    6:30pm The News Quiz
    (Not available)

    'not available' for me,too. dkw.
    What are you knitting?
    #########################

    1. Started village walks late this afternoon and not long back. I see how much I have to achieve. Several mini moments. Located The[sic]£1.56 million House of the felonious owner of The Jacket. That much? Really? Wonder whose 3 vehicles were there today? Later stopped by a chap looking for no. 183 in the High Street - he'd bought a pram there, was coming to collect. I didn't find it either. There are so many more public footpaths and lanes to investigate. Their entrances barely show. Looped around our ancient Church as I returned - suspect this will be a keystone each time.

    2. Down by Scout Hall, the hedges have all been winter-chopped. Gathered pruned snowberry stems to bring back. They're now out in an old Doulton Lambeth brewery jar, on little outside table, in its turn divested of other plants and now beside chair for brekkers/contemplation, if weather allows when I'm back from gym demain.
Was about to post a link for pics:

    Be warned?

    3. Whose is the blue bike, secured round a lamp-post at end of village? I keep seeing it, can tell position changes, but never see an owner/rider.

    4. Listened again to Tom Hart-Dyke on Gardening radio. As I once read, when progs following their strivings to retain their home were televised[sadly, shamefully, NOT available now. I know, because I wrote to him and asked several years back]'Planet Tom is unlike any other.'..he's a pure original enthusiastic joy, not only due to his time in captivity.
Have to get to his World Garden, too.

    5. I've never heard of Andrew McCarthy, apparently 'former Hollywood bratpacker', but found this extract from his first book[now he's re-determined himself as a travel writer], a fine thing. Okay, it's another person's Joycean epiphany, but it's good, very good, or is it just my empathy? His musings on Being a Solitary hit deep, deep, deep in me.

    Weekend goodies :)

    1. Friday night was lovely at a friend's and another girly chum came over, we put the world to rights, laughed our socks off and I ended up staying up chatting til 4am and sleeping on the world's comfiest sofa bed, much nicer than trudging home in the pitch black :)

    2. Have done quite a bit of clearing out of carp from the garage so I can put more stuff in it!

    3. Friends took the mickey out of me when I read out my "dumping you" text to OH and said that I hadn't done the deed, I'd merely shown I was blooming angry.......!! Oh well, turns out he was a bit peeved with me too, so good for us both to have a few days' break to think about things.

    4. Had a very good heart to heart with OH, calm, collected, both going to try our hardest not to carry on the way we were but to look forwards etc etc. Have got a couple of 'dates' arranged, and I'm not grinning from ear to ear or over the moon, but am hopeful that we can work things out and did enjoy his company.

    5. DD's out at a party and I'm chilling and avoiding doing stuff that HAS to be done by 8am tomorrow morning!!

    6. Great morning at church, celebrated a party, baptisms, yummy brekkie :)

    7. My lovely friend who was diagnosed with a very scary form of leukaemia recently has had amazingly successful treatment and is nearly free of it! :):):):):)

    8. Listening to some great tunes on youtube whilst I procrastinate

    9. Popped over to see a friend and her cute grandson was there, so we had a good natter :)
  • Good evening all !

PK - good luck tomorrow !!

Sparrer - I hope that you are feeling better???

Dundee - your cheeky friend sounds like fun ! Re the tramp stamp - if my Mum was yours I wouldn't have told her ! But then mine would be a hypocrite as she has hers done 11 years later ;)

Broomstick - aka The Chancellor ;) Good to see you back , I hope things get better for you x

    5 for today

    1. Spent the day mucking out the bedroom . Hideous hideous hideous task . Still it looks ok now - the multi gym and bike are no longer wardrobes or floordrobes (;)PK)Bare floor boards look dusty really quickly :( .

    2. Trying to get organised for hols. I dumped a load of clothes on the bed and OH will iron and pack them as he said that I am useless at packing (or so I let him think ... huh !:rotfl:)

    3. Made a chilli with meat for OH which I bunged in the slow cooker , made a quorn one for me and my DSis.

4 Made 2 little bread and butter puddings one for Mum and one for OH as he was "using" 3 separate loaves and had just bought a 4th:mad: .I won't waste it ..it's too expensive blooming bloomers and the one beginning with W. So put the "leftover" half loaves in the food processor and made 4 batches of breadcrumbs - now in freezer. White bread turns me in to the Hindenburg you see hence half eaten loaves..

