Chicken I'm so pleased to hear your news, that's brilliant! Love the way the G.P said the report was a boring read - good! :D
Welcome back ampersand, I also thought of you when I bought olive oil last week!
VJsmum HK and all it's yummy food is on my list, promised DGD2 I'll take her when she's 17. She's 15 now so better start saving as we've got Ireland in between

    1. Gym was better than expected, got through the whole routine without too much of a struggle and felt a lot better afterwards
    2. Picked more runners and took some 'seeds', if that's what they're called, from a few to dry for next year. I'm assured it's easy...we'll see
    3. Cooked a dozen beets, had one with my salad. There's nothing better than food from the garden :)
    4. Picked some of the herbs, froze and crumbled them into little containers to keep in the freezer
    5. nsd, doing well so far this month (only because I haven't got any money to spend :D)

    Sweet dreams :)
  • Hey guys hope your all ok and enjoying the weekend.

Had a bit of an off day today - feeling a bit out of sorts and not wanting to do much (Shame it didnt happen!)

    Mine for today are;

    1. Had a wander into Walthamstow market today and picked up some really good bargins - fruit and veg wise.

    2. Enjoyed spending the afternoon with OH in the sun before he went off to work this evening.

    3. Did the weekly shop in MrT and got some really good YS goodies which is always something that makes me smile.

    4. Planning ahead for next week and have spent this evening in the kitchen (Oh lord, how sad is that on a a saturday night please?) making beef stroganoff, chicken curry, shepherds pie base, mashed potato, chicken satay and spicy beef. So that all can get stuffed in the freezer for next week.

    5. Realised that actually I have loads of recorded TV to watch - and actually I can because im here on my own - OH hates some of the stuff I watch so since he is not here I can actually watch it in peace! Hurrah!

Massive hugs to anyone that needs them! Im back off to the kitchen. Enjoy the weekend guys.

    Huge love to all.

    5. mum and dad have offered to give DS some spending money for his trip to S Africa and they are coming down to stay for the week he goes to help me with more decorating (it takes me a couple of weeks for me to paint 1 room for example due to pain in my back neck and hands and problems lifting my arms above head height.... my house is a bit like the Forth bridge - by the time I get the whole house done it time to start again ;) )

    6. Have come to a decision about work. Will wait to hear from new job application (interviews first week oct so if havent heard by then.... not holding my breath) and if nothing comes of that I am going to ask to change my hours to do more days but shorter days. • Good morning all !

Thank you all for your kind words re my back xx

ampersand - how the devil are you ?

Skint - good luck with the job application. I totally get the whole stress and anxiety ! I hope that your employers will facilitate your change of working hours as it sounds as if it should be a given really , as a "reasonable adjustment " if you are able to carry out tasks intrinsic to your role ??

VJsmum - it sounds lovely ! You do get about a bit don't you ! (will there be a tidy house when you get back???);)

    5 for yesterday

    1. Did a Skint and started filling out a job application form for a job I really fancy - less pay, maternity cover only but less hours and such a rewarding post:)

2.Popped my "floating ribs" on the "stable" back door leaning over feeding a hen a grape . Ouch ! I am soo accident prone :rotfl:

3.Made a mushroom stroganoff for tea to use up the rtc mushrooms , very nice although OH prefers beef, of course :D

    4. David Copperfield (not the magician) on TV -I love Charles Dickens .

    5. Decided that I am going to book a theatre ticket for my Mum and I for her birthday to see a play based loosely on Dickens "Ghost Stories".

Have a good day all - off to finish application form and "big" myself up :rotfl:
:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A

Usual grey morning, grey computer start, with thanks for return Greetings.
This wretched machine just upped and virtualled post into oblivion, so I'll start again.

Here, v.v.v.random and in non-chronological order:
    1. Swimming at Deal over much of last weekend after early ferry return. I never come straight back.
    2. A tree tunnel on back road from Dover to Deal, near Northbourne and lovely pics to tide me over: memory Bank and putah screen.
    3. Tours-sur-Marne and awaiting 14h opening of Emmaus in glorious, drugging, canicule heat, which I love, then bending to one sparkle, then another, then another. A totally surprising Reverbe haul of 2 English 5p's and a €10cent.
    4. M&S !!!!-up on car insurance means I'm still not taxed[they haven't updated to changed car, although my calls are recorded] and I now have to await another logbook too, so fingers crossed for non-vigilant ploddery. New-to-me car sailed through its MOT on Friday - hooray.
    5. Wonderful time in France, v. different this time, back in old haunts of early>mid-70's, with M and I quite unable to work out where 40 years have gone. House-mindery went well and our long friendship has acquired an extra something. Two thefts from my 1st brocante at Hyères, mistral at Jas de Robert the following day were soddish, but c'est le m!tier.....donc. The OTT Welcomes at Les Issambres, Guy-patron, have made up for so much. It's wonderful to be wanted there.
    6. In the end, I've coped, funded my petrol[did just on 2600 miles] bought a few bits back and on verra. I'm getting the frights over one deal, done with a lovely man from whom I bought well last year at L'Homme d'Armes - 6 complete sets of priestly vestments in silk velvet, brocades, embroidery, lace etc. etc, ...another on verra. Definitely a London vaunting needed and they are very dusty.

