Give up on it for goodness sake.
Some things are completely Taboo on MSE....
Going a billionth of a mile an hour over the speed limit is one of them. You encounter the wrath of all the people who claim NEVER to have crept over the NSL.
Anyone with a Penalty Point is a peado, rapist murderer and should be treated as such, NO EXCUSES!!
I can drive on a Motorway at 80mph sitting in lane 2 with the occasional excursion into lane 3 to overtake,
I follow the intersection curve onto a different motorway maintaining my speed but find myself rooted to Lane 1 being overtaken by everything on the road. I'm the slowest vehicle on the road and I am breaking the law!!
I drive about 1500 motorway miles a Month so I am not a stranger to frequent driving.
One wonders what would happen if they raised the NSL to 90mph. Would all these militant pedants venture over 70mph??
Surely not, they shout loudly anything over the NSL is complete idiocy and the lunatic driver should be locked up...end of!
!!!!!! happens, points happen, if an acceptable mishap can occur (as described in this thread) once, why shouldn't it happen twice, three times or more in a short period of time??Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling0 -

"!!!!!! " only happens to those that bring it upon themselves, sad fact, but true, it doesn't just " occur ".
If it happens to the same person more than once, well enough said.
Breaking the law, is breaking the law, at the end of the day.0 -

first points were doing 52 on a single national speed limit, his vehicle should have been doing 40,caught via camera van, so he sent off his licence then after a few weeks he got caught again doing similar ( yes, yes, he should have leant his lesson i know) single national speed limit 50 where he should have been 40.
Not a very good example is it?
A professional driver who either doesn't know the nsl for a LGV or decides not to stick to it.
It's not as if the nsl has changed in recent weeks.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
See what I mean? :T:rotfl::T
Just WHERE are the roads these people drive on where no cars exceed a speed limit??:rolleyes:Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling0 -

just remember the next time your stuck behind a hgv doing 40 mph on a national speed limit road for mile after mile with a huge line of traffic following him and no chance of actually getting past that he is limited to 40.
40 mph for hgvs was maybe fine in the 60's when trucks were no where near as refined and safe like they are today. there are plenty of roads that it is safe enough to for these vehicles to go faster than 40. i would say it would probably safer for them to go faster, it would mean less folk being frustrated and wanting to overtake at parts of the road which are dangerous to overtake. thus saving lifes.
my dad is by no means a fast driver, his focus has never seen above 60mph he doesnt drive like a lunatic and is a safe and observant driver. as yet he hasnt heard anything about the other 2 offences caught on camera and i dont think he deserves to either.
9 points or even 12 points do not make you a bad driver. im sure there are bad drivers out there who have had 12 points but it doesnt automatically mean everyone that has them is bad, just as you say, unlucky.
imagine every crime commited was caught on camera and was automatically punshable with similar circumstances to how easily and quickly drivers are punished? the world would be just perfect wouldnt it?...work permit granted!0 -
and not many actually do stick to it, even although they know it and are aware of it. the police dont even enforce hgvs going over the national speed limit on single carridgeways up here. they actively turn a blind eye to it because they know just how much it holds other road users up and frustrates then which in turn can cause other accidents.Chippy_Minton wrote: »Not a very good example is it?

the NSL may not have changed over the years but lorries have, imagine the difference in stopping distance between an old lorry from the 60's compared to a modern lorry. night and day i would guess....work permit granted!0 -

Of course, they do not exist, however, that doesn't mean that we all drive like plonkers, with total disregard for the law.:rolleyes:0 -
When alls said and done theres NOT one person on here who has NOT broken a speed limit at some point in the last few weeks..(unless they don't drive)
Its luck whether or not your caught. Personally I had 3 points on my licence up until August.(Been driving for 20 yrs)
I went on holiday 3 yrs ago in my motorhome to Snowdonia, drove around 1500 miles or so and got caught by a temp speed camera 5 miles from home. I was slowing down from the 40mph section to 30 mph and was doing 37... Banged to rights, no arguement, just unlucky thats all. I do feel for people who drive for a living as its almost impossible NOT to break a limits somewhere..0 -
