I got mine at the start of the year and am delighted with them, the thinnest really is thin, certainly a lot thinner that the ones from specstealers.Love your Mum, you'll never get another one when she's gone.0

Went to Asda last week. My eye with the weakest prescription (-7) coupled with my astigmatism (-0.75) meant I was entitled to 1.74 High Index lenses within the standard price. So I picked up 2 pairs for £90! Unbelievable!! My last pair from Specsavers cost me well over £250 a few years back - when I had them checked by another optician recently I was told they were 1.67 - even though I had paid for 1.74!!
I think it's also worth getting the insurance for 2 pairs @ £18 - as although the glasses were cheap, their worth is significantly more. Should be receiving them by the end of this week!0 -
Had never thought of ASDA for specs. Cant think why! Have read all the comments with interest and will certainly keep them in mind in the New Year when I need to replace my glasses. Good idea from "The Old Bag" about putting replacement lenses in old frames too.Growing old disgracefully!0

i must say the service from Asda opticians is superb .... i bought the 2 for £90 and had some problems with one frame and the edge distortion on both. They had no problem with me choosing another frame and this came back within a few days, with 1.67 aspheric lenses (they'd been conical before). I then asked for the same lenses to be put into the other pair and that i'd like to choose another frame. They agreed immediately.
the same glasses would cost me £205 in Specsavers and £210 in Tesco, though they do have better frames than Asda, whose frames are on the larger side (around 53 - 57 mm) and i doubt i would have been able to change the frames with new lenses.0 -
Thank you SO much for this thread!
I hate buying glasses - my eyes are -8 and -11 with wandering astigmatisms, so you can imagine the thickness of the lenses :rotfl:
My old glasses are held together with superglue at the moment, and I was going to make an appointment with Dolland & Aitchison this week - I'll be heading to Asda instead.0 -
The eye test was fine
But they didn't seem to a) have as many glasses available as website claimed b) a lot of them were too wide for me (seems to be fashion these days!) and they didn't have that many less wide which fit me better so less choice - and then they said for my prescription (-7) even the thinner lenses might be thick at the edges!
They aren't ready yet so I hope they are ok when I pick them up - still reasonable for the price0 -

I had the same problem ... i need 48 - 50 mm glasses and they have mostly 53 - 57 mm. It took a while finding and deciding on a frame.
And the range wasn't as many as claimed on the website.
They used to do the Umbro range which had smaller glasses but now only Bench and Nike have a few frames around the 50mm mark. The better frames are just too big for me (and prob a lot of other people).
Wide frames may be fashionable but they still have to fit your face.0 -

i originally chose an Umbro frame back in august but cancelled the order as had 2nd thoughts on the frame.
when back the other week and noticed no Umbro ones. the only ones i really liked were the Nike so went for them. not yet collected them yet, just hope i'm going to be happy with them...0
