Well peeps, just back after excellent happy evening and dinner.
1. Epiphany! - you may now take down your crimbo decs:-) since none of you have dared touch them until She WMBO gave the word...je m'en fiche.
2. Have my mahjongg rack back, beautifully repaired.
3. Broomstick - I am delighted to say I have awarded you Best Post Of Year award for that perfect virtual sentence. regardless of any subsequent challenge. And yes -couldn't believe my ears as I returned to car, to hear that marvellous little programme. Sporadically listened again as I readied self pour ce soir, but have bookmarked it, too. It's a cracking listen.
4. Arrived in town in time for Bank, as online instructions said 'see Branch'. S, W and T were just coming out as I pushed the door. Oh dear! - closed@12.30, not 13h -and to think I had, uncharacteristically, paid the min. 2hr parking: twelve worthy shillings! Not to be wasted, so popped up side road to X's treasure trove, first proper visit. Have slightly known him over years, but had excellent meander, poke about and - the usual long story forestalled - have a battered Chinese bed panel, painted, interesting, convincing provenance that holds up...have I been stupid? On verra. Has to be for London, this one. Thoroughly enjoyed my time and as P brought panel out to car, he gaped at impossiblity of inserting another objêt. Taught him the mantra: 'It WILL go. It WILL go' and so it did. His chance remark led me to one of my little DIY vitrines - AND IT WAS ACCESSIBLE! I had 2 things in mind. We did a deal on 4 - very, very pleasing and utterly unexpected. He wanted more, but I've asked him to take no offence if I hold for the moment, while I'm still finding my Spitsonian way. Didn't flannel or obfuscate - was completely direct and it's good and right. We understand each other, like each other in an acquaintance/business sense and I know I have a keen, well-disposed contact.
5. W8rose cappuccino as I pondered the amazing good fortune of what had just happened. Met L. from next village. She apologised for current radio silence, thought I knew. Chimney fire! Compacted sootplate build-up led to smoulder and burn. Mess, chaos in and out, upstairs and down, compounded by failure of rural fire brigade to properly extinguish first blaze on New Year's Eve. Old tars and caulking then amalgamated as explosive flammable porridge and away the lot Whoomped again, after another 36 hours of penetrating, creeping smoulder. It was L. herself who woke at 3am, knowing she was smelling something very, very wrong...and fresh. Long cottage interior pretty much stormed by CO2 retardant, ash, fine cinder, soot and much cleaning, many write-offs and soul-destroying days ahead. Loss adjuster in a fortnight. All this while she has major health biz to take on board. Insurance will cover everything, she has been assured and that is the 'pleasure' along with life and limb intact.
6. For le Jour des Rois, that lovely fête:

Long journey, delays, missed flights ....still on the way but just typing from business class on last leg of flight!
Just showing off but what a pleasure!
Will catch up with all of your posts whenever we finally get home.....no idea what day or time zone I'm in but will be Monday before we reach Melbourne.0 -
ampersand I absolutely love the saying of the day!
mhags listen to you in business class, show off
Welome back Caterina :T
A belated good morning, no post yesterday as the bellows decided to try to remind me who's boss - no chance, they had their moment but I remain firmly IN CHARGE! Attacked with inhalers, neb, pills and potions and beat the b*ggers back into submission
To prove good health have just had a bowl of spicy, fruity porridge with the last of a small pot of double cream. It was droolingly delicious
Deccies down, sadly. I have to admit I'm so pleased DS asked DGS to get them out of the loft, even though I wasn't going to bother, as what I did put up was greatly admired by all - as a very kind friend said it was quality rather than quantity. They'll be going in the small bedroom when I can make space, so nothing lurks in lofty spaces again.
Am going for my Sunday treat of giggles with friends in the pretty little market town of Gigglesuede, so called because a friend and I went into a shoe shop there many moons ago and tried on, and attempted to walk in, very high heeled suede shoes while hanging on to each other and anything else we could find to keep us upright, which reduced us to tears of laughter (one of those 'don't know why it's so funny' moments).
Wishing you a happy day too0 -
Tealady, sorry to read of your loss thoughts are with you and your family, you can never pre empt the feelings.
Well we is back, had a great tie and it went by so fast. Just unpacking and landing and sorting out so many loads of washing.
I’ve just scoffed a bacon sarnie, and just about to chuck a stew together to slow cook, then start on all the washing and tidying, I will get reading on the thread and catch up on some posts.0 -
Sounds like lots of settling down and getting into the new year is going on...
5 or so things for today:- lovely music in church and luckily not being on any rotas today (lucky as I hadn't checked!)
- DS1 and his band playing happily in the garage
- DS2 had a good sleepover and is out with friends
- chance for a dry walk, hurrah!
- very generous contribution to Christmas costs from my mum (thought she'd forgotten! As if!)
- My new (still feels new to me!) tidy office is helping me feel much less panicky about the things I need to do, now I know what and where they are
- Also managed to pack decs away in a more organised manner (labelled boxes) so I can find what I want at the right time next year without having to get everything down from the loft at once

Anglesey was lovely, walked more coastal miles than I have ever done, but also ate the equivalent in Christmas chocolates and baileys.
As far as money goes it was a case of literally any food we bought seemed to be buy one get one free with things like would you mind filling in this survey for a free meal. It was also very noticeable that when we shopped in the supermarket it was all yellow stickers, a good habit we can’t seem to kick.
Everyone I spoke with was so friendly dispelling my “preconceived” ideas of the welsh.
We have come back a little annoyance, we have a chest freezer kept outside it “was” very old, and is literally choc a block with the animal food, anything like mince when it is silly cheap yellow stickered, chicken, rabbit etc you get the picture, all completely warm and the stench nothing can describe. Ho hum I will have to start again very rapidly as the animals only have enough for tonight.
1.I’ve downloaded more than 20 kindle books today a couple of free ones, a couple for 20p and a few from the Amazon 12 days of kindle.
2.Have a home for 2 more fuzzies, we are keeping the others, who now named after choccies, they are such lovely characters to have around, they really do make me smile and laugh out loud with their antics.
3.The smell of the stew slowly cooking through.
4.4 loads of washing done 2 cheat dried, 2 hanging about, and still more loads left to do.
5.It seems to be a lot colder at home so I’m sitting here with a tea, planning a toast snack with a fluffy fleece wrapped around.0 -
Evening all.
Today is one of my least favourite days of the year, when my colourful, sparkly Christmas tree and decorations stop brightening the place up and vanish back into their boxes.Oh well, it's only another eleven months until I can get them out again...
1) Put all the decorations away without breaking any (something that is far from assured for someone as clumsy as I am) but left up my snowflake window stickers and star lights as they're wintery rather than Christmassy and make the removal of decorations a little less bleak.
2) Took down my Christmas goldfinch avatar and replaced it with a more general one and, while searching for a suitable image, came across some photos of the American goldfinch - now there's a yellow bird if ever I saw one!
3) The last of the SO smoked salmon on sliced HM seed brick for brunch. (Even with a BM my loaves aren't always a success.)
4) NSD and NPD.
5) Currently making a casserole with a piece of pork which was a bit too big for one meal but too small for two - I've stretched it with lots of veg and lentils and might even get three meals out of it now. :money:
Skint - oops, I hadn't realised that sentence could be read so differently from how I intended!I confess that I've been sorely tempted to aim a kick at mog when he won't shut up, but I'd never actually do it!
mhagster - sorry to hear you're having such a difficult journey - hope you've made it home safely by now.
Caterina - it's lovely to hear from you.
PK - I'm glad to hear you had such a nice time. What a nasty thing to happen to your freezer, though!Back after a very long break!0
