I always think the things you and DD get up to sound so lovely - like Swallows and Amazons and the Von Trapps rolled into one.

Thanks VJsmum, that's so kind of you, has warmed my heart on this rather dull Monday morning :) DD certainly keeps me chirpy, and I hope that when she grows up, she'll have fond memories of some of the daft, loving, things we get up to.....but hopefully won't remember that when she tried to climb into my bed for the millionth time last night, that I grouched at her! :rotfl:

    Good morning all!

DD- you do make me laugh - shaven cat and all!

Kittikins- up early too! You and your DD sound like you are great friends . I didn't get on with mine until I was about 25 , because I was a pain in the bum and Daddy's little tomboy x

CCP - re the reference , they may send you a script as a reference request.

    5 for yesterday

    1. Dozy again due to the antihistamines the previous day.

    2. Sorted out the garden, pulled up old peas, picked courgettes and planted some more beans . Had given up on cauliflowers and was giving leaves to the hens but saw a golf ball sized cauli growing!

    3. Afternoon of sport- enjoyed watching Webber sneak in !

    4. Roast beef dinner for tea.

5.Enjoying Nella Lasts Peace on Kindle.

VJSMum: Ah, snakes are a phobia and still are but they are very pretty, but I just can’t cope with the way they move I do freak like a girlie quite honestly.

Chicken:- Now your number 4 is just a classic:)

Things that we have kept going for about 3 or 4 years now while cash has not been spare have given up the ghost all at once.
The tumble dryer which was taken apart and had one setting left, which was good enough to !!!!!! up and soften clothes and get the animal fur off anything has today said no longer and given in. The trailer which is being used each weekend for PR has a terminal bad rip in the cover. The fridge decided to throw a wobbly today as well, the fridge came with the house and according to the paperwork is about 30 years old! Ho hum

So somehow we have to start replacing items and anything I look at on ebay just goes or may as well get a new one type thing.

    1.Mini layin as WFH
    2.Lovely Heinz soup for lunch
    3. Everything is out on the line and around the house, as rain or not it’s got to somewhere near dry.
    4. We have a treat as I forgot to put it in the freezer of cherry pie, hoping it will go with the 8p cream its’ one day out of date so hoping it’s ok.
    5. Trying to work out how to create budget out of thin air to replace the items that have shuffled of their mortal coil, a pleasure to at least try, thou I’m not convinced we can manage it at the moment.

Aaaaah, chickenopolis, I want your chickens, they sound sooooooooooo cute :)

    1. Massive cuddles with DD when I went to wake her up, we sang Morning has Broken, our traditional tune :)

    2. Horrible consultant's appointment re: stupid leg, but the pleasure? free parking! Hopefully I won't have to go back and see anyone for rather a while.

    3. DD's after school club was cancelled so we had an impromptu playdate, her lovely chum has just left and I've got loads done

    4. Enjoying a glass or two of wine with chum's mummy (one of my bestest friends), must resist the urge to drink the rest of the bottle, and save it for another time!

    5. Received my LV for doing a survey (oops, mistyped originally, must be the vino.....)

    6. Saw the postman had left a parcel for me - a product to test for the survey company, which looks fabulous and afterwards I'll get another set of LV, hoorah!

    7. Listening to some good tunes on yoooootube whilst DD finishes off a DVD

    8. I've helped someone out at work, good deed for the day and all that gubbins.

    9. Managed to rustle up a very tasty dinner for DD and her chum in minutes, phew! Those two are bottomless pits, they're always starving!!

    10. Managed to find a tin big enough to make banoffie pie yumyum, might have to whip up a bit too much cream ;)

1 Doc said I could be hyperventilating. Blooming ECO. Managed to get right into town, but had to rest halfway. I do go further on the way back.

2 Weird clue in crossword this morn, human made object. Silly, I do nots get this pc thing. The words are gentleman and gentlewoman. Man is the root and is included in both words, therefor, both are accepted. Still, when at meetings I always speak through the chair, and if occupied by a man, it is Mister Chairman and when occupied by a girl, it is madam chairman, not some come along swan phrase. Rite, world put to rites, cocoa and crumpets will be served.

3 What with the world this weekend, Chicks running riot and a razor taken to a cat. Has you lot been on a hen night? And then mentioning male pmt. what.

4 in old days before Ms Sonny had her cancer, she would have hers and the following week I would have a pretend one. She used to larf at my larking too much, she never noticed hers. Just said they could happen at any time.

Could they have been tufted ducks?

As an aside, can anyone advise me on, or point me towards advice on, writing a reference? A friend has been asked to do one and I've offered to help as he's not very good with words, but I've never had to do one before and I want to get it right for him!

