Speeding offence through post requesting who was driving

  • OP, sorry I haven't got any words of wisdom to help, but had to say that there are a great many people who, even if someone is stood in a very prominent place, with a high viz jacket and sign saying that speed enforcement is taking place, who will ignore that and carry on regardless at a speed well in excess of the limit.

If we are all being honest, I don't think there is one single person who can say that they have never, ever broken a speed limit, they just haven't been caught. Whilst I'm not condoning speeding, I think you should probably take it on the chin, put it down to experience and move on...

That was almost me! I was leaving a small village in Fife, Cardenden, many moons ago and as I came round the corner and (still in the 30) started to raise my speed to the NSL (as posted further down the road) I noticed a lollipop man looking at me ahead, I asked my passenger what school kids he was waiting for as there was none nearby to which he replied "That 'aint a lollipop man and that radar gun shaped thing 'aint a lollipop!"
I admit to wearing glasses and have very good corrected vision but I wasn't expecting a policeman up ahead so my brain told me it was a lollipop man!?! I was pulled over and breathalysed but thankfully I wasn't overly speeding, just a routine safety stop.

Ask for evidence and point out it could be one of two insured drivers.

No need to take it on the chin, there are many ways out of these tickets.

As a rule of thumb, you cannot do more than 30mph in a built up area, which means houses/buildings on both sides of the road. I think it is usually 40mph if there is only housing on one side. Unless there are other signed local restrictions. It can be difficult to tell in some rural areas with lots of road side trees and set back houses. As my sister found in Buckinghamshire.

Unfortunatly it's nothing like as simple as that. In our local town there is a 400 yds stretch of dual carriageway linking the 2 main roundabouts in town.

Un broken 5ft high walls run the full length both sides keeping access out to the river on one side and a major post office depot on the other. Still a 30 limit tho' as thousands have found out to their cost. Must be viewed as just 2 short to accomodated all the traffic trying to race the heavies over the narrow sections at either end:confused:

Forgeting the above quote, regarding the issue of the "done the crime, do the time" posters. Yes there are a fair few that add little else, but there are also a good number that offer sound advice if the O post dictates it:T
The trigger for critisism is usually when someone has fallen foul of a system that however much you dislike it, is designed to protect us from each other, and then tries to wriggle out of it. Yes there may be a technical quirk that may help, but if you have broken the law and the police are in order it's a fair cop I'm afraid;)

The issue of the grammar police correcting minor spellings or grammar issues is at best inexcusable and at worst very very sad:mad:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

So, you're satisfied that the NIP was correctly served? You have not actually followed any of the advice given on here yet.

No need to get upset about people pointing out the mistakes of others. Just trying to help. Do calm down;)

I try to be a law-abiding driver, and live in a built up area where it takes a 3or 4 mile drive even to get to a 40 mph limit! The usual reaction from many drivers is to sit on the tail on the outside of the lane waiting, usually, for the slightest oprtunity to pass even in dangerous situations. It happened yesterday on a 40 Mph limit on the single carriageway of the A21. I was driving at around the limit and there behind me was one of them. Sure enough he overtook me dangerously on the outside at the next roundabout. What did it get him? Over the next mile and a half he was still the car ahead of me.

If it was not likely to be distracting I would have a pop-up sign in my rear window saying "your impatience will be the death of you ":j