Next hurdle - 5 boxes being shipped<NZ, hopefully each realising sufficient to cover transport. Due late October.

    ampersand has to get busy.

Immediate next - mowing. Happy rest of day to all.

  • Chickenopolis:- Great news for the mri and exciting about the 6 month plan. sorry it's a bit belated.
Ampersand a belated welcome back:- I love exploring around dover and Deal. We've also found a new place over at dover I’d like to explore as I suspect they will block it off soon!

Good luck to everyone with their job applications, including myself on that one.

What a Saturday in a nice way, we relaxed got up spent time cleaning up and reading in the sun while dh did other bits n bobs.

We popped out and into Tesco to fill up on diesel with a 5p off voucher, and pick my dad up a bottle of malt whisky for his birthday and meandered on over. We didn’t tell him we were heading over as he gets het up but instead just dropped in with food/card/inkahol for his 78th birthday he was so so happy. Yet for his birthday we came back full of food and chocolate and loaded with gifts, it’s a bit embarrassing, he’s very generous!

My dad is obsessed with my TV, it’s the first item I ever bought with “my own money” so you can imagine that I’m not too young, the TV is ancient, and one of those that takes up so much room but hey you know what it’s still going and I work on it’s not broke and I am! He’s been determined for years to “upgrade us” he likes his electronic gadgets. This time he is determined found the tv, surprised he’s not nigh on arranging delivery, he checked with us and DH wants that “smiley feeling” of loading the tv onto a trolley with a big smile, how can I say no to that.
    For Saturday
    1.Sitting in the sun reading
2.4 loads of washing done and line dried.
3.Spending time interacting with the animals.
4.Travelled over to my lovely Dads to spoil him on his 78th birthday, so glad it was so nice.
5.Feeling humbled and happy realising that time passing between family can be a good thing.

    Back later with todays.

Evening all - nearly bed time for me!

TFE - can't think of a much better way to spend Saturday night.
Chicken - I don't quite "get" Dickens. I feel like its a conversation I am not quite a part of.
    PK - let him!! :p

Well, my day started off with a jolt as I rolled over to check the alarm to see if I had a couple more hours sleep - only to see that it was 8.10 and I was being collected at 8.20 :eek::eek: in the end I was 5 minutes late - and I'd grabbed breakfast. That was a rude awakening.

    So after that!

    1. Lectures went really well - students were very kind and I was complimented on my "top notch" lectures and my professionalism :T:o
    2. Really interesting chat with students at lunchtime. I feel I know alot about the Korean culture now.
    3. I am mastering the use of chopsticks
    4. Interesting outing to the fish market - really lively at 7 o'clock on a Sunday night. You choose and buy your fish then take it to a restaurant who prepare and serve it for you. I could cope with the raw sea bass and even tried the sea urchin thing but drew the line at raw octopus - it was chopped up, but it was still wriggling  The world's most popular spirit (soju) is extremely moreish
    5. Nice phone chat with DD when i got back to the hotel

I have a day off tomorrow so am going to do the tourist thing. There is a typhoon due tomorrow night - the worst for 10 years so I may not be able to leave on Tuesday - shame! :p I'll have to drown my sorrows in Soju
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • For today
    1. woke at 4am, not a pleasure... but managed to go back to sleep about 7am and slept till 10am.

    2. sorted out pile of paperwork for shredding/recycling. I dont know how it manages to build up so much

    3. took torch back to sportsdirect and got refund as it didnt work. Picked up some trousers in sale for DS SAfrica trek

    4. very grey day until about 4pm when sun came out

    5. roast pork with apple and herb crust for tea.... smells delicious ready at 6pm :D

Been to edinburgh zoo today with the camera group
    1) took the safari bus (open air trailer pulled by landrover) to the top of the hill - havent been before and didnt realise how steep it is
    2) saw lots of animals (well it was a zoo lol)
    3) saw the pandas (well 2 sleeping saggy furry things)
    4) took sarnies :money: but did spring for a cuppa
    5) called in at mr t on the way home for the things l!dl doesnt do - brown rice and sardines. Also bought a couple of tins of butterbeans to cool down the rather spicy sausage stew oh made yesterday, so plenty left for tomoz :P
