  • All companies based in the UK and paying UK taxes should be given a special kitemark type emblem they can display to show this to consumers, and those who dodge UK taxes should not be used as suppliers to government departments, national or local.
  • Economy 7 provides an off-peak rate for 8 hours.

In Spain, Iberdrola (Scottish Power) provides 14 hours of off-peak hours (10 PM to noon).

This is fair because these hours are genuinely off-peak hours.

    It is also environmentally friendly.

It is time Economy 7 became Economy 14!
  • Airlines and travel agents should always refund airport taxes to consumers if flights are cancelled or the consumer cancels before the cut off date for refunds. This isn't happening and so airlines pocket the tax part of the flight ticket because the tax authority aren't aware of the journey unless it actually occurs.
  • Gift vouchers and cards should have no expiry date with the credit honoured until redemption. Unfortunately, some companies rely on inertia, imposing short expiry dates of between 6 and 24 months after which the vouchers are worthless while retaining your money.

Avoid the IFA monopoly on investment advice by creating a cut down web version, primarily aimed at smaller investors. Clients would enter their details, then select a risk and time profile. Suitable investments might be focussed on maximising after tax returns in relation to the drawdown of the portfolio.
  • The practice for adding more charges for unpaid charges should be stopped. My niece who is in college went 4p overdrawn. Because her pocket money did not cover the charge, Santander has added more and more charges every month. They have taken every penny since April and now she still owes a wopping £99. Stop this please.
  • Stop stores from advertising "special offers" when they know they haven't got enough stock to meet the demand. If the offer runs out, they should have to give you a voucher so that you can buy it at the offer price when it comes back in stock.
  • Water companies should be required to review your payment more frequently than annually.

Anglian Water reduced my normal monthly payment to zero, left this in force for a year before reviewing it, the new payment was twice the size of the original payment. Apparently there system can't review more than once a year.....!
  • Train tickets should be accepted by all companies running a particular route, or part of a route. Last weekend several trains were cancelled due to the weaher and passengers getting on any train in a effort to get home were being charged for new tickets as "..this ticket is not valid with Cross Country.." or whatever.

  • To assist consumers when trying to compare goods and services all suppliers must provide standardised pricing information for their goods and services in the same format, e.g. standard:

    - "unit" used per product / service type
    - time periods
    - type of measure

In supermarkets it would cut through all the flashy offers and allow shoppers to know how many pence per gram or litre an item costs.

Also cuts through the confusion of different energy company tariffs.
