  • omg, i cant recommend Asda opticians enough. I went there, with my prescription, choose two pairs of frames and paid around £120 for two pairs of glasses. My prescription is -6 and I paid extra £30 for the lenses to be 1.74 (they were giving 1.6 for my prescription). Not bad to say that my last pair of glasses from D&A were £200 and that included a 50% total discount for being a contact lense customer.

    Go to Asda! xx
Lovin Boots and other bargainous places!

I am really shortsighted & therefore have a high prescription. I have been considering going to ASDA, but am unsure how thin they will be able to get my lenses.

Does anyone else have over -12 sight who have been happy with ASDA lenses & frames?

I'm about -12 in each eye, although -5 of each is an astigmatism, which I have been told is very large and just on the edge of what Asda includes in this deal. I've had 4 pairs of glasses from them now and have been delighted with them all. They all have 1.9 hi-index glass lenses, and not only are they very thin - can hardly see any lens over the frames! - they have given me the best vision I've ever had. I can't wear contact lenses now so I was over the moon to get these. Like Finlay I have gone for the smaller frames and am wearing the Golddigga pair now. They would have cost around £500 on the high street. Go for it!
  • Thanks. Think I'll visit my local ASDA after easter :)

Sadly there is no Asda opticians in my area :( or I would be taking up the offer as my lens are expensive from my local optician.

The nearest Asda with an optician to me is about an hours drive away - but I think it sounds like it would be worth the trip!

I have some frames which I love but one of the lens is broken - does anyone know if ASDA will replaces lens in existing frames? I have been quoted 140 pounds by Boots! - seems expensive for distance glasses......

How long do they roughly take to make? I have high index lenses 10 plus or minus i cant remember but im short sighted! I will have to drive a way to get to my local but just wondered how long it would take on average for it to arrive in store from the date ordered.

7-10 working days but normally a bit quicker than that.
  • This post dosen't only refer to ASDA but to every optician I have ever got my glasses from.

Why does my glasses always come back with half of the lens sticking through the front of the frames? I know I am extremely short sighted, but since I always buy plastic frames with wide arms to hide the thickness, there's absolutly no conceivable reason for this. I always have my lense thinned down aswell.

It upsets me everytime I have collected new glasses & I can't believe anyone would be expected to wear glasses like this. They have now had to be sent back to get new lenses put in & I'm no doubt going to have to wait another few weeks for them to be delivered back to ASDA.
  • I need some new glasses and I have looked at the Asda Optician web site and they are doing some very good deals on Verifocal glasses. They are charging £95 for designer Verifocal. Has anyone purchased these from Asda and can inform what the quality of the lens is like. I think they use Shamir glass lens.
