    Hi folks.

Im afraid MSE Neil (the one who can sort it out) is on holiday this week - so we really can't help on this one for the moment.

    sorry

    Thanks Martin

For extra info before I forget, I just looked in the hidden content.ie5 folders of temp internet files, and the multiple vbulletin JS files were there, starting from 1046 when my browser behaviour changed.

I'm mystified as to whether this is an issue with my browser, or MSE itself, but others have had similar js-linked problems. As I mentioned (discovered a couple of days ago), I can use Firefox fine, so if I want to post smilies or do or see Thanks then I'll use that.

I might come and update this if I delete the index.dat file again this evening (needs restart) ...

ps [which I've mentioned before] switching off Onspeed corrects the display, and then on again sometimes goes bad, sometimes not. For the last few weeks, with Onspeed on all the time, the display of MSE fluctuates with the stylesheet on and off, maybe at about half-hour to two-hour intervals on average. My thinking is that Onspeed's cache is updating from time to time, and MSE is occasionally sending corrupt versions that get stored there for a while, but it could easily be something in the browser settings that affects how pages are called. It seems very unlikely to me that the errors themselves might switch on and off due to different page coding being sent - the most common error is 'object expected' and I might guess that this is the vbulletin Javascript files that are for some reason being multiple downloaded without being accessible from the TIF cache here. I'm certain that Neil will understand all of this much better than my guesswork, but I hope I've said something that might be useful.

Sorry to be terminally boring, but maybe a hint of help

After espresso's answer to someone on the Techie Board about the same issue, I messed around with a suggestion he/she made.

(The stylesheet problem is not there at the moment.)

Switch off Onspeed, press ctrl-F5. Once refreshed, switch Onspeed on again. The small blue e IE logo appears on the left of the status bar (ie no errors)
The small fast edit window within a post works, smilies ok, other formatting, see thanks etc. Then, pressing F5 (plain) just refreshes the page. Going to different pages is fine, and all is ok on all of them

But then pressing ctrl-F5 then corrupts it again; stylesheet ok at the moment, but the yellow triangle at the left of the status bar appears and says errors on page. Now none of the JS functions work. And that carries over to all pages.

It's reversible. Stop Onspeed then ctrl-F5 then start Onspeed and it's ok again. If changing pages before doing it though, they all have errors

I looked in the hidden TIF folders and found hundreds of duplicated vbulletin js files again. Whatever the actual cause, the effect seems to be that the browser doesn't pick the reference out of the page code and recognise that it means the JS file you've already got, gets another and that's no use either. Hence the "Object expected" error I suppose.

Reading the posts above, some have the problem on a work PC but not at home. Presumably this is also some kind of proxy server issue. Probably the proxy cannot be turned on and off so easily. But completely clearing the redundant extra JS files away may help, either manually or with cleaner programs. Work might not like employees messing around so much though.

It's still odd the way it is happening and only since a couple of months ago. I hope this gives some ideas to people that know much more about all this, like MSE Neil.

Now I hope I can post this without it all going wrong and spoiling the guesswork - first time I've done sizing and colour for weeks:j :T

Edit - I've had the missing stylesheet happen again, and the same thing fixes it. I've a suspicion that clicking a link to another part of the site affected the new window opening, but it may be a complete coincidence

... and I got logged out once

I've got the problem with the forum displaying without the associated stylesheet and it makes it really difficult to view.

Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem?

    Thanks