5.Now going up the wooden hill to my nice clean bedroom with a tidy knicker drawer ;)

    Have a good evening all!
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A
  • Purple kitten good luck with the new job tomorrow x

Kittikins Be happy whatever road you take with OH.
Am so pleased to hear the good news about your friend x

Carrying on from earlier pleasures :

OMG I AM NEVER USING GLOSS AGAIN !!! The smell is terrible. I thought it would have eased after having all the windows open for hours this afternoon, but no :( So I have been surfing tinternet and have
    • sprayed all rooms with febrese bought on offer for £1 weeks ago
    • hall and bedrooms full of cut onion halves
    • lit scented candle for an hour (supervised whilst sat on bed reading a book - fire safety !!)
    • bucket of water in hall
    • also saw suggestion for vanilla essence but havent got any so had a lovely soak in the bath with vanilla bubble bath :D not sure that counts but left door ajar so the vanilla smell travelled into hallway
So now house smells of tropical/onion/vanilla/ gloss :(

    Any suggestions anyone ?

I shouldn't leave it so long between posts, I read so much that I want to comment on and then forget so many.

Frith - an answerphone message to tell you something of such importance? I hope someone gets properly carpeted for that one. Won't hold my breath just yet though.

VJ'smum - thank you for the weight loss encouragement. :D It shall continue.

Ampersand - thank you for being just so very interesting to read. You're the thread equivalent of an episode of QI. I love it.

Chicken and Oldtractor, (and Skint), thank you for horsey stuff.

Broomstick, glad you found your way back.

PK -may all go well, I'm sure it will.

DundeeDoll - "You was robbed". I hear Spike Milligan when I think of McGonagall. Also Terry Pratchett's Nac Mac Feegle's Gonagall.

    1. Very interesting chat on FB messenger with someone I worked with 20 years ago. I remembered him better than he remembered me, but it didn't matter. Both our lives have gone in completely different directions to the way they were pointing back then. We've done well - I didn't mention the fact that things are too quiet for me workwise at the mo...

    2. G.Neph liked his b'day presents, sent down to him Down South by Am*zon.

    3. Cut and coloured my hair this morning by myself. My hair is so fine and straight that it's not too difficult. Used the Wilk*'s £1 colour (which is now £1.09  lol). All well, have gone a slightly lighter shade as dark brunette is a bit ageing with my colouring.

    4. DSis has said she would like to read two books - both of which Am*zon sent me to review, by pure coincidence. One is a proof copy, so I had to come clean in advance.

    5. DS is at his GF's so I can please myself. Was in dressing gown until PM.

    6. Went in Mr T's yesterday and the prices appear to have gone down, or at least stabilised. Fruit for the week was decentish, some YS lamb mince was half price, and four tins of toms in the exotic foods section for a quid. Ald* open in my town in 11 days. Not that I'm counting. :D

Not pleasures - our buses have been re-jigged. No more direct buses to my favourite city, once again. We had that nonsense six years ago and it was rescinded after 18 mos. If I have to travel for work again things won't be so easy. We're down from 4 buses an hour to 2, going to the nearest biggish town (and 2 going on "former pit villages of Durham" tours in the other direction.)
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Chicken - dusty looking floorboards... my floor boards look OK upstairs (or at least they're so mishapen and old the dust doesn't show!) What I have trouble with is the quarry tiles in the living room. I can wash them all individually and dry them so they shine.

Then smaller son walks over them in his socks and his always very hot feet leave sweaty feet marks that are still visible when they dry. Then a cat or 3 walks through and every hair they moult seems to glitter! I'm looking at the tiles now and they just look dull, grimy and sort of oily and I washed them thoroughly on Thursday and they get hoovered every day.

Ampersand - I wanted to listen to the News Quiz in bed on Friday night and don't understand the delay. Do they repeat it over the weekend so not put it on iplayer until afterwards?

