  • Individual retailers charge the same amount for in-store items, by store type, across the nation. e.g. Tesco Extra have standard prices / offers; Tesco Metro is standard across the that outlet brand; Tesco on-line is standard throughout the country.
There is no excuse for supermarkets like Tesco charging different petrol prices by location
Any retailer with multiple outlets should be compelled to charge the same prices in every outlet for the full range of goods and services
  • Controlled Substances Off-sales - Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs - should be sold ONLY by local authority outlets. This will standardise quality and control prices.
This will cut criminals from the supply chain and reduce police / coastguard / customs costs.
This will allow local authorities to raise revenue to provide services.
  • Too many people are repeatedly treated for self inflicted illnesses and injuries, caused by over-indulgence of food, alcohol, tobacco or drugs. Any hospital attendees, especially A&E, where the root cause of the problem is one of the above should be compelled to follow up with their GP. If, after 3, say semi-annual, visits, the patient has not improved their habits, they should forfeit their right to free NHS treatment.
  • Yes, agree - in fact, John, if we just move forward one hour on GMT and retain summer (thus 2 hours ahead of GMT in summer) we would be on same clock as most of mainland Europe for the whole year. That would make travel and communications much easier and less confusing. Quite apart from the benefits in daylight. (Oh, and I live in Scotland - not everyone here is anti the idea!!)
  • How about abolishing standard road tax and adjusting (slightly increasing) the tax on fuel instead. This way the people who drive the most contribute the most tax as it is directly in proportion. And it still punishes the gas guzzlers.
  • Currently you pay a higher unit rate for utilities for the initial units and the rate then reduces. This unfairly punishes lower income people and those who use less. To pay more per unit the more you use would be fairer and encourage energy saving.
  • I've always thought it highly unfair that women's sanitary products were subject to VAT. Hardly a take it or leave it product is it?
  • Those on incapacity benefit or ESA should have the same extra benefits as those claiming Job Seekers.
We can't work through no fault of our own and have to pay for our prescriptions, dental treatment, eye tests.
Those with enduring mental health problems and others need medication to survive

a fortune is wasted every year on sending each eligible household one or more winter fuel allowance letters. An informative insert in all national newspapers would suffice. Many of my friends have already received payment before their letter arrived. How much more wasteful correspondence is sent out? Save this waste!
i agree with stopping waste, unfortunately some of us refuse to buy newspapers, another great saving!!!
  • From age 60, women expected to get their pension, until they actually receive it, due to pension age increase.
If the government stopped their N.I. contributions and reduced tax to, say, 10% (excluding higher 40% earnings). This would compensate half million women born in the wrong years.
