A warning about My Hermes Parcel Company. Recommended by MSE, but my experience of their service would say otherwise and I would urge you to stay clear because I think they may be in trouble.
I made a booking on Sunday 27 March 2011 for a small 3kg parcel to be collected from my home on Monday 28 March 2011. Received a confirmation e-mail from them in return and then waited in the next day for the courier to arrive. Waited right through to 2000 hrs (their specified latest collection time) and nothing. I live on an old estate, so there should have been no reason for them not to find me. On Monday I tried to e-mail them using their ‘Contact Us’ link on their website. Three times I tried and on each occasion, I had the e-mail bounce back as undeliverable.
On Tuesday 29 March 2011, I tried to phone them on their contact number first thing in the morning at 0800 hrs (when they opened). A nice 0871 number (no alternative on SayNoto0870) and 42 minutes later after waiting in a queue, they answered. I asked why they hadn’t collected the parcel and was given some ‘!!!!!! and bull’ story about an error because they hadn’t put the clocks forward on the Sunday. However, the operative positively assured me that the courier would collect that day before 2000 hrs.
Once again, stayed in all day and nothing. Phoned them again on their nice 0871 number at 1945 (15 minutes before they closed) and waited 20 minutes with no response.
I then tried to send them an e-mail again through their website to cancel my order and get a refund and surprise, surprise, the message bounced back as undeliverable.
Looks like I will have to write off the £5.99 that I paid for the service, unless I want to spend just as much again (if not already spent) waiting on their 0871 number because there appears to be no other way of contacting them.
In summary, despite the recommendation from MSE, MyHermes have given an appalling service, and when you do have a problem, any savings you would have saved over using the Royal Mail are quickly eaten up by the use of their 0871 number.
So I would recommend to take your business elsewhere and avoid MyHermes.0 -
I have to send a parcel to Northern Ireland later today. Almost everywhere I looked was asking for £18+ and that was for 2-3 day service
Eventually I found these guys:
parcelbroker.co.uk
They offered same day pick up with next day delivery for £8.99+VAT via DHL Premium. The cost covers anything upto 15kg and then goes up gradually if you go over that weight.
I've always used parcel2go before now, but for this parcel they wanted £15.36 + VAT with next day pick up and 3 day delivery (also through DHL)0 -
COLLECTMYPARCEL.COM - 10 out of 10 for customer care!!
Hi guys
I recently used this courier service to transport a baby's nursery crib that I bought on Ebay. The carrier they used was DHL (Express). I have nothing but praise for Collectmyparcel.com but there was a problem with DHL.
I had a great price for the service (next day delivery), the item was collected the next day as arranged but for some unknown reason they did not deliver. I waited in all day but DHL were a no show. My tracking stated: 'could not locate'. I don't understand this as I live on a main road and my house is not hard to find. Anyway, I rang Collectmyparcel to complain and they were very polite and helpful. They apologised for the no show and refunded the difference between the express and normal delivery service. They contacted DHL who then delivered the parcel the next day.
I wasn't happy when I opened the parcel and found that the baby's crib was damaged. It had been well packaged so it could only have happened through lack of care during transit.
Collectmyparcel were again very helpful. They sent me instructions on how to claim for the damage. I provided photos and all the information they needed and the very next day I got a phonecall from a lovely member of staff who wanted to reassure me (due to my pregnancy) that they will be refunding the cost of the crib plus courier costs. I couldn't believe it. She didn't want me to have the added stress of waiting for a response from DHL so she said that Collectmyparcel would refund the costs today and they would then take the risk of getting the money back through DHL.
I cannot tell you how happy I am with this. The crib is repairable but she said not to bother getting a quote for repair as they will refund the full purchase cost as a gesture of goodwill.
I couldn't have asked for better and highly recommend this company based on their high standards of customer care and empathy for my personal situation.

Randal, I'm a Hermes courier and can tell you on the 28th March no pick ups showed for any courier, in fact no addresses for delivery showed either, the HHT's(hand held terminals)failed. Messages have flashed up since Wednesday to collect the unknown(we can't know cos they didn't show) pick ups outstanding. If you've been inconvenienced and are unable to wait in for your pick up again reclaim, Hermes have no choice but to reinburse.
I haven't noticed much input from MSE'ers recommending MyHermes but perhaps I missed it.
They are definitely not in trouble, they have just won a 15-20% share of Amazon delivery contract, starting 4/4/11, on top of a long contract with Next, Sit up TV, Freemans, Grattans, Debenhams, Damart etc. the list goes on.
Please bear in mind though when using Hermes that couriers are paid a pittance some only get 50p per parcel and have no back up when things go wrong(Hermes could have contacted customers to let them know their HHT failed) and not a courier fault.
Added - We often hear 50P - pay peanuts get monkeys, no most couriers are topping up their income, Hermes gain and so do the customers.0 -

our gadget failed that day too but we still collected our pick ups because we know our customers well - it was no trouble to call on them and explain what had happened. all of them were understanding whether they had pick ups or not!0 -

I have tried but nothing is there, have had a response from them saying ' Unfortunately we have now phased PayPal out and Ogone is now our payment handler. This method is just as safe and secure.'
Not sure you can use paypal with ogone, need to find a cheap deal with paypal again. Google here I come.0 -
yes you are a packet if the numbers you have givens units are cms- max packet size is 61cm by 46cm by 46cm. Royal mail is good for light valuable items.
parcelmonkey do a citylink next day bag for £5.82 - you havent given the value so you might need to buy more insurance. I've used PM a few times recently without problem.
Who's the carrier for their next day "special" @ £5.85+VAT? Is it still CityLink?
Have spent up my pre-paid amount with DesptachBay and keep procrastinating over what to do next :undecided In the meantime back to one-offs. I do like DespatchBay but my volumes have slipped enough to make them uncompetitive. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
