debit card snob!

Ok, I'm ashamed to admit that (albeit on a lesser scale than the OP) I'm a card snob
Well, not even a snob really - I realise that everyone these days has a gold/platinum thingy and that it's those people who in fact are probably the skint ones, whilst those paying in cash are probably far better off.
But still, I can't help but feel an irrational sense of pleasure when I get a card through the post and its nice and shiny - my Nationwide Gold and black Egg Money card look particularly nice, whilst my (unused, but not for cosmetic reasons lol!) Barclaycard Student has childish looking drawings on it that make it look really tacky. Equally I've got a Natwest basic debit card thats a bland grey and looks like something from the 1980s!
The thing is - I wouldn't by any means be embarassed of using my Barclaycard or Natwest (and if they were interest-free/amazing cashback I'd by all means use them!) it's just that the Nationwide and Egg cards are so much more aesthetically pleasing to have in my walletEven if no-one else cares it looks nice, I do

I think I must be an inverse card snob then! I have several credit cards and a couple of debit cards all of which are platinum types. I do not earn vast amounts of cash, nor do I have vast amounts stashed away. I open my purse and it looks bland and rather boring as everything in it is the same colour. I dont ask for platinum cards, they just happen to be the ones sent to me. I would like to take a stand and say I want more pretty colours in my purse please, not bland old metallic looking bits of plastic!

Well, given that Vanquis offer a Gold card, I think it's fair to say that swish cards aren't exactly hard to come by.
"Yah, look at me with my 59.9% APR gold card".Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Just thought I'd add, although the 'reverence' of gold and platinum cards seems somewhat dead (from personal observations over the years as well as this thread!) it's worth noting that this isn't true in other countries - especially if they're without chip-and-pin I guess, since retail staff are physically handling the cards a lot more.
When I travelled around Thailand and Asia a year or two back, I remember one time at a reasonably upmarket Thai resort when I was lounging on a sunbed by the pool and had ordered a beer. When the waiter came over, I asked if they took credit cards and he nodded - so I handed him my shiny Nationwide gold card, which he looked at for a second before taking it and showing it to a colleague. Babbling excitedly in Thai, they examined it for a whole minute before finally giving a deferential bow and walking off, holding the card as if it was made of some precious metal!
I guess it was a mix of it being a poorer country and limited card system -meaning staff don't see many credit/debit cards at all, as opposed to the UK's plastic-fantastic approach (plus Thais are notoriously obsessive over status and displays of wealth.) Either way, I thought it pretty amusing at the time0 -
Which credit card company was it that allowed you (for a £10 or so fee) to upload your own picture and put it on the card?
I'm sure it was Capital One a couple of years ago. I don't think it's available now.
On another note, I recall getting myself a PINK Virgin credit card a few years back to ensure that it didn't find it's way into my wallet and spend on it after I transfered a large balance.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
