    Hey Redux,

can you try going to this page->http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/clientscript/vbulletin_css/style-4e281d8a-00002.css pressing ctrl-f5 and then comming back to the site. this will hopefully load the style sheet into your browser cache. It is still likely that the stylesheet has been incorrectly cached. As for thanks buttons etc there is nothing that we have done this end that I believe would impact them. Can you confirm that you havent recently changed/upgraded any firewall/anti virus packages on your pc?

    Thanks
That link gives a file download window about Open or Save this file, and then opens in FrontPage. I closed the program, agreeing I wanted to save this version in Temp Internet Files folder number whatever. Then I pressed ctrl-F5 on this page. The CSS format is now ok, having switched on and off about 6 times this morning and 20 times in the last few days.

I still get the "Done, but with errors on page" message in the status bar on many pages. Double-clicking the yellow triangle gives more info, such as invalid character in Line 2 Char 1 on here, or vB_Text_Editor is undefined or another term null or not an object, etc

Apart from normal anti-virus [AntiVir] definition updates, I haven't done anything; there is a new ZA version I'm about to set up, but I'd be surprised if this makes a difference. All this occurred straight away from switch-on after 3 weeks away.

I still have several buttons not working, eg the small edit window within a post can have the text changed, but not then posted with Save, the Go Advanced button next to that doesn't work either, but the dark blue Edit button below the box does work. I've just tried to add a selection of smilies to the end of this post, or highlight and embolden text, and still nothing ... when pressing any of these, the flashing vertical line cursor disappears and I have to reclick the mouse arrow at the desired place

... and I still don't know who thanked me the last few times
  • redux,

I appologies if you have already said but i couldnt see it - what ISP do you use? do you have any internet "accelerators" or does your ISP use any. My thoughts now is that perhaps the javascript files you have are old and hanging around either on your machine or perhaps in an ISPs cache.

Hopefully we can find out what the similarities are between all those that have issues and work from there.

    Thanks for your attention Neil

Maybe that is a good guess ...

I have Pipex broadband, and the Onspeed accelerator product [it saves on bandwidth used, but not much difference to speed].

Maybe it's Onspeed's cache, are you suggesting? I'm ok on display at the moment, so wouldn't learn much if I switched Onspeed off for a while, but could see what happens in the next couple of days ...

Just an update from my end.

Downloading the page MSE Neil linked to also opened Front Page for me as with Redux. I simply closed Front Page - didn't know what else to do with it. I then pressed CTRL -F5 on a forum page as suggested.

Everything is fine for me now. I can use smilies and formatting once more. The error message in the status bar has gone now.

    I'm using NTL broadband.

Onspeed has been on this PC for almost two years, without this ever occurring before

I've just had a phase of logging in about fifteen times ...

Did as you said Neil, working ok now except for no thanks, tho do have active scripting enabled, also remember deleting a Netscape Navigator file recently, which could be relevant. Have only Internet Explorer.

Ok im hoping that it might be onspeed and holding my fingers crossed....could you try going and following instructions here
    http://www.onspeed.com/en/help/pc/post_purchase.php?id=8

and exclude our site. im hoping that somewhere along the line the javascript that you are getting is old for some reason. (the javascript for the forum before the upgrade we did a few weeks ago)

    Thanks

When I had those problems earlier, I switched off Onspeed then back on again, and have been fine so far, except the smilies and all that - could be coincidence.

I'm not willing to bypass Onspeed long-term on MSE, as page sizes can be 200k or so, and extended use would use up more than the 1 GB limit on my budget Pipex BB, but will give it a try from time to time in the next few days.

It would be nice if other people with these problems could comment if they are using proxies, as I don't want to think I'm hogging attention

I don't use Onspeed. At home my Pipex connection displays MSE perfectly. At work I had about 12 hours the other day where the display was OK but the thread tools pull down doesn't pull down. Now it's back to being totally corrupted. The thread tools pull down just reloads the page with subscribe to thread links at bottom.
It all seemed to start after the site was offline for maintenance a few weeks ago.
    I've tried everything suggested.
Seems to also affect the side menu on the Main (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com) site.
