Introduced as an end consumer tax - falacy !!. It replaced purchase tax, a much simpler system. VAT is a concoction of a job creation scheme and interest free loan to the government forced upon us by the EU. It is mind blowing over complex, costly time wasting, recycles money-non productively, petty minded in definition, and carries whingeing penalities. It's useless and pointless. Save billions, go back to purchase tax.

Over 50 words, please humour me. Any finished item sold with five different components or stages of production involves the movement of money in and out of the treasury to the value of the finished product. AND this is the coup de gras; if the end user is vat reg ALL the vat is claimed back. The inmates are ruling the asylum.
  • Benefits such as job seekers or child tax credits could be paid in part by vouchers so that money ends up getting spent on food or fuel or clothing. Have exclusions on voucher such as 'not redeemable' on certain products i.e. lottery, alcohol and tobacco.
  • Allow home buyers to use own,and employers pension contribution payments,to purchase defined part equity through mortgage payments,so reducing salary funded mortgage.Part equity to be used on sale of property to repurchase, invest in private pension fund, purchase long term care etc.
  • Universities educate people in specialist subjects. There is an approximate known number of vacancies each year in corresponding occupations. Businesses are getting their staff prepared free of charge, whilst students pay. Businesses should finance the education of their future employees, thereby providing free education for the students studying relative subjects.
  • Create working parties of unemployed people to help communities so it's not a 'free ride', it would also help cut out working on side for cash.
Claiments should be available to be called in to help during set hours and if not available when called have benefit cut that day.

Utility companies should send out estimated bills based on the customer's previous usage. They should not send a bill for 3 times the normal usage as happened to me recently!:p

Utility companies should not keep sending out bills to elderly customers fooling them into overpaying. The customer ends up with huge credit amounts and the utility company is reluctant to refund the money, as happened to my elderly relatives.:p

  • After passing a driving test people can drive until they can't any longer. With so many accidents each year and recovery by emergency services costing millions of pounds a year, drivers should have to take a test every 10 years to ensure they are safe to be on the road.
  • Let local authorities levy a tax per ton on food waste uplifted from supermarkets
  • Pensioners, single people, poorer families are charged more for buying low quantities.
Whether it is utility usage or food, smaller quantities attract higher tariffs and prices. This is unfair.
End BOGOF, extra volume free, extra at half price deals.
