Following advice elsewhere on the board i have some frozen bananas (in their skins) that I thought I'd use ito make a banana loaf this afternoon.
How long to I have to defrost them for or do i use them semi frozen
  • i normally start to mash them as soon as they come out of the frezer, then i nuke them in the microwave as if they go in cold they tend to make the butter harder!

as for a specific time i dont know but i would imagine fairly quick once you start mashing them
  • It's not quite banana loaf I know, but I do recommend this recipe for frozen nanas - it's rather good.

I use basics/value/economy/own brand peanut butter, soft cheese and digestives.

    Enjoy

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have 3 hands of banana's just passed their best, i usually make banana bread but have far too much and wont be able to eat it all before they go off.

I was wondering if i could peel them and freeze them so i wouldnt waste them?

    Cheers
  • Yes, they'll just go really squashy when they thaw. They're fine for baking though.

You can eat them frozen, just like banana ice cream. You can either slice them and eat slices as is or cover in chocolate. Can also cut banana in half, put a stick or scewer type thing in and dip in choc and then chopped nuts. Then eat like choc covered ice cream.
You can also freeze them and then mix the frozen bananas with non frozen fruit and make ice cream/sorbet mixes.
Can also freeze to use later in for baking banana bread, cake, muffins, flapjacks etc.

    Hope this helps.

  • They freeze just fine, no need to peel them. When they thaw they go mushy which is perfect for baking.

  • If I have any that are a bit too ripe for my preference I slice them up and pop them in a freezer bag. I use them straight from the freezer for smoothies (being frozen gives a thicker smoothie), they usually keep OK for a couple of months.
  • I put some bananas in the freezer last night after reading this and I've just tried one - they are very nice! Yay! I want to try the chocolate covered ones. Sorry for being a bit thick - I'm young and stupid! Do I coat them in chocolate before or after freezing?
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.:p
