I was delighted with the price/lens quality. The frames are great but when you have eyes like ours (-13, -11) I dont really care as long as the vision is good.

My previous set ( 4 years ago) I have been nursing (tho I got 341, third pair were 'normal' lenses- ie bottle tops) were a nudge off £280 - and I'd been persevering with the bottle tops as I just couldn't splurge the same again. I almost ran the 80 miles to my nearest Asda Optician.:D

I'll be going back later this year for another 2, as I'm pretty sure when they review this it'll get 'amended' for us, we'll have to pay extra for thinnning like everywhere else.

My prescription is -3.75 in one eye and -3.50 in the other. What sort of lenses am I likely to get? I've just cancelled an order I made a couple of days ago with Specsaver after reading this thread. Also I wear varifocals and Specsaver do 3 different kinds of them which go up in price according to the width of the varifocal part in the lens. Do Asda do different types of varifocal? Thanks.

Forgot to add that Specsavers charge £30 for each pair of glasses with anti-reflective coating, but noticed it is standard on Asda lenses.

Thanks for the responses. Am so looking forward to getting them. I am having to wear my old glasses whih are so scratched I can hardly see! I still can't believe the price, I keep going on about it to anyone who knows me!!

I hope they're as welcome as mine were.

Just knowing I could go out and repeat the whole experience tomorrow if need be if a weight off our (financial) shoulders.

I placed my order yesterday at Asda, Crewe. £130 is getting me 2 pairs of glasses - one a pair with 1.7 tinted lenses to use as sunglasses and the other 1.67 with photo-chromic lenses. My prescription is -7.25 and -6.75 so need thin lenses. I used to pay over £200 for 1.45 thin glass when I first wore glasses. Asda assistant told me the 2 pairs for £90 deal is permanent.

Word of caution before ordering look for glasses which require a blank of size 70 or less (the clue is the last 2 digits on the long number on the frames grey tag) or else there is a further £40 per pair to pay. Ask the assistants to explain.

Just wanted to say I saw this thread a couple of weeks ago so went and got my free eye test at vision express with a voucher they put in local paper, then took my prescription over to Asda. The choice of frames was reasonable, unfortunately my favourite was out of stock but I found 2 that seemed ok. Went and collected today and I'm thrilled, I have a pair of JIGSAW "BARCELONA" and if you google that it will show the frame, and the second pair were vision by conran which I originally thought was mens but they looked good on so must be unisex. They came from the womens side. I paid £10 to have them made up as sunglasses. Both pairs come in lovely boxes and I'm chuffed to bits. My lenses are bog standard so I paid £100 for a pair of clear and a pair of shades, chuffed to bits many thanks to all who have left encouraging posts on here it was well worth it for me and I'll be sending everyone I know down there for their next glasses!

I think it has changed slightly as you now pay more for varifocal lenses.
