Yes, I chose a slightly "larger" pair as sunglasses. You can chose also which tint you would like.

Well £110 still comes under my family £120 'allowance' from SimplyHealth (which was HSA, which was Hospial Saturday Fund).

NB for anyone also in the HSA schemes, it's worth getting your glasses now, because the rules are changing - it used to be you could only get the allowance every 2 years, but this is changing to annually, so if you get some now, you will be then able to get some more anytime after April when the rules change. Theoretically this could mean 4 pairs for free* from the same prescription (at least that's how I read it).

*£20 a month out of my salary covers this and dental etc.

I got excellent service. I wouldn't have got this elsewhere i think.

Both my pairs were exchanged for new ones plus 1.67 aspheric lenses without any problems. I even chose different frames. One pair then had to go back as they'd put 1.67 spheric lenses in. So all in, they used 4 frames, 3 1.67 spheric lenses and 2 1.67 aspheric lenses for me! All within the old price.

Aspheric lenses give less distortion outside of the optimal (pupil distance) viewing area but they do cost slightly more. They're also slightly thinner than spheric ones. It's like going up to 1.74 lenses.

Apart from the thinner lenses, the glasses are not particularly cheap and you can get the same quality and spec online. Maybe even other high street retailers.

Does anyone know which 1.9 glass lenses ASDA use?

I got 2 pairs from them last year, 1 with 1.9 glass and the other as sunglasses with 1.74 plastic. Both frames were the same and i could hardly see any difference in the lens thickness.

My previous glasses had 1.9 zeiss lenses from D&A and they were really thing (almost as thin as normal glasses and my prescription is -11). The frames were slightly smaller though

Just wondering if Asda will use the zeiss lantals if you ask them or are all 1.9 lenses the same thickness?

I'm wondering the same.

Since buying from Asda last November, I've bought glasses from online retailers with normal 1.49 (1.50) lenses and these are no thicker than the 1.67 from Asda (which are meant to be around 30% thinner than standard 1.49).

All the lenses in all the glasses seem the same thickness!

Why are the Asda lenses not thinner? In fact, their lenses are no thinner than my standard ones from 10 years ago .....

As I have mentioned before I went to ASDA and got two complete pairs of varifocals, 1st one was £95, the second £75. The test was extremely thorough and I cannot fault the customer service during the visit and when I went to pick the glasses up. Both have modern frames and there was a large selection of frames to choose from. I wasnt rushed to make a choice. I had previously been to Specsavers to see what they had and immediately they started a "hard sell", well it didnt work!

Is the £95 varifocals lenses Ok ?? I went last week but was told £95 one give quite a narrow window/vision so was advice to buy the more expensive Essilor lenses £ 195. It cost total £250 with eyes test and transition. Still waiting to pick it up but I am more concern about the little change of my prescription (only by -25 on the right eye); I just realize until I check my last prescription at home and did ring back to speak to the optician query the need of spending £250 for such small changes but she insist it will give better vision. Any advice??

In spite of this , I still think they are good value compare to other high street store if you need one.
