I dont think they do, no. If you go to places like parcel2go, payperparcel etc... Ive had DHL come and Ive not been in. Ive then gone to the nearest DHL depot to give the item to DHL myself and everything went through swimmingly

    Hi Waqasahmed

We use collectmyparcel.com once we've booked it online and no one is going to be in for the DHL driver to collect - dropping them a short e-mail and mobile number and they text back the DHL reference number so we can drop it off at the depot.

Not sure how you'll get on with all your insurance computery bits but we always get great speedy service.
  • First time posting on here so apologies if I get any of this wrong.

I'm just starting up a little cake business (in Bolton) and have been asked a few times by people too far away for me to deliver to whether I can 'post' a cake to them. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced courier type service who might do this? I've been on DHL etc and they don't appear to touch 'perishable' stuff that needs to be handled carefully! Had been given Fastway as an option but they're getting really bad press on the wider interweb.

    Any ideas??

the couriers will take them(unless they ask for whats in the box),what they wont do is compensate for loss/damage
given how delicate these items are,is it worth it?

We know a seller who sells cakes via ebay. She sends hers via the royal mail with very little problems. She clingfilms them. Covers in a layer of bubble wrap and in a box. She says they arrive with no problems
  • I have booked a parcel with desktop PC to be delivered from UK to Slovakia. I have choosen service DHL Europlus. I have paid insurance £10 for £500 value of goods to Interparcel. Desktop PC received broken, I sent all documentation to Interparcel claiming a damage. They are gonna to give me back £10 for insurance. If I have called to DHL I have been told Your delivery WAS NOT INSURED in our database. Interparcel is lying to their clients, they are keeping insurance money and not transfering them to real courier.

    Hi

As far as I am aware, the major carriers only offer £50. When you take out additional insurance, this is with the booking agent (in this case Interparcel).

Taken from Interparcels site, this is stated for computers: "The following items are deemed unsuitable for shipment by our services, and are therefore restricted. Any of these items being sent may result in surcharges, delays or confiscation by authorities where appropriate. No transit cover or guarantees whatsoever will apply to these items. THESE ITEMS ARE SENT AT YOUR OWN RISK"

This is why your item will not have been covered.
  • Thanks for the thoughts. Torn between "is it worth it" (agree - they are v. delicate) and wanting to give business best shot with widest potential market. Am tempted to post one to myself and see what state it arrives in!

Out of interest does anyone have personal experience of using Fastway Couriers? The only comments I can find on t'interweb are from disgrunted ex-franchisees.

what sort of cakes are they?
would they survive being tipped upside down/sideways?
you can pack as well as possible but if they are destroyed going upside down then its pointless
  • having used several couriers over the last number of years I have found Interparcel by far the best ever. Good choice of options not cheap but very reasonable and immediate payout of compensation, very reliable delivery even to Europe.
  • I've had a look on ebay and can't find any couriers on there anymore (apart from classified ads) - are there no cheap couriers on there now? - Have about 120 x 2kg parcels to send out so was looking for a cheap courier and thought it would boost my points and quidco booking through ebay but you don't get either for classifieds -

If not, would myhermes be my cheapest option?

    Thanks
