Why are you worried about overtaking only being possible in third and after revving it? What did you expect?0

Next time get someone else to check the car over.
Your friend the so called mechanic was he blind?
Did he test drive car, check oil to see condition of oil and whether it was serviced recently.
Really basic stuff not checked maybe this will be a lesson learned for future car purchases.0

The Almera is well known to be one of the most trouble free reliable (some would say boring) cars of its time my neighbour had one & never checked anything & he never had any problem so I think you have been unlucky but £900 is a low price Id get the minimum of essential repairs done & just drive it as for any comeback on the seller I dont think you have a chance, sorry !Theres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10

 who are they?
these faults are not serious, for a £900 car i would be happy this is all thats wrong with it.
i wont repeat what everyone else has said as it seems a waste of time, the op doesnt want to hear the fact that the faults are not major and most could have been seen before they bought it. and the ones that couldnt have been seen werent seen because they hadnt happened yet....work permit granted!0

All comments are fair enough. I'm not trying to be a twit here, just blowing steam after loads of bad luck with this car.
Car is booked. Hopefully will be finally fixed without more wasted time and money (and fuel running back and forth for "second opinions").
Car interior wasn't "karcher'ed", wasnt even an attempt to clean it. no obvious leaks too.
I get the impression that most commenters' expectations are too low. My argument for this is three years of trouble free running of 306d, out of the garage of a seller that is (1500 included 12mth mot and tax). I just hope that tino stops sucking in my wonga after wednesday. Its probably gonna cost me some more and if not the time wasted and running back and forth with a car for small wee fixes i would have been happy.
Also, trust and good will is overrated, apparently. I still trust my mechanic/friend, but he doesn't trust car's seller anymore, they were doing business together for a while, untill today, that is... He didnt check the car before he recommended it to me purely on faith in the seller (who apparently never let him down before, not to this extent anyway).
Most of car's value went down because of all the scrathes and dents on the bodywork, there are plenty of those, which is no problem to me, as long as car functions properly. I thought THAT was the reason for low price. Wrong i guess...
 Lesson learned.
Then again, can someone explain to me what are the rights of private buyer ? You buy a car privately and it starts fall apart in a month. What do you do ?
#Edit1# Could someone in the know of diesels explain to me the situation where 1.9l straight beats 2.2 turbo diesel ?
#Edit2# My dad is fixing his nissan primera tomorrow (back shocks/springs "thingamajiggies" ) which is the only fix in 4 and a half years(besides brake pads). 650 quid for that car he paid. 1998, 1.9td. Again - expectations too high ? ) which is the only fix in 4 and a half years(besides brake pads). 650 quid for that car he paid. 1998, 1.9td. Again - expectations too high ? 0 0
