debit card snob!

Any one know what type of debit card RBS are issuing customers now as my card is due for renewal soon and I know they don't issue Maestro cards any longer!0

Yeah but the people in the queue behind you notice if you have something shiny or unique
... Or in my case notice if I have something with "VANQUIS" written on it. I wouldn't use it but I have to from time to time to build my credit score ...
I think the Barclaycard Goldfish is a really funky looking credit card.
Again, the Barclays Premier debit card is, IMO, very smart looking.
I would probably notice if the woman in front had a snazzy bag, but what tiny bit of plastic she paid for her shopping with never.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I honestly can't believe so many people take notice of this:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I picked my bank account for free travel insurance, not the plastic card:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Joking aside, tbh I think if there is any kind of "prestige" in relation to making payments in the UK, cash probably has it more than anything - I remember a couple of years ago when me and my dad went to Currys to help one of my dad's friends choose a television set. For some suspicious reason (tax evasion suspicious not drug dealer suspicious lol) the guy nearly always dealt in cash.
After umming and ahhing a bit the guy finally picked out a tv costing just over a grand. The sales assistant nodded, looking and sounding like he'd done this kind of thing a million times before when he said in a bored sounding voice 'pay by cash or card?' clearly thinking he knew what the answer was.
The look on his face when the guy pulled out an envelope full of £50s and £20s (it just looked so suave, and so much cooler than pulling out a credit card)To be fair the sales rep was pretty professional once he'd gotten over the shock, and took us into the manager's office where they counted it all out and checked the £50s, and a few minutes later we left with a nice new tv
To think, if it had been a card transaction it wouldn't have even been worth mentioning - yet the sales rep was probably talking about this particular sale for weeks. Cash really is king!
Edit: I realise this is the 3rd post I've made on this thread already, its only just over one page long
I pay by cash for most things. DH gives me 2 £50 notes nearly every week for the shopping. That always gets checked at the tills:D Doesn't bother me in the slightest, they are asked to do it by their employers.
I've paid large sums for things in cash, paid for my kitchen in cash:D0 -

May I substitute some of the above with the following please
Big 4 banks = sane, sorted, run of the mill decent folk
Santander = mad:eek:
Co-op = project worker, doo-gooder, wears leather elbow patches, reads the guardian and buys organic milk and is a union rep:D
I had the A&L one Martin recommended with the free travel insurance (plus I could use the village PO as my bank:D).
But they've moved everyone to Santander now.
I'm not even sure if I can use the PO now:(0 -
I remember when a Platinum credit card was considered to be only issued to those with money. Nowadays, you just need a salary of 20k to get one certainly from Natwest anyway.
Only a black credit card (not colour, but name), seems to now suggest you have bags of money.
With regards to the change from Maestro and Solo card to Visa Debit. I find it strange how suddenly all these people not considered worthy to be issued with a Maestro card, have now suddenly been upgraded to what you would term a proper debit card in Visa debit.0 -
I have to admit I liked getting my gold natwest debit card out of wallet and using it when I went shopping... call me a snob or materialistic but i did....BUT ..... now they have sent me a replacement which i can only describe as vile!!
However, I realised that it doesnt make a single jot of difference what the colour is to most people taking the cards. You are just another person being served and many dont even see the card nowadays as you put it straight in the machine to type your pin in.
Its far better to go with the best terms and nowadays I just have the old fashioned Lloyds Classic account with a green debit card. I could have a black card but I really dont see the point.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. You only need to earn £10,000 pa to get the NatWest credit card:
