    Hi

Has anyone has children fitted with glasses from Asda? Also contact lenses

My DS is 15 and needs new specs every 4-5 months and even the free ones cost £55 because we have the thin lenses protected and that is with 50% off because of age and type of lens required. We have been recommende to trial hard contacts also as he has Keratoconus
  • Hi all,

One of my eyes is -6.75 and the other is -8. As these fall into different lense brackets, do you think they would offer me the thinnest of the two lenses?

    Thanks.

Yes. They will use the same lense (higher index) for both eyes. At least that happened to me.

They may not use the same index lens for each eye, quite often in our place people will order different index lenses to balance the lens thickness (so they dont have one thicker than the other) and it doesnt impair their vision at all. Having said that I actually have no idea how they work!

Do their hi index lenses come multi-coated or just scratch resistant? What do they charge if people want to upgrade to thinner lenses than what is supplied? If I was a +/-7.00 I wouldnt be happy with 1.67 personally, thats what I have now as a -4.00. Just out of interest, I have checked their website but theres no price list up :)

I haven't bought contact lenses from Asda but if I have to say that if you've never been fitted with hard lenses you need to go to a proper contact lens practitioner because it isn't easy to get right. I wear gas permeable (hard) lenses and the first time they were fitted I went through 6 pairs before we got the right set. They should offer free replacements until they find the right one.

My daughter is 14 and has just had a contact lense consultation at Asda (minworth). I can thoroughly recommend them- my son has been with them for several years too and the service is fantastic (although one of the reception assistants customer service abilities leave a little to be desired!!).
To sum up- yes definately try Asda!
    lovin' this site!
