Anyone any ideas on this as last time I tried Varifocals I couldnt get on too well with them and went back to single vision. Cant cope with these now so need to bite the bullet and try varifocals again. So Tesco mid level or Asda's?

    Help please! if you can
The Tesco website says varifocals "coming soon" so I guess they are not available yet.

I am having some problems with my new glasses and am about to take them back. I will let you know how I get on.

I'd be interested to know how you get on. I bought two pairs from Asda, one pair are fine, the other pair which are sunglasses are not. I have only just started to wear the sunglasses and I can't read through them, the reading bit of the varifocal is tiny and you have to keep your head in a fixed position.

As I bought them a long time ago I wonder if they will do anything.

You get what you pay for though, cheaper varifocals have a much more limited reading area and more peripheral distortions. If you have never had a better varifocal you won't know what you are missing so may just accept it but once you have had better you will miss it - depends what is more important paying less but getting less good vision or paying more and getting better vision. Not a right or wrong just personal choice.

    BUMPING ....

Has anybody else had problems with their Asda spectacles?

Both Marley and I took advantage of this offer, we each got two pairs. On one of his, the side pin has fallen out (so the frame is no longer complete at the side) and the lens is loose, it needs a new pin. And today, one of the nose-pieces has fallen off my main pair (goodness alone knows where).

Neither of us are particularly rough with our specs, although we do wear them 16odd hours a day.

Are we reaping the disadvantages of buying cheap? Or are we just unlucky?

Has anybody else had to take theirs back for repair within a year?

Screws coming loose and nose pads going yucky or falling off is perfectly normal.
Just go back to an ASDA and they'll put in a new screw and replace the nose pad.

Just think of it as like a button getting loose on a shirt you wear every single day. It will come loose/fall off it you have to use it all the time.

Thanks for that. I've been wearing specs for 30 years, and I've never had a nose-piece fall off until now!

I had an eye test at Asda today and was told that my sight in one eye has deteriorated but only marginally so to think whether it is worth paying for new specs. I like the fact that there is no pressure to buy. I didn't like him mentioning that there are signs of hypertension behind my eyes though

OH was not happy with the glasses he bought, varifocals, which have a really small area for reading (which is what he needed them for most), also not great quality overall. Compared to what he normally get elsewhere not worth the money, so think twice if you are after buying glasses and look around before deciding.
