Not at all, just found your comment and little wink a bit insensitive to those that have lost their jobs in the last 18 months or so and would bite your hand off to do your job, let alone all of us that have managed to keep our jobs, but have had to take a drop in income, lose our pension rights, or see colleagues loose theirs.

In the same way management shouldn't 'bow down' to the unions attempt at blackmailing them

hopefully if they can get both sides round the table tomorrow, more strikes can be averted. Doubt it, but here's hoping.

  • I still prefer RM to Citylink - a parcel went missing with City Link over the last week and they decided to lie and say it had never entered their system!

Never had anything go missing with RM so hope their current problems can be resolved soon.

so which is it? management implement the systems and situations that are causing the issues.its not the staff creating this.
we can only do our best,in my own office thats not good enough even when you implement all of RM's systems

just the other day(typical cant find the link) i was reading of a postman on his day off being threatened with being docked a days wage if he attended the picket line
    par for the course now.

Just a little thought about what someone mentioned in a few posts above.

Drivers for companies like DHL are paid piecework per item delivery (and no extra if you're not in and have to redeliver). This encourages drivers to deliver and leave items with anyone and anywhere (I had HDN leave one that got soaked last week).
At least with companies that pay their staff by the hour they do the job much more properly.

I work for Royal Mail, yet I use couriers where its more convienient (and cheaper) for me too. I do find I lose more items through couriers and often find items left in the most weird places around my house and garden than from using RM. It's also harder to make a claim when something goes wrong with the likes of DHL/City Link.
But for the price and their ability to collect any day from my house this makes it a lot easier with bulky items.

Some of the vociferously negative comments here about the postal strike and the actions of postal workers come across as misinformation and here say (Sun quotes come to mind). Delve into the real issues such as the diary of Roy Mayall (pseudonym) and you'll see why. Hence, the workers have my full support on this one. http://www.lrb.co.uk/v31/n18/maya01_.html

As for the management on both sides, I hope they'll belt up yammering on insults via the media and get talking to each other as in particular for the CWU, they're not helping the postal workers in this posturing.
