5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

What a day! Here are my 5 or so...
1) Went back to sleep after seeing bigger son off to school. Woke up again at 9.40!
2) Popped into town for bits and pieces and smaller son enjoyed a look around.
3) Nice chat with smaller son's solicitor. He was laughing with amazement by the end of the call, after hearing about everyone's incompetence.
4) Got some books out of the library before going to London next week. Got a Banksy book out and we want to see at least one of those.
5) Just making a shepherds pie. Did lots of meat the other day so just had to get that part from the freezer. Got to mash potatoes in a second.
6) Off to my sister's 7pm-ish so she and her boyfriend can have an hour or so of playing board games with son.
7) Bigger son looking forward to Derren Brown later. Sort of tidying up here, fire lit etc so it is all set for 9pm for us to be on the sofa ready.0 -
Evening all.
Frith -:mad::mad: An answerphone message?!:mad::mad: Words fail me, and that takes some doing, believe me!Skint_yet_Again wrote: »Decided to buy a bookcase for bedroom (books all over floor) and opted for low budget @rgos... but item looked ok and fairly decent reviews.... big mistakesaid item arrived and no instructions, poor quality, loads of screws but none of holes match up .... have knocked it together but gust of wind would probably blow it over (not that I have wind in the bedroom of course
) ... have emailed customer services but dont hold out much hope and couldnt be bothered to send it back
 Sorry, I'm being infantile. Ignore me.
TILAMS - I just thanked your post of the kebab picture on the "what's for dinner" thread, and am happy to do so again here. They look fantastic, and I don't even particularly like chicken. (Not including our own dear Chicken, of course!)
Chris - sometimes it really is the little things, isn't it?
OT - that cassoulet sounds wonderful - exactly the sort of thing I love to eat.
sparrer - sounds like you had a great time. You get well now, though, OK?
1) Not very OS, or MS, or slimming, but I discovered the convenience store next to my office has started stocking my favourite type of peanut cookies, which are usually almost impossible to buy. I just have to fight the temptation to open the packet this evening, as I'm likely to end up eating the lot in one go.
2) Rescued a pack of tomatoes from the work kitchen bin, where they'd been dumped because they were a couple of days past the best before date on the packet. Needless to say, there's not a thing wrong with them - I really don't understand some people.
3) Tuna pesto pasta bake for dinner, using some nice sustainable tinned tuna I got cheap from my veg box company.
4) Giving in and setting the CH to come on in a bit - I really hate being cold.
5) A new episode of Wartime Farm to watch tonight- but I think it's the last episode.
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
B heck Frith, that's so wrong in so many ways
Your son has a right to an education, will they suggest a personal tutor now as the school that sounded so good the other day only goes up to Yr2?!? You poor thing, what a nightmare
Today.....
1. NSD
2. Course in London was great, really informative and, more importantly, flew by. With it being an all day course it could have been awful, lol.
3. Brand new shoes were great, really comfy, even when I had to stand half the way home on the train.
4. Lovely cuddles with DD before school
5. Free sample of tissues through the post, roll on my next cold!0 -
Enjoyed feeding a good friend a mostly homemade lunch, caught up on some local news and (pretended to be horrified) supped a few glasses of nice vino he brought.
Listened to some old songs from the '80's and couldn't resist a little prance about in the kitchen (no-one was watching!)
Made fake doner kebab 'meat' for dinner - the heavily seasoned sosmix loaf has just come out of the oven and smells very tasty. Homemade pittas will be made by husband when he gets back from the Pub. Meanwhile enjoying quiet few hours with my choice of music and telly!!!
Pleased as always that family (and friends) are healthy and well and plotting a surprise 50th birthday party for a friend. He's a very keen cyclist and has come off his bike a few times recently - we're buying some stabilisers for him and having them resprayed gold........!0 -
Hello Mayflower - that last bit just made me laugh out loud.
1. Swapped car and bus intentions this arvo. Banked by car and will buy Grauniad/oranges by bus demain. Lovely humour, good kind and funny kind in Bank, with several others. Dear S was there, beardy again - 'Another shave it off for charity in the offing?' I queried. Can't give the banter here, but we were all laughing. Young W's back, too, from another Branch where I was amazed to see him last year. 'Out on parole,' said S. I like my Branch very much because of lovely staff, Saturday opening and longer hours, £5 notes in cash machines, always time for everyone and many little tweaks they put into their service. A happy coalface and low staff turnover can't be faked. I really appreciate them and tell them so.
2. Found the last very, very naughty, ditto ditto special little mocha-choc artist's palette cake in Waitrose for L. Reduced to 99p, so doesn't count. Crumpets reduced too and cake needed company.
3. Took said items to L en route back. Kettle on. Rayburn on....mmmmm! it's a different warmth altogether:-) She and daughter have done another 2 trips to clear more effects. Post-mortem postponed, which doesn't help. Person said to them, 'Well, it all starts happening at this time of year. First cold snap and they all come rolling in. Of COURSE we get delays. What do people expect!' Frith, it's in a different league to your message - that beggars belief - but this deserves some special category un-prize. Who are these people - all public servants?
I've proposed something for next week, daughter to come if she feels like it.
On verra.
4. THE JACKET - I took it in. It was minutely inspected, admired, then modelled by 20-something son. He said how it made him 'feel different.' I'd earlier looked up the difference between made-to-measure and bespoke. We use terms in language lightly and I now know the difference. They are not synonyms.
5. Call to M&P as we haven't managed to get together before P's departure>Oz about now[a fortnight, a son's wedding, although he is gay and out now]. Will keep weather eye on M as P's strength has been his salvation and we all get on so well. Some slightly biche pretend goss and lots of arch fun, recipes, working with produce, good wine with company, gardening adventures, board games, shared opinions of certain key persons within our local orbit, booky/arty/pottery talky, antique-y stuff...sounding a bit like an ideal m!nage à trois.
6. Archers misc. - yes re: James[could be disposed of via NHS waste cull?], but surely you've not forgotten Simon Pemberton, the yuppie from Hell? Father, Guy, was Caroline's squeeze, but died early-ish. Whining Em awarded grudging redemption point ce soir, when atttributing her search for extra work and money to 'wanting to stand by/support you, Ed'. Actually, I frittered away some amusing minutes on Auntie Beeb's own Archers site and strongly suspect it's been gingered up considerably by their awareness of AA.
7. Wearing all jumble goodies today - olive green merino cable jumper and long jacket-y cardie, with long skirt [sparse tall red rose/olive green stems on black]and am snug and feeling good in them. Still put beloved NZ bush shirt a.k.a. 'swanni' on when I left car though. It is cold again, no doubt. A jumble p.s. - sold one of the Liberty silk scarves to a Melbourne mamma for £30...love those bin-liner deals. GOLDEN RULE OF JUMBLE - always wait to the end!
8. No more from France. Printer self-fixed, I'd not be surprised. Or revived avec un peu de ros!...

