print and can claim as they have a guarantee to deliver if ordered by 3pm the previous day, which they were. 'Pleasure' is a lesson learned, will stick to M&S in future who have never let me down - sometimes trying to save money doesn't pay.
5. DS sent me a new torch, I've bought a couple which didn't last long (see buying cheap above) this one is very small but the brightest light I've ever seen. Better not shine it outside in case a pilot mistakes it for the runway!

Evening all.
My [STRIKE]five[/STRIKE] six for Saturday:
1. Another NSD and an NPD as well since...
2. Stayed in in the warm all day, including not bothering to get out of bed this morning but reading for work snuggled up under the duvet.
3. Lit candles and put on Classic FM while I was cooking this evening. I'm finding the news too miserable at the moment and music seems to be the sensible solution.
4. My kitchen is increasingly decluttered and I have some lovely, quality equipment that I really enjoy using like a good stoneware mixing bowl, a stainless steel ladle and my lovely new scales. It helps me stay focused on the here and now when I enjoy using the things I have.
5. Stirfry with tofu and noodles for supper and pineapple sponge and custard for the DS's pudding. I rediscovered my oh-so-easy sponge pudding recipe in the clear-out I did the other day and it's going to be a staple from now on through the winter.
6. Am allowing myself an extra. Watching the Winterwatch: 1963 Big Freeze programme on iplayer. I can't remember it in particular, although I do remember other news events of that year. I must ask my parents about how it affected day to day living for us. It was really interesting.
Sweet dreams

Hi,
That sounds so wonderful, might it be possible to post the recipe? I know my family would love it too!0 -
Hiya, yes of course. I can't find the original so apologies to the unknown author.
This serves 4 normal portions (or normal portions for 2 young adult men followed by seconds).
Grease an 8" pie dish with butter and put the contents of a drained large tin of pineapple chunks in a layer in the bottom of it. (I'm sure I've made it with tinned pear or apricots as well in the past but pineapple is the one I made tonight. I've still to try it with fresh fruit.)
Beat up two eggs with 1-2 Tsp sugar or honey depending on how sweet you want the pudding. Fold in 2oz/50g self-raising flour and stir to get rid of the lumps. I added a bit of the pineapple juice as well tonight to make the mixture into a very soft dropping consistency. Pour over the fruit to cover it. Bake for 30-40 min at Gas Mark 4/180C until golden brown on top. Serve with custard.

Now the penny's dropped I feel stupid, the baby isn't 'real' is she?
Broomstick re the big freeze of 62/63 - I remember going to the cinema in Maidenhead with friends and we had to get home to Henley in freezing fog. One girl and boy walked in front of the car while the other girl and boy sat inside, the boy steering, then we swapped over every mile or two as it was so cold outside. It took us 8 hours to go 8 miles, and we were 'rescued' because our parents had called the police out (no mobiles in those days). And I was grounded for a week! Happy days, ha ha0 -

Sparrer, wonder if that was the year when my mother had to make her way home from work in thick fog after the bus stopped and could go no further.....my grandad was worried sick about my then teenage mother and was walking along roads calling her name in the fog, in an attempt to guide her safely home.
