It is fine now, since earlier in the day.
In the same time I have totally cleared all Temp Internet Files including index.dat file, and also my BB connection was duff since last night and I reinstalled the drivers.
~/style-4e281d8a-00002.css is here now
I don't quite know how Onspeed's cache works, whether they permanently store some popular sites, or it happens only in the time that the subscriber's browser calls for it, down a much faster pipe at their end. If the former, maybe they sometimes keep one that was corrupted only for a few minutes.
But I've still got the no smilies and format when posting issue ... sorry:
so i'll have to start remembering them longhand0 -
Been fine now for a whole day, Neil, since you made the latest changes.
Still says Done, but Error on Page and no thanks. :-))))0 -
Does anyone know what the problem with the thanks button is? I get a done but with errors message and when i press thanks it shoots to the top of the page. This is driving me nuts, i use the thanks button all the time on the comp forum....
Can anyone help please??
Thank you, Carrie.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -
That thanks issue is still affecting me - I can neither do thanks or see who has thanked anyone.
There is definitely something very odd with the way that MSE forums is handling the Javascript files.
Take a look in the hidden Temporary Internet Files folders - there are hundreds of examples of -
9a7b7af5.ext
vbulletin_editor.css
vbulletin_global.js
vbulletin_menu.js
vbulletin_quick_edit.js
vbulletin_quick_reply.js
vbulletin_textedit.js
There are also loads of js files like http://127.0.0.1:1028/js.cgi?pca&r=1150
where r has different values every time - I think other sites do these as well
I'm wondering if perhaps the browser is not calling the right value of r and another version of the above files gets downloaded but cannot be used?
As mentioned above, these folders were deleted only a couple of days ago, and I deleted all these hidden files again yesterday when I discovered this. Now there are about 600 or 700 of them. I think the 9a7b7af5 file might be something about cookies, but rest are definitely js files, and might be something to do with these various buttons not working?0 -
Getting "Done, but with errors on page." when using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 - which results in the Forums being displayed in simple text format with no cascading style sheets being applied. When run using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 the Forums display okay with the formatting from the cascading style sheets being applied, table borders, fonts, etc. Both Internet broswers are being run on the same PC at work at the same time so I do not see how the ISP would make a difference. Microsoft Internet Explorer used to work okay up until about a month, two months ago.0

I put this site in the exclusion list of Tiscali Accelerator, full url, now thanks button works, so gonna use it often to make up.
BUT also this morning removed Macromedia Flash Player and Shockwave, with Active x component, prior to updating, so could have been that.0 -
The point is, it shouldn't be necessary to stop accelerator proxies, as they are useful to compress these pages by a factor of between 10 and 20. I assume the proxy cache is not itself corrupting the files, but saving occasionally sent corrupted versions. And no other website I've visited has a problem like this.0

Hi Redux, have been playing about with Mozilla Firefox download, didn't get on with it, so deleted, but kept the Netscape Navigator file (mentioned by Neil) that was left behind. Have now gone back to nothing in the exclusion list on accelerator , and pages loading normal, smilies on, no more trips to the top.Can thanks too, so maybe a mix of everyone's contribution.
On the question of Onspeed, may be going on to them with the cheaper rates offered by Tesco Dial-up Daytime £5.99 or Free4 Dial-up (all the time ) £4.99.
Does is work, are you happy with the service .?? TIA0 -
I just looked a bit more at the errors on page reports - I had not realised until now that the list of errors pertains only to the current page, not to history of the previous times it was looked at.
Most pages have about 5 to 7 errors, but some have over 30 (45 in this one as I'm writing). The most common one is Object expected.
I don't know anything about html, but I assume that these errors do not enhance display of the site. I still wonder about the vast number of js files in the hidden Temporary Internet Files, and why the style sheet issues fluctuate several times an hour.0 -
Something interesting happened this morning
I deleted all Temp Internet Files overnight, including index.dat file again.
Using IE6, for a while, about half an hour, the display of MSE was perfect, and all the facilities that had been unusable for several weeks were working. I first noticed that I got the small fast edit window within the post, which had happened a few weeks ago, but this time it actually posted when the button had not worked for some time. I then drafted a post including loads of smilies, which had been impossible since the end of June. I could see who had thanked, which I have otherwise had to log in in Firefox to do.
As well as that, none of the pages I looked at had any "Errors on page" messages at all. I started to think that these improvements were not just coincidence.
So I came to this board, ready to post on either this or another thread discussing similar issues, and just to check, tried thanking MSE Neil's last post up the thread. Now the stylesheet issue has returned, and there are 46 errors on this page.
Is this happening in my cache, or the Onspeed cache, or in MSE's version of the page that they send to the server?
Firefox displays MSE pages fine, but I prefer IE as it works quite a bit faster with Onspeed0
