If you live out in the country as I do. Most courier depots are a far greater distance than Sorting offices. Also RM don't charge for redelivery which a lot of couriers do and you can get RM to redeliver on Saturdays. It all depends on geography but IMO i would guess that its easier for the majority of people to collect or get redelivered from RM than most couriers

I know a lot of people who when they buy off ebay only go for listings that state RM or PF as they are easier for those people to collect if problems

I send and receive a lot of parcels through various couriers and they ALL attempt 3 times, leaving you a card so you can ring to arrange a convenient day. Most even leave with neighbours providing you sign something and leave it on the door. Ive found citylink, ups and dhl all do this. Parcelforce leave at the post office. The only courier that is a pain is Home delivery network which most people hopefully know to steer clear of
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

why would a buyer complain about getting their item quicker and full tracked than using rm? unless of course they want it untracked because they intend to put in a item not received claim when it arrives

they dont care about tracking as long as they get it
who says they will get it quicker? if they are not home and the courier depot is 50 miles away vs a couple of miles for RM it maybe a longtime before they can get it
all the couriers mean a trek accross the city for me,my RM depot is a 30 minute walk from here
    minutes by car

This a is pointless discusion as it purely depends on your own circumstances.
For me most couriers are 15mins by car and i park outside and put parcel in boot..
Post office is 15 mins by car, 60p in the town centre car park, 10 mins walk to post office, queue for 30 mins + in post office, stagger back to car with parcel if its big.

As for previous poster suggesting leaving poor feedback and seller ratings for using a courier instead of RM i say bring back negative feedback for buyers so these nitpickers can be identified. ;)

its not about mine or your circumstances
its about buyers and the majority will have RM depots far closer than a courier depot
take Edinburgh as an example, all the couriers (who actually have depots in the city) are on the western outskirts.
so for everyone in the city the RM depot is closer except those living in the same postcode as the couriers.even then most are off the bus routes in the industrial parks

    as for FB/DSR's
if you have 2 sellers and you pick the one listing thats states RM rather than the one stating seller postage/courier then you are gonna be narked if you then get a courier used anyway

There is more this than closeness - , buses, car parking, length of queue in post office, how fit you are to carry a parcel if the parking is not by the colection point etc.
Most couriers have three goes to deliver - my parcelforce driver has one go then takes it to the post office. What really narks me is parcelforce put a sticker on the parcel saying "for your convenience this has been taken to post office at XXX". How do they know whats convenient for me?

thats right its about many factors
however for me all my local PO's have parking
i have 3 PO's closer than my RM depot,so the PO is fine for me
all the courier depots are miles away.
however i dont why you are bring parcelforce into it as they are a courier
i am talking about RM depots, post offices are a different matter

theres no point arguing with me ,the fact is that for the majority the RM depot will be closer

My RM sorting office is a mile down the road, the nearest courier depot is 35 miles away.
Send the book with RM and accept your losses. At least the buyer will be happy.

I hadnt realised i was arguing with you.
I thought we were discussing the results of the different delivery methods when the receiver is not at home.
As we are talking about what happens when the receiver is not at home it seemed perfectly reasonable to introduce what Parcelforce do when you are not there.
Its commendable that you support your old employer but lighten up a little and see the bigger picture. I was going to give my views on what Royal Mail do when you are not in but i'll refrain.

lol where did I do that?
its nothing to do with what company does what
its a simple fact that the RM network is more accessible to the majority of UK buyers

We do not know that the buyer will be happy if she uses RM.
The original poster was unsure which delivery method had been listed.

It was someone else who said IF she had said RM be careful about using someone else.
