GE '3%' Cashback Card

It sounds like this 3% cashback on groceries and petrol may become a right nightmare to run. I assume that against each transaction on your statement every month it will state whether you get the 3% or the 0.5% but say you buy your groceries from a small local shop such as a One Shop, etc. Will they ensure that this will be the equivalent of a Tesco or Asda?0

Has anyone worked out how to register to view transactions online? When I rang was told it was possible but have looked and can't find it anywhere.0

Was told to phone customer services (an 0870 number unfortunately) and they set the full payment DD up over the phone, no paper DD mandate to sign apparently.0

I was accepted for the GE card ...
Is that clue as to why some people are accepted and some not.
May be if you have some history with a Debenhams or Bhs card you score a few more points.0 -

Ah thanks, that's useful to know. The good news is that on the two occasions I've phoned them I've got through to a real person in about 30 seconds - which is a refreshing change!Stompa0 -
I too got rejected and have sent off an appeal. Won't hold my breath though.
I have checked my report but haven't sent a copy with my letter.
My wife applied, only works 8 hours a week and got accepted. As its based on household income, the credit limit should still be good!
I feel a joint card coming on!:rotfl:0 -

That would possibly explain why I was accepted, even though I have only used my BHS card twice. I forgot I had it until the other day when rearranging everything. Would still have thought they would have gone for people who have shown that they pay interest on their cards though.0 -
Sorry folks, this card is now jinxed. I've applied for one this morning and received the acceptance in about half an hour.
This'll be my third cashback card: I also have a Halifax card (used to be competitive but the cashback rate was reduced to almost nothing) and an Accucard, with a reduced rate, about to be replaced by card with no cashback at all.
As others have suggested, these headline grabbing cashback deals tend to be a way of building up attention and market share.
For what it's worth, although GE Money is part of the American General Electric Company, they seem to have built their UK business by buying up Burtons store card operation:
"GE Money is the new trading name for GE Consumer Finance and GE Capital Bank Ltd, which came into being when General Electric bought the Burton Group´s finance company 20 years ago..." from https://www.gemoney.co.uk/html/aboutgemoney/whygemoneyarticlepage.shtml.0 -
Received my card today - pin arrived last week.
Checked if there was a list of retailers which qualify for 3% but they do not have one. 3% is given on purchases from superstores and main garages providing they accept the card. Looks as though we will have to use it and check if any retailers are missing.
My statement date is 17th of the month so will use the card this week and check the statement when it arrives. Perhaps we can post how we all get on.
I was also told that although there is no internet facility now they are working on it and expect to have an online facility in 2-3 months.
I intend to use this card for groceries and petrol only which should allow me to make full use of the 3% cashback.0 -

Tried that again and no luck - Maybe it really was faulty, else I managed to scrub it too much!
Are you meant to just peel back the plastic, then rub the paper, or rub the plastic cover.
Tried both bits, neither seem to have any number on them.
Thanks for your help!
Cheers
Steve
:-) Steve the pin is on the plastic you peeled off - stick this back onto white paper and you will be able to read it - probably too late now but just wading through thread :-)0
