A quick wipe over with a chamois leather (damp) works on my mums - and they have two dogs that run all over it

please please do not use baby wipes as they will damage the coating on the leather over time i work for a large furniture retailer and all we sell are sofas we are told to tell our customers it will invalidate their warrenty if they do this we use pure soap flakes and warm water on our showroom models and it brings them up as new

  • I bought a nice dark brown hard leather sofa a year ago, cleaned it reguarly with baby wipes, i noticed it had started to look worn so I decided to buy a nice soft throw to sit on to try and stop it getting ruined but the throw was a soft woolen one and when i took it off it had stuck to the sofa leaving behind all the little furry bits if you know what i mean, i have now tried everything to clean it but cannot get all the little sticky fur bits off, it looks ruined!!!! please does anyone know of any suggestions on how to clean it:eek:

  • Don't have any advice I'm afraid but just wanted to sympathise with you, and would be interested in any replies you get, because we just took delivery of a brown leather sofa today - very generous house warming present from in-laws. Hope someone can help you out.
  • I don't know about fluffly bits on leather specifically, but I normally use Wizz leather cleaner and feeder from Poundland to clean leather.
Perhaps you could try sticky tape - test on a hidden part first to see if it lifts any of the colour from your couch, and if not, try using it to remove the fluff. You can even get rollers with rolls of sticky-side-out tape espacially for fluff removal (Poundland again!)

I suspect that the fluff has stuck to residue left on your sofa by the baby wipes.

Try hairspray (wipe on and wipe off) because it contains a mild solvent.

Do try the hairspary somewhere out of sight first. Then you'll need a good clean with something like whizz mentioned earlier.

I use Wizz too and its vg. But just found the Stardrops thread and as I have run out of Wizz am going to see if I can clean the sofa with this. Will report back.
