Congratulations to us Chicken, it's only the third time in my life I've bet on a horse, and it won! We're in the money...!! (Well a couple of squids richer, anyway
)
7. Had a terrible problem with the television this afternoon, quite worryingly the horses at the Derby had blue legs (and so did Clare Balding ), all the tennis players were playing on a blue court, on other channels I had a bear advertising blue rice, a woman tossing her blue hair around, soldiers wading through a blue muddy stream...
Sparrer - well done on the blue legged horses ! Your No. 7 so funny:rotfl::rotfl:Glad that you got it sorted though !
2.VJsmum - I am loving your description of your DS's torturous task. I am surprised that he has not phoned Child Line yet - mayo indeed !. Tell him that he is lucky as he would have been up a chimney 100 years ago . I tell my nephew this all the time , and he tells me he wouldn't fit inside one (he wouldn't , this is true):).
Dundee- ((hugs)) to you.
5 for today
1. OH laughed at his birthday card - "Mary had a little lamb she tied it to a pylon, a 1000 volts went up its bum and turned its wool to nylon "
2.Croissant in bed
3. Treated OH to lunch courtesy of Mr. T in a pizza restaurant . I feel sick now though as I don't eat much at lunchtime
4. My great nephew greeted me (aged 3)with his face painted like Wolverine (apparently).
5. As had a huge lunch , don't need to think about making tea tonight !
Off for a Bagpuss snooze
Enjoy the rest of the day all!:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -

DundeeDoll - I hope you're feeling cheerfuller today.
1) Had a mooch along the seafront to a free music / craft fair, which was pretty good but horrendously over-crowded by mid-afternoon: I gave up when it became impossible to see / hear any music without queuing.
2) I was very restrained in the face of multiple jewellery stalls and came away with only two bracelets and a pair of earrings (in an unintentional tribute to VJsmum, all yellow), and an email address for a local lady who makes glass jewellery and thinks she might be able to do something with the glass beads I made in a handicraft class a couple of years ago and which have been sitting around waiting to be turned into earrings ever since.
3) My DM asked me to get some of her favourite tea, which isn't available on the Island, and I found it was on BOGO 1/2 price. :money:
4) I missed the bus I intended to get back by about 10 seconds as I allowed a school party to cross the road in front of me, but caught another one which stopped much closer to my flat instead.
5) I've had to give up on the BBQ I intended to have tonight as nothing will persuade the flippin' thing to light , but I can grill everything instead and, looking at the colour of the sky, that might actually be a better plan!
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
So enjoying everyone's pleasures. Thank you all for sharing.
1. Horses... Angrove Rumbaba running so well at Sedgefield, I can't do better than to quote Lev and Heather his owner/breeders in their latest newsletter. "The Racing Post said. 'The non-thoroughbred Angrove Rumbaba is a rare example of a skewbald racehorse. This striking individual was well beaten but is not devoid of ability.'
Which I think in RP speak means, 'Keep an eye on this horse we are not sure about coloured horses (as we are a bit traditional) but this one could do better than we would ever have thought possible a few weeks ago'."
Then Camelot, the horse that is, winning the Derby. I did want Bonfire to do well, though, for lovely Jimmy Fortune (jockey) and Clare Balding (trainer's sister). Whenever I have seen or heard Jimmy Fortune referred to he is prefixed with 'lovely', both by Clare Balding and my friends in racing. I've seen him interviewed and they are all so right, Jimmy's just lovely... such a pleasant man. Clare Balding is a national treasure i.m.o., such a people person and wonderful broadcaster.
The way Camelot came from near last to first showed incredible maturity on the part of a jockey who isn't even shaving yet, if his complexion is anything to go by. Plus history being made with a father-son trainer-jockey combo.
2. Jubilee celebrations. It occurred to me that I am really quite grateful my parents chose to come to Britain and make me Welsh.. (and also British). So much to be proud of, despite all that there is not to be proud of.
3. Freebies... son got a razor, I got hair styler and some BBQ sauce, little things to lift the spirits. My eye cream that went missing in the post for nearly 2 weeks turned up.
4. Got £500 knocked off the quote for replacing two (large) windows when I said I couldn't afford £2100.
5. Some horrible muscular/tendon twinges and aches have been knocked on the head by painkillers, how grateful I am that they work.
6. Riding on the trike, when walking is so slow and painful, shooting along on this is wonderful.
7. Good books to read... bliss.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hello all.
Absolutely hissing it down here - all day. And sooo cold.
Hope you are all warm and dry and watching the Queen (if that is your thing).
For today
1. Kids went to Alton Towers - not very MSE though did get a BOGOF - the pleasure is that we don't have to go any more!!!:T
2. Instead we went on a train ride (mind numbingly dull - even OH got bored), had Sunday lunch (which is the pleasue!) and then
3. went for a really great 2.5 hour walk. Got soaked, frozen and loved it!!
3. Back to the warm and dry of the 'van for tea and - yes CCP - more cake!
4. Kids had a marvellous time
5. We have all eaten a meal at lunchtime (kids went to an "all you can eat pizza /pasta place, apparently DS had 12 slices of pizza:eek:) so cheese and bread and ham and stuff for tea - with some wobbleade of the grape variety.
BTW - DS might phone childline - but he can't remember the number. He threatened it a few months ago over something serious like having to change his pants so i said "If you feel you have to then you should" To which he responded "Do you know the number??" :rotfl: (I knew he wouldn't really, but didn't want to say "Oh you shouldn't" in case there ever was a reason that he should!!)
Oh ETA - no. 6 The "Queen" on Twitter and Facebook has had me rolling today - totally surpassed herself "THis is the driest booze cruise one has ever been on - absolutely gasping for a gin"I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
1. home made hummus now in the freezer.
2. fresh bread baking in the bread maker

Enjoy the bank holiday everyone x
It's not like this every day trust me. Being a student social worker leaves me little time during non holiday periods for baking. The Victoria sponge turned out a bit deformed as I forgot to grease the tin and some of it stayed stuck inside. It was tasty though! God bless Mary Berry and her wonderful recipes0
