Asda Opticians only £50 for Complete glasses INC Thinnest Lenses for NO EXTRA COST

Usually we get our glasses in India or Thailand, (but have bought from specsavers in the past too), but thinking this was a good offer OH got a pair of varifocals. In our opinion they are no-where as good as any we'd got elsewhere - the quality of the lenses just isn't that good. We wouldn't purchase again from Asda.

I'm absolutely delighted with mine :j The choice of frames wasn't fantastic but tbh I find that sometimes when confronted with rows & rows of frames I find it hard to choose anyway .;)

looking at the amount of lenses on the list of exclusions from the complete pricing, makes me wonder are any included?!?!?

i was hoping to get thinner lenses included in the price...

They decide your lens thickness based on your prescription, so for blind as a bat peeps like me (double figures) I got 2 with 1.9 lenses for £90....less than half the price of a single pair for me in the last 10 years +.:)

They have a chart near their computers normally when you go to place an order that tells them what index to give you depending on the prescription. So my best eye was -5.50 giving my 1.67 index.... Didn't bother with 2 for £70 as already got 1 pair as a spare, but paid the extra £30 for making them light reactive, will be handy now with the sun out.

i'm in the region of -3.75 to -4.25 with quite abit of astigmatism in one eye, not sure what index they'll give me. had hoped for 1.67 but will probably get 1.60 i guess???

When I went into Asda I asked about the quality of their varifocals as Tesco have 3 different quality levels. I was told that Asda only has 1 level which is equivelant to Tesco top level.

Anyone any ideas on this as last time I tried Varifocals I couldnt get on too well with them and went back to single vision. Cant cope with these now so need to bite the bullet and try varifocals again. So Tesco mid level or Asda's?

Thanks to OP, I went to Asda in Watford for new specs. I'm close to bat, being -10 ish, plus I'm now ancient enough to need help with reading (unless I take off my glasses, close one eye and hold the book half an inch away..). I was quoted £470 in Boots for one pair of varifocals with a pretty standard frame. I have to admit I was a bit dubious about the Asda deal, thinking it was too good to be true. It isn't. I am extremely impressed. I had a thorough eye test, a choice of frames and really helpful staff who were happy to cost different options for me. I picked up my two pairs of varifocals today, for a total cost of £151 (including c£30 contribution from NHS) and I'm delighted. The lenses are plastic, so they are slightly thicker than glass lenses would be, but considering I'm paying SO much less, I am very happy indeed. They are the right prescription, they are comfortable, light, they look fine and they were a huge amount cheaper than anywhere else. What's not to like?! At last, an optician who doesn't discriminate against those of us who are very shortsighted. Thanks, MSE and thanks, OP. And a big thanks to Asda.

Yeh sounds more like 1.60 index...

If I remember I will try and take a photo of the chart they read from, whenever they call me this week to pick up my new specs....