    5 for today (Sunday).

    1) Lie in! And an extra hour in bed.

    2) House reasonably tidy earlier although not so much now.

    3) Tomato soup and cheese on toast for lunch, a sons favourite.

    4) School friend came for tea. (Basics mini pizzas with king prawns and peppers put on to liven them up a bit and baked potatoes).

    5) Did a tray of brownies too.

    6) School friend suitably scathing about smaller son's school woes.

    7) Looking forward to bonfire party at parent's tomorrow (brought forward as the boys are at their father's for the 2nd half of the holidays) and to Tuesday in London. :-)

    That's about it!

    Glad all went well, Kittikins.

I'll be passing your way for my visit to Devon in a few weeks TILAMS, might just rescue your poor cat on my way back :p
Thanks Chicken, it usually lasts a week or so and am on day 5 so should be okay shortly :)
PK all the best for tomorrow, you'll wow them :)
Oops sorry CCP, was really thinking about so-called 'fans' like the louts in Barcelona who were trying to put their shirts on statues, falling over members of the public including children, throwing half empty beer cans in fountains, etc etc. My DS is a referee and a huge Pompey fan :D. When he was little his team won a cup every year for the team who scored fewest goals - if I remember correctly their max was 2 in a season!!! DD is sec of her pub team, put together from what we thought would be a right shower last season but they've only lost one game since starting. I went to watch them a few weeks ago, so although not really a footie fan attending a match was on my bucket list, and I might even go again when it's warm ;). Love pigeon pie and pastilla, the Moroccan version. Enjoy :)
Skint leaving a saucer of white vinegar in the room is supposed to work. Not tried it myself but I learned never to be around when anyone was painting with gloss, as you are now.
ampersand it's interesting to leave the car at home and just walk your local area, it can be quite an eye-opener. We don't seem to have time to stop and smell the roses in our own back yards any more

    1. Very kind neighbours, family, friends phoning to see if I need anything. Reminds me to look out for neighbours in the cold weather.
    2. Ch on tick-over all day and blow the expense. Must be ill if I don't care about the cost :o
    3. Did a load of washing and took advantage of the radiators to dry it.
    4. Have had time to learn about the new ipad, still trying to attach the mouse but it doesn't want to. However I won't be beaten by lack of instructions, and cat fodder :p
    5. Sleep. Love my bed :)

    Night night

    Just shutting down, but
Frith and dd- I recall this happening once or twice for 'legal reasons'.
I'm trying to remember anything particularly scabrous or contentious. I know it was a good'un.
pk-was going to rise early enough to post a 'Clean hanky? Clean everything?...good girl. Good Luck for tomorrow', but you might not switch on before The Off. So, here it is:-). A few deep breaths. You're competent and can do this work well, as you've noted before, so don't doubt yourself. You've been appointed on real merit.

    Evening all :)

    My five for Sunday:

    1. All your welcome back messages - thank you - they made me smile.

    2. The extra hour.

    3. Getting lots more sorting done. Even my DSs are in on the act to the point of DS2 (soon to be 18) culling a substantial number of his childhood soft toy collection. :D

    4. All of us working on helping DS1 get his pirate costume sorted for a party. Clothes from the charity shop bag, have been recycled together with loads of bits of fabric and haberdashery from my stash. He's looking very Jack Sparrowish in his costume. Good fun.

    5. Watching Downton Abbey with a big cup of tea.

    Sweet dreams

    B x
  • Morning all !

Skint - you could ask PK if you could borrow the old Caravan of Love until the gloss paint has calmed down ;) My Dad was a Painter and Decorator with COPD.. hhhmm I wonder why?? . Paints , thinners and the old paints, wallpapers he had to scrape off were made of lethal stuff in those days - Lead and arsenic and probably asbestos . Can you not get low odour stuff ??

Frith - I bet you don't wear stilettos in your house then :) Still it sounds really nice - we only have one room carpeted and the stairs , wouldn't have it any other way though .

Broomstick - :rotfl:soft toy cull :rotfl:

PK - will be thinking of you today , I am sure you will be a knock out xx

Have a good day all !