Hope you aren't glossing it white - there is a problem with white gloss at the moment in that it goes yellow very quickly - within a few months. My stairs and landing paintwork have just been done with satin instead. Colours are OK.
Mayflower10cat - love the stabilisers idea:rotfl:
Frith - yegods - words fail me.
Kittikins - be careful what you wish for
So here goes
1. A lazy morning - decided to find something to watch whilst having breakfast and ended up with the first episode of Auntie Beebs Bleak HOuse. Am now hooked and will work my way through the rest anon
2. Followed by a soak in the bath
3 DS went to see James Bond with mates who came back here for afternoon and tea. One is staying the night. I like to see him with his mates rather than that blessed X box and love them to have friends here. According to a student yesterday, they start to come out of X boxing at 17 - only 4 years left then
4. Laughing with OH this morning when I typed James Bong - I think that is a different kind of film altogether
5. Lunch en masse in M&S - and I resisted cake :T
School reunion tomorrow so will probably check in on Sunday. have a good weekend all
5.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hello my little lemondrops and how are we all this cold and frosty eve (yep, i've treated myself to the new miranda book:rotfl:
A quick 5 befroe i dash under the duvet.
1) lazy day with dd2 in edinburgh
2) met mum for lunch in festival hall
3) hugged dd2 au revoir as i got bus back to dundee with mum (who can get free bus travel) while she and BF were getting later train
4) front of queue for megabus but delayed very long time due to scaffolding falling and blocking only road out of bus station. Turned out it was actually just metal barriers for road works and noone injured phew
5) 1 hour late to book club (and back to dundee after DD2 lol) but they'd only just started discussing the book
Tattoo rather flakey today, but tis to be expected. Will miss my soak in the bath tomoz but healing nicely so hopefully will be ok for playing accordion tomoz at friend's 60thMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1
Great start, just 'ad perfect poached eggs, sausage and bacon from butchers, baked beans. Demolished. Gutsed.
2
Had wonderfood chicken wings to finish with yestdi, left overs from them kebabs, as the current Ms Sonny do not like em. But our tiger, has managed to bring most of the bones back into the chateau de sonny, so got bits everywhere. Note, our tiger, a rescued cat, is free to a good home. Buyer collects.
3
Went to high street, but bloody pongo and fish heads are collecting this morning. Shall have to go into big town later in week to give to a true Trenchard type. So I will liquidate the BoE Form 50, and get five BoE form 10 for next week.
4
Off to rugby now, so pops back later.

Keep away from evil. Our police are hanging out posters. Sorry I do not need a poster telling people who call demanding with menaces not to call. Just do not call. As for the emporiums, boycott those that say the event is happy. It is not.
Think, if it was a happy event, why does the Gloucestershire police put effort into policing these idiots?
mr S yesterday had staff dressed as witches, boycott them.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!
