GE '3%' Cashback Card

I guess the trick is that if you're putting say, £12.99 on your card, it's worth buying something for 1p so you earn the extra 3p cashback. Redagila would have earned 93p cashback rather than 84p if the 3% had been on the whole sale.
Probably easier with petrol. I usually fill up but in future will fill to the nearest whole £.

Any one know if I would get the 3% if I used the card to buy domestic heating fuel?
It would be great If I could.0 -

I haven't been fussed working out which places are 3% as I thought the maximum payout at 3% would be for £5000 per annum. That would be easily reached with just petrol or supermarket shopping surely. Or have I misunderstood and there is no upper threshold in which case I need to look into it more carefully?
At the mo am only using it for petrol and other cashback cards for everything else.
I agree with others who have posted - not everyone will reach £5K on food and petrol only. There are many people in the UK who have annual incomes of less than £10K. For them if the range of retailers is wider than originally indicated, the 3% cashback will be a huge bonus - providing they have been able to obtain this card.
Georgeous George - you are correct about my lost cashback - but it seems we all have to find out the how this card works and where we can use it for maximum cashback. Like you, my petrol fill ups will be rounded to the £ in future and I suppose I can always be persuaded to buy a chocolate bar to make up the grocery figure!0 -

I hope my response didn't come across that way, that wasn't what I meant at all. However to call 3% a huge bonus..... Come on! Not on the grand scheme of things, whatever ones income. This is just a game we are all playing.
True enough, and if the 3% is still in place a year from now it'll be a miracle!Stompa0 -

I get the impression that people are taking this as an insult regarding income and spending.
Not at all.
I'm not the least bit insulted that I spend less than others :-)0 -
I applied for the other card, the transformation one as I still have some debt to clear so the 0% BT rate was a better option for me.
I got my first statement in yesterday and there is no BT fee listed on it even although the site states a capped amount of £50 and the girl on the phone when I called to transfer told me I would have a £50 BT fee too.
If it's not on the first statement, is it likely they have overlooked it and I might not have to pay it or will it just be on the next statement do you think?0 -

The statement mentions that the full payment will be collected by DD, but reading through some of the other posts I got the impression that some people had had written confirmation that their DD had been set up (which I've not had), is that the case?
Stompa, I believe some people are phoning tp ask that the full amount be taken by DD and then asking for a letter of confirmation. A lot of people are nervous that GE might only take the minimum payment, unless otherwise instructed! You know what these companies are like!0 -

If your statement says that the full payment will be collected, then I woudn't worry.
I have just set up a direct debit as well and have automatically received a confirmation that its been set up in the mail (dated the 19th June).
However, in the same post, I also received by first statement which appears to have been printed a couple of days before (17 June) the DD was set-up as the statement doesn't mention it.
On calling GE, they say that the money from my first statement will also noq be taken by direct debit but I am tempted to pay that seperately (just in case!).
I also asked for the full amount to be paid each month and the one thing to be aware of, is that my direct debit confirmation letter does say:
"We will collect the outstanding debit balance each month. No payment will be taken if an interim payment to settle the outstanding balance is credited to your account within 7 days of the Due Date."

Thanks for the comments re DD. I suspect I'm probably OK, and will keep my fingers crossed that it works as expected.Stompa0
