My favourite card is my Natwest student credit card..the design is blue ink splodges all over a white background. It screams 'poor graduate with miniscule credit limit', but I don't care, cos it looks awesome (although a little grubby now :o)

    Yeah

Only common people would be dealing directly with merchants or tradesmen.
Those with real status have staff to do it on their behalf.

    :D

You were hoping for some thanks, fail. lol
surely the truly rich would just whip out a wad of 50's? ;) who needs plastic :rotfl:

I thought that was just drug deals and benefit frauders - working cash in hand.

Back to the OP, I agree with him. Because my dad had private banking with Natwest I had a private banking account with a nice card but he moved to Lloyds and they switched my account to a student account so when I'd lost my nice card the replacement was that horrid purple card, I have already broken 3 of them as it is so thin it bends so easily

EDIT: I don't care how much people say they aren't card snobs or feel sorry for people with nice card etc. because if you have any naimosity or notice their card it is just inverse snobbery, which is sad and worse. Do you also look down on people because they have nicer cars than you? That's like saying you feel sorry for someone driving a 650i because it guzzles fuel and your 320d is much more frugal.

If you have a Black AMEX card you really have arrived, you may be walking round with a target on you saying "I !!!! money away" but its worth it. The free air port lounges, free hotel room upgrades, queue jumping and booths at night clubs, you can even have your plane tickets upgraded if the seats are available. This actually happens.
Coutts aren't too hard to obtain both my Dad and my Grandparents used to get phone calls to move to Coutts when they closed their Natwest and RBS private banking accounts respectively and my Dad probably doesn't meet their eligibility criteria just because they're good customers and not with the company anymore.

Your bank and bank card does say something about the kind of person you are

    Big 4 banks = sheep ;)
Santander = someone who doesnt mind incompetence :p
COOP = Ethical views , a campaigner
First Direct / Coventry = someone who thinks they are better than others :o
Northern Ireland Bank card when living on the mainland = Aspergers :D

unless you're using the Northern Ireland card to buy 50 bottles of bleach and 20 packs of fertilizer, then it's a bit different.

I have to say that I'm proud of having my two blue NatWest Visa debit cards (for my Step and First Reserve accounts) and they look a billion times better than my crappy red Santander Electron card. Snob power! lol

May I substitute some of the above with the following please

Big 4 banks = sane, sorted, run of the mill decent folk ;)
    Santander = mad:eek:
Co-op = project worker, doo-gooder, wears leather elbow patches, reads the guardian and buys organic milk and is a union rep:D

When working in a supermarket you do match some stereotypes if I'm honest. In a basic way.

    For example
Northern Rock card = hardened geordie/old
Co-op = I need the Sainsbury's SO Organic range please
    First Direct = I'll pretend I'm posh
Black debit card (e.g. LTSB Premier, Barclays Premier) = I'll show off my apparent wealth by slowly getting this card out in a dramatic fashion for all to see
Smile = I'm cool, and I know it. My card is pink (in fact, when I was in a shop, the girl on the till asked how I had a pink card)
Natwest = Probably a student or recent graduate buying Sainsbury's Basics

The rest weren't memorable in any way really.

Indeed - I started off with a COOP account when I left school for idealistic reasons

I now have accounts with the big 4 for practical reasons

Unfortunately Santander aquired some banks which I held accounts with so I have accounts there

I suppose I am a doo - gooder (for non mainsteam issues) and I wear leather elbow patches, and read the guardian
organic milk is too middle class for me and union rep is too working class

    Hi

Is there any one who knows a bank that allows me to be snobby again and apply for an account that offers a gold debit card (with no monthly fee)

    Thank you

    PG

The Nationwide credit card (NOT debit card) is not only a gold card but has the words "gold card" in big letters on it!
