Yes unfortunately people see it fit to leave their 'rubbish' behind. I was left an assortment of broken garden tat - concrete bunnies / owls / birds with the nose / tails smashed off etc. I am waiting till my house is sold then I am going to walk round the corner to where the original owners moved to and re-unite their ornaments in their front garden :D

I was left the breakfast crockery washed up and left on the draining board to dry  As well as the scubby toilet brush, a crusty-looking foot spa, ancient pot pouri with no fragrance left but lots of spiders, and lots of other junk. It took a day to clear all the rubbish from the house. However they kindly left me a pint of milk in the fridge - although they switched the fridge off and I didn't find it for a couple of weeks after I got the keys in the middle of summer :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Oh dear - and I was planning on leaving the blinds as they are made to measure and the half paint cans and spare tiles in the shed in case they need to touch the walls up or replace any - I'm clearly a soft touch and should be trying to charge for them...
    I think....

DH and I are buying a house and received the fixtures and fittings list and was a little suprised that they are taking the curtain rail........on talking to others, it seems this is perfectly normal..........what is your weirdest thing you didn't expect your house not to come with ?

One washing line pole... so we had a washing line attached to the other pole  weird thing was angle-grinded off so the missing pole must have been stumpy.... no toilet seat - but since it was a real chave argos acrylic job inset with barbed wire tat - pretty grateful.....
  • Excellent thread, been laughing my head off.

I have encountered a house where they had taken all the light fittings and sockets leaving wires hanging out which was fun, especially as it was dark when I took possession. Worse though was my last house where they had kindly left me the toilet but it was not actually connected to the soil pipe ... OK though as they had been kind enough to pack around the gap with 3 toilet rolls. Straight into the skip and off to B&Q to buy a new one to fit. Maybe I should buy a better quality of house in the future ;).

I bought this house from people who'd bought it when they were council tenants of it. They still had 'council house mentality' and wanted to charge me £15 for an also-ran loo roll holder, £100 for a fitted gas fire that was already listed in the selling details. They wanted £30 each for the sitting room uplighters.

They said they'd leave the shelf in bedroom 2 but they took it. The took the broom cupboard from the utility room. They took all the curtains except the manky, chintzy ones in the kitchen. They were going to take the curtain poles but left those in the end.

The one thing they left which i would have preferred they hadn't was a chavvy replica wishing well.

  • Disconnected the burgler alarm, cut the cable to the security light but left their MFI wardrope (urgh!), some decent crockery and spent all the electricity credit that I had to top up before I could turn on the electricity.

Thankfully, the avacado bathroom is no more :D

When the people next door to my parents moved out, they literally just got in their car and drove off. They left EVERYTHING. The fridge and freezer were full of food, and the wardrobes were full of clothes. The furniture was all left, and it was nice stuff, not just tat. Nobody ever saw them again...
  • It wasn't actually my seller, but years ago someone pinched two huge, beautiful stone fireplaces from the sitting and dining rooms (the house had stood empty for over 20 years)
Oh AND most of the original flagstone floors from downstairs 'disappeared' in that time too
I know because I've seen a couple of old photos of the interior.
It's cost us a fortune and about 4 years to put it all back - worth it though! :D
