5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening
Pleasures for today,
1. Went out for breakfast with OH and DD, yummy sausage and egg sandwich with a hash brown and a cup of tea. Going out for breakfast is soo much cheaper than going out for lunch or dinner.
2. Popped into inlaws on way home and stayed for a cup of tea and slice of cake. MIL offered soup and sandwich but we were so full from breakfast had to decline.
3. Home and put RTC beef in the oven to roast. So had yummy Roast Beef and all the trimmings for dinner.
4. Made two lots of soup for lunches during the week. Carrot and Parsnip for OH and roasted butternut squash for me.
5. Enjoying a glass of wine. Whilst sorting out a cupboard found a small one glass bottle of red so just enjoying that whilst typing.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Here are my pleasures for today (Sunday).
1) A lie in!
2) Caught some of the Archers omnibus.
3) Bigger son completed his mountain of French homework. I can't believe how difficult it was for a year 7. I had to look up the word for "girl twins" !
4) Sons and MrN's son 5 had a snowball fight/snowman building/sledging fest in the afternoon.
5) Sons went sledging with my brother for ages.
6) Tea at mum and dad's.
7) Sons and brother invented a game of throwing things at each other but you only got a point if you bounced your ball/rubber/whatever off something before you hit your target person! Much merriment until dad came in and told us off!
8) Surviving the drive home. :-/ We had 15 cm of snow on Friday which was compacted nicely, then about 4cm this afternoon which was frozen and glistening. Add to that the snowdrifts up the side of the road where the snow plough had pushed it and it was an exciting drive!
9) Smaller son made some shortbread.
They're in bed now and I haven't a thing to do! Just waiting to see if sons' schools are shut tomorrow (hope smaller son's is, don't want him going 60 miles if the roads are like this).0 -

And I think it was you who mentioned the Big Freeze programme on iplayer, thanks so much, I absolutely loved watching it .Too young to remember it, just, but the trip back in time is fascinating. Off to buy candles and spare gas cylinders tomorrow (only half joking;))
Hope the recipe works for you, and missmoneysave too. It's not a very delux pudding but I reckon with hungry boys to feed in this weather anything sugary and hot with custard on it does the trick. :rotfl:
My gas cylinders are on order to collect from Argos tomorrow morning!I'm loving everyone's reminiscences about the Big Freeze on here and on the SHTF thread - the bit of family history you posted just now on that thread made me smile VJsmum
Anyway, back to the matter in hand. Five pleasures for Sunday:
1. Had to drop DS2 in town first thing - he missed the bus, typical! - but I didn't stop off at the shops so managed yet another NSD.
2. Having another success at a (new-to-me) recipe: vegan baked bean pasties. Doing that clear-out of my recipe [STRIKE]file[/STRIKE] hoard is reaping benefits.:) Both DSs ate theirs with much approval so that's one for the regular list from now on. I'm planning to make pasties to freeze so that they can be cooked as needed for lunchboxes/food on the go. More pasty experiments to follow.
3. Watching the snow fall quite heavily through the day from our kitchen window. The back garden is untouched snow and it all looked so soft and quiet.
4. Doing a stock take of all the household extras I am storing, things like cleaning materials, candles, light bulbs and toiletries, and tidied up that cupboard. Have made a start on the food stocks as well.
5. Listening to the Desert Island Discs archive with Miss Read. She had some lovely choices of records: Flanders and Swann, Kathleen Ferrier, Gluck... and to finish with she chose the handbag scene from The Importance of Being Earnest with Edith Evans - so lovely to hear unexpectedly. It still makes me laugh
Sweet dreams

Didn't manage to get out today as the square was solid ice first thing, then it snowed on top of it from 8am until about 10pm
1. Bathroom cleaned, floor washed
2. swept stairs with a handbrush and dustpan, rather than just vac'ing, washed down all the banisters
3. Made a tea loaf
4. Poilshed all the lounge furniture
5. Did a load of washing, got it dry on the radiators
6. Dancing on Ice, don't know what happened because I was too busy in text conversations with two friends
7. Watched Rhinestone Cowboy, enjoyed the programme but sad to learn Glen Campbell has Alzheimers
8. Beef stew, dumpling and mash for dinner, it tasted even better than yesterday now the flavours have had time to blend
9. Put bread out but it got covered before the birds got to it. The dog found it though!
10. Have just finished my book, A Shepherd's Watch, which I started weeks ago but then picked up some more so it got left by the wayside.
Hope you're all sleeping soundly0 -
sparrer, tea loaf, of course, just the thing.
Broomstick, Desert Island Discs archive, what a rich treasure trove of fascinating material. I listened to the one with Edward Elgar's sister (sorry can't recall her first name) and it was like delving into living history, which I suppose it was. So recent and yet another age. I hope schools etc use this kind of thing, makes it so vivid.
Another thing I love about this thread is it gives me or reminds me of such good things, thank you!0 -

No snow again for us
Just sunny sunshine, a rather pleasant day.
Work was okay.
Had chat with manager ....think we both got our points across.
Eating some lovely fruit: melon, grapes, strawbs
Home and fell in to a very deep snooze....thank heavens for ravioli in the fridge, ready just to heat up!
Last night I made sweet corn, courgette and ricotta fritters ....they were rather yummy and I had some for my tea tonight ( not a ravioli fan)
Also made lemonade scones, so easy and so delicious .
Sat on my break and read all your pleasures which was a nice way to pass the time.
Have a lovely day! Someone make a snowman for me!0 -
Hello everyone :hello:
AWOL for a week or so...I'm sorry!
My 5 for today:
1) No spend day (hurrah!!)
2) Received a message saying that my latest donation of unwanted items to AgeUK has raised a little over £13. Very pleased, especially as one of them was a Lance Armstrong book which DH decided he didn't want any more (fiction section, do you think?)
3) The ironing pile is staring at me. Wonder whether that's a pleasure or a pain?!
4) Found some lovely new recipes, so I need to work round putting them into my meal plan. Probably this afternoon?!
5) I've discovered the Clandestine Cake Club and intend to rummage through my recipes for their next meeting. It's a nationwide thing, but there's a local group of people who are slightly younger than the normal WI-ers. And it's open to men.
Have a good day all