CCP - yes tufted ducks they be !!! Thanks
I dont know if this helps but I wrote a reference last year for a friend and she got the job (dunno if my reference helped tho ;) )

    Dear XXX
I am pleased to provide this personal character reference for XXX. I have known XXX as a personal friend for over 10 years from when our children started the same school.
XXX is a good listener and an excellent communicator, outgoing and friendly, capable of interacting with a wide range of people from all ages and backgrounds. She makes people feel welcome and at ease and she is patient and understanding.
I have always found her to be honest, trustworthy and reliable. She is a loyal friend, always willing to offer help and was invaluable to me recently during a long spell of severe illness when I had to depend on her.
Please feel free to contact me again if you require any further information.

    Yours sincerely

Frith hope school meeting went ok.

    My 5 for today

    1. I feel well !! Despite waking up at ridiculous o'clock I still feel well at the moment, maybe its the positivity of applying for a new job and a change to healthy eating and exercise :p
    2. Visit to Dentist and no fillings needed :D for me or DS
    3. Food shopping done and kept to budget
    4. Stroll in the early evening sun, passed the pond again... can't resist the fluffy baby tufted ducks :D

I must admit that I never get that Monday morning feeling any more, as I work from home and aim to do at least something 7 days a week. Some days it's 8 hours, some days 1 hours. However Sunday is nearly always my busiest day rather than a day of rest.
Monday is a quiet working day for my students (who all work for the same food services based company), so Sunday is a good day to remind them of their course via emails and texts, or to pick up on any other issues.
So, no Monday morning blues, but I never get that Friday feeling anymore, either. Looking back over the various jobs I've done over the years, I've worked many Bank Holidays, a fair few Sundays and almost countless Saturdays, so it isn't anything new.

    1. I listen to the radio -R2 usually, though sometimes Jarvis Cocker on 6 Music - whilst working on Sundays as I find the TV too distracting, just love Johnnie Walker and Paul O'Grady, but David Jacobs is back too. His music is from another era, and not always my taste at all, but his beautiful diction and soothing voice are such a pleasure to listen to.

    2. I came across Dawn French's novel on a bookshelf (I have 7 bookcases) that I bought last year and completely forgot about. It's her first, A Tiny Bit Marvellous, and what a great read it was. I'm not a huge fiction fan - just Terry Pratchett and Maeve Binchy usually - but this was super.

    3. After a total of 50 minutes on the phone I got my payments due on account for 2012/13 on my income tax reduced by half as I've been overpaying somewhat. I also reduced the amount I'm paying each month by £250. I decided not to request a refund, as it's more comforting to know that when my income increases in August (hopefully) the money is already there to cover it, with no huge bills after Christmas, as happened this year.

    4. Shopping with son at Ald*. He does a lot of the trolley unloading, bag packing and all of the bag carrying for me, you see. Lots of lovely bargains too. I don't often get good yellow stickered reductions in Mr T's - ours nearly always has a shelf full of YS items still with just 1/3 off a few minutes before the shop shuts on Sunday. 75% reductions are rare. I presume the staff members benefit from this 'no full reductions' policy.

    5. Getting through the ironing steadily, don't know if I'll wear any of the lovely summer clothes now out of storage but I'm enjoying finding the things I'd forgotten I own. I know most of them have only been worn a few times and a few items still have the labels on. I MUSTN'T buy any more... I really don't need anything!

Get well soon mhagster and anyone else suffering...
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

I didn't have a particularly good day at work today. I decided to wear my new summer skirt - I was determined it would get at least one outing this year ;) - and found that it's exactly the right length to get tangled in the wheels of my office chair - I kept standing up and then stumbling as I'd inadvertently pinned myself to the floor. :o At least I gave my colleagues a few laughs, I suppose. :rotfl:

    1) A decent night's sleep last night, which is unusual for me on a Sunday night.

    2) A quiet day at work: I spent the last three quarters of an hour or so messing about on the forum - I may regret my laziness later in the week, but it was fun while it lasted.

    3) Received the super-cheap books I had ordered thanks to a tip-off on the MSE site. :money:

    4) The first bud has appeared on my sweet peas - they looked like they were barely hanging onto life for weeks, so I'm pleased they've finally deigned to grow and flower.

    5) Thai noodles for dinner, using some of the Thai curry paste I got very cheap from AF some weeks ago. I swear it's getting stronger with age, though - I'm sure the first few sachets I used weren't that spicy!

Thanks for your tips / suggestions on reference writing: I've now seen the form that needs to be filled in and it's very detailed, so hopefully it won't be too difficult to complete.

Skint - I'm glad I could identify your baby birds for you. They sound very cute. :)

VJsmum - no, you're right - I don't suppose many multi-millionaire sports stars hang around on MSE, more's the pity. ;)

Frith - I hope the meeting today went better than you hoped.
Back after a very long break!
